Default Whatever happened to 'After Hours'?

This came up in the seinen and josei thread: whatever happened to the planned After Hours (I think it was called...?) series of manga? I'm absolutely head over heels with the older manga Tokyopop's brought out, so I'd love it if this plan got off the ground. Was the idea scrapped or something?

...I hope this is the right forum.

I'm not familiar with that one. If it was a planned line of books, it's from before my time at the company. Do you remember which titles were going to be included in it?

I think they talked about this in another thread. This wasn't a planned line of books, but rather a marketing scheme, right?

I think I know what you might be talking about. I just never realized it was ever made public. If it's what I'm thinking of, it only included OEL titles, and the list was made up of books that were equivalent to josei and seinen titles (i.e. MBQ, Blank, The Abandoned, Boys of Summer, etc.). And yes, it was just a marketing idea.

Ellie_i, if you were interested in any of the books, they're all still coming out. In fact, a few of them are out already.

Pretty funny that people outside the company seem to know more than those on the inside.

Ah, thanks very much for answering.

No, you're confused, Tim. That's "Manga After Dark." "Manga After Hours" was something from the early days of the dearly departed Passion Fruits line, which died the sad death of low sales. I'm still hoping it'll get revived one of these days, because there are so many great josei titles out there, and putting them in a line of their own seems to make sense, but it may be a while.

We should just combine them all into one mega-line called "Passionate Fruit-Flavored Manga After Hours That's Dark." I don't know how you'd fit that on the spine, but if I saw it in a bookstore, I'd want to pick it up just to figure out what heck it is.

Well, those were both one-shots, and we only had two other things destined for the line (after a third got pulled because of yet another plagiarism scandal in Japan. ), and we'll be releasing them eventually. We'll keep feeding you josei stuff slowly but surely, just not under that particular imprint.
