Would like some answers for school plz!

I'm sorry to bother everyone with this, but I really want to and need to know for myself and for my online college.
At the moment I'm taking classes for animation and multimedia, but I have also informed everyone that I want to get into manga and graphic noveling, so I thought, why not ask the artists? So plz if it's not too much trouble, plz answer my questions. THANKIES! chuba

How much on average does the job pay?
How much training is generally required for the job?
What is the potential for the advancement in the career?

I kno I should be lookin these up in different places, but I don't hav any clue other than this, to find the answers. PLZ HELPS ME!

Hired cartoonist arent supposed to tell others how much they are payed for their comics. But someone else other than me might have a little insight.
But I hear it isn't enough unless you become a proffesional comic artist (like artists of Naruto, Bleach). If you do get hired, you'd have to get a part time job.

I don't think there's required training...you just have to draw really well (and write well).

Either you get lucky and get noticed (go to crits at comic conventions, take advantage of contests, do webcomics, submit a story pitch) or you get in through knowing somebody.

I suggest pursuing another job interest and doing comics on the side. Sorry if it bums you, but I'm just being realistic.
Right now, I'm doing a bachelor degree in graphic design. It'll also give me the skills to do comics as well as provide a better job to bring home the bacon. It's not so bad.

In general in the comic industry there's a rate per page based on various factors including quality, name recognition, and the popularity of the comic.

Most pros work on multiple projects at once.

My two cents. Learn to draw real life including backgrounds as well as people. Learn the basics of art as well. Study perspective and anatomy.
And practice you butt off.
Another thing, as popular as manga is, dont get stuck on it. Try other styles too.

How much on average does the job pay?
Rumors around the net say that in the States, manga artists are paid around $72 dollars per completed page. For a Marvel/DC penciler, the starting rate is about $100. Normally these contracts are also accompanied by a yearly on-time delivery bonus, as well as a yearly contract paycheck. Don't forget that you normally get about 10% royalties of the sales.
MATH:
72$ per page, 16 pages a week, 52 weeks per year = salary of about $60,000 a year
(More likely scenario)
168 pages (one volume), one volume a year, $72 per page = salary of about $12,000 a year

These are rough estimates from what I've heard. It's up to the artist to negotiate their own contracts though, so the payments vary greatly.

How much training is generally required for the job?
Training? Um, none. Normally when you submit to a publisher, you'll be submitting pieces of your portfolio which should contain mostly sequential art and the widest possible display of your talent as well as (if you are writing your comic as well) a sample script. Really, the standards are very high, so your ability will have to be at a professional level.

What is the potential for the advancement in the career?
AHAHAHAH!!! ...What? There is none, really. I mean, the more popular you and your work become, the more you can negotiate your contract for, but other than that, none really. Maybe one day you could apply for an editorial position, but I'd doubt it.
