In that case, the 1-3 book thing still makes sense though it would be good if they clearly stated that in the FAQ.
I guess it would depend on the flat rate? After all, 24 pages is about the average chapter and these pilots are getting paid for something that may or may not see print, there for no money back. granted, I charge about 45$ per page on my own (for personal commissions only, not commercial), so it would be base on all personal situations and how fast you can do pages? |

Long time lurker, first time poster here. My cartoonist friend just forwarded me a blog link where the TokyoPop Pilot Program contract is broken down and explained. It's an interesting read if you're considering signing on thru the Pilot Program so I thought I'd share it here.

Please read this, if you're considering sending TP some of your material. I think you may be interested in this. I mean, seriously. I respected TP back years ago, you put out some great stuff, but you've seriously gone downhill and landed in a pile of **** since then. |

Oh well, if someone wants to submit or not, it's up to them. No article is going to persuade me otherwise, especially from THAT website.

I don't know what the contract is, but don't most publishers of manga or regular novels kinda have a flat fee for first timers on their first published work? The sales of that first book would determine what kind of contract you get for a second one, no? I would think it is out of the norm for a first time author to get some fantastic deal.

And I dunno about over there, but in thsi country it's usually a flat fee, but then it gets turned into royalties ocne said fee's paid off. At least with books.
