Okay, i know that rap and hip hop are not the most popular of music genres but i think that it has at least two fans in each country.
but to my main question, has anyone found any j-rap or j-hip-hop? i can find rappers that happen to be japanese but not rap in japanese. Side question/spam: did ya ever notice that in some j-pop songs there would be some random phrase in english? i've noticed it more in anime theme songs.

Bur-hey. (You'll need to register)
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page...m?bandID=36086 http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page...m?bandID=50863 http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page...m?bandID=83000 Browse through that and make of it what you will. I have a tendency to avoid the more cliche-titled stuff, but some of it is darned good...not that I can understand most of the Japanese used in the songs. |

J-Rap tends to make me laugh in a most "I'm a terrible, TERRIBLE person" kinda way. It's the equivalent of kids thinking being called an Otaku/Jap* is a thing of honor.
*<-That word, for those who don't know, is...a bit of a racist slur. Side note: random english is a popular thing. Similar to how The Clash used spanish in "Should I Stay or Should I Go".

Because for some reason, it amuses me? I never said it was lesser than or shouldn't exist, for notes. It's unusual.

Rip Slyme is my favorite J-hip hop kinda group. I believe they're known in the anime fandom for doing the OP to Gantz called "Super Shooter". They're a lot more "funk" than the mainstream American style of rap, with fun lyrics and songs. Recommended songs are GALAXY, Stepper's Delight, Rakuen Baby and Funkastic. Recommended albums are Time To Go, Masterpiece and Tokyo Classic.
EXILE is another (pretty) enjoyable group, though their music is a lot more R&B influenced. Last edited by Iblis; 03-27-2006 at 09:48 PM. |

I agree with the above posting regarding Rip Slyme.
Another group I would recommend is M-flo, though their songs vary from hip-hop to R&B, etcetera, and often contain English. I've also found myself enjoying the J-rap/hip-hop group Back Drop Bomb, their remixes in particular. |
