Has anyone ever tried to making an instrument, in or out of school?
I had to make a PVC flute for science olympiad. It doesn't play a full scale and I need it to for States in March.
Is / was anyone NEARLY AS FRUSTRATED AS ME??
....help....I think i cut my tongue on the freshly drilled mouthpeice...

...i thought you did well with that event.

I'm not really musically-oriented, so...unless you count stretching rubber bands and twanging them in the middle of class, I don't make instruments.

And, er, I'm sorry.

When I was in third grade, I made a guitar out of rubber bands, a paper towel roll, and a shoebox...

Here I thought I was alone.

I'm somewhat perplexed as to why your tongue was even touching the mouthpiece of a flute?

I can say as a 9 year flute player that you're crazy for trying to put one together. XD It's one of THE most complicated instruments to try and assemble, and merely taking a real one appart is traumatizing. I remember when I was still in High school one of my band directors had to take the keys off my flute to fix something, and I literally just about had a coronary.

me: "OMG, WTF R U DOING TO MY INSTRUMENT??????? DDDX"
teacher: "......Do you want it fixed? :|"
me: "..............yes. ;o;"
teacher:"Then trust me and stop freaking out."
*takes off another set of keys*
me: "OMFG!!!!!! *runs in circles*"
teacher: *headdesk*

I kid you not, that's exactly what happened. I never over react, but seeing just the keys taken off made me filp out.

uh wow, I've nevermade an instrument although, there is a book at my house about how to build your own guitar, but I've broken my violin quite a bit if that counts for anything.

building your own guitar would take a lot of time, patience and in some cases maybe even lots of skill because you have to make it just right or it won't sound good. I've trie to rewire my Bass before and then my dad took it and thought he knew more. In the end, he messed it up and I had to bring it in. Building instruments is best left to professionals I think..
