I listen to anything my ears can handle. Foreign or not, if it's good, I'll most likely add it to my iPod. Same with if it's just instrumental or if there are lyrics to it or even if its a ccapella. LOL. I'm all about being eclectic with my music. :D |

What I'm saying is it bothers me that fans of anime will listen to music that has "J" in front of it because it has it. Like if Gazette wasn't classified as "J-rock" half the people in America that currently listen to it probibly wouldn't listen to it. They only listen to it because it's from Japan. Why even have that "J" in front of it? I mean, Greman rock isn't called G-rock, Swedish rock isn't called S-rock, so what makes Japan so special that it has to have "J" in front of it? |

My listening habits are incredibly diverse. I listen to music in English Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hindi and French. I just really like language. I speak both English and French and I'm trying to improve on Japanese so I do understand more of it. But I don't think you have to understand the lyrics neccesarily to appreciate any given song. Music is an international language as far as I'm concerned. Infact, there are a lot of artist from other countries that have had big English hits in America and vice versa.

i still listen to my own country's music, and some Japanese. i mostly listen to Rap, or R&B. like D4L, 50 cent, and Snoop dog are some of my favorites. i have been known to listen to some oldies from the 50's to early 70's.

I listen to what I listen to because I think it's good. I've found scores of good Japanese bands, and not nearly as many good American bands. Thus my tastes are skewed to the scene that has been best to me: the Japanese rock/pop scene. I'm not an anime fan, and thus did not discover my favorite bands through any anime. Hope that helps with your little itch. Note that China and Korea have letters in front of their rock and pop to distinguish it from other countries music as well. It's not exclusive to Japan, though it is uncommon outside of Asia. Which, by the way, a lot of Japanese music-related sites have separate pages from foreign music for what they themselves call "Jpop". Yahoo Japan has separate categories for rock (meaning American and other countries rock) and Japanese rock. It's not a term used purely by non-Japanese. |

Songs/artists I like:
Miscellaneous BBoy mixes, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Immortal Technique, Michael Buble, Andre Bocelli (sometimes), No Such Thing by John Mayer, KISS, some X Japan stuff, Smile Again by KCM, only once in a while MC Mong, Flametal (awesome Flamenco/Metal band), Frank Sinatra, Black Eyed Peas, BB King, Chrono Trigger music and remixes, a few select Elton John songs, Queen, KISS (for a while but then I got sick of them), Jay-Z, Papoose, John Legend (awesome man), FF VII: AC songs, Red Hot Chili Peppers (but then they got old, like KISS), Johnny Cash, Pachobel, Alicia Keys, Norah Jones, a few Mariah Carey songs, and perhaps Miyavi, who's on trial. There's a lot. But yes, I agree that a lot of people listen to Japanese bands just because they're Japanese. Last edited by chousenjin; 04-02-2006 at 09:06 PM. |
