Well you should be. The Illuminatus! trilogy is an utter classic. An irreligeous, confusing, complciated, drug-referencing classic that needs to be read multiple times to udnerstand, but a classic non the less. Hail Eris!

No. Not really.

Perhaps I can shed some light on the subject. Robert Anton Wilson wrote about secret societies, coincidences, and exploring different levels of consciousness. The Illuminati is supposedly a secret society dating back to the 1700's or even further back that is rumored to steer the course of human history.

Regarding his books on consciousness,Cosmic Trigger, and Cosmic Trigger :Back to Earth are about Wilson experimenting with exploring various levels of consciousness and the nature of reality, some of these explorations aided by his consumption of hallucinogens like mescaline.(Don't touch that stuff kids).

Finally, his death on 1/11 is interesting because of his writings on coincidences, mainly recurrences of certain prime numbers such as 11 and 23.

The world may not have seen the last of him though. In Cosmic Trigger, he relates the sad story of his daughter Luna who was murdered. In the hopes that one day science may be able to reverse death, he had her cryogenically frozen and had laid plans for him and his wife to be frozen as well.

The illuminati was nor supposedly anything.

The bavarian illuminati was documented fact. The links of the bavarian illuminati to the Hashshashin cannot be discounted, nor can the fact the Hashshashin currently exist in a slightly less violent form. It's also undeniable that they _have_ steered the course of history, at least to an extent. Certainly they've helped to shape it.

Bah! Lost interest indeed.

Actually, I started re-reading the Illuminatus! trilogy again today. I'd forgotten how philosophical it was. Amazing. Not t'mention it makes so much sense!

The more I hear people rave about an author's genuis the more skeptical I get. The book usually turn out to be an over-rated thing that people feel obligated to praise because obivously if you don't like it you were too stupid to 'get it'.
Filled with sex and violence--in and out of time and space--the three books of The Illuminatus are only partly works of the imagination. They tackle all the coverups of our time--from who really shot the Kennedys to why there's a pyramid on a one-dollar bill.

[B]Another Review:[B]

It ties together the Kennedy assassinations, George Washington's supposed pot-farms, UFO's, Atlantis, the Ishmalian sect, and any other group you can come up with using a convoluted numerological system, defying intelligence.
Yep, totally my cup of tea.

YamPuff, have you ever seen me rave avbout something for any reason other than I think it's amazing? Nope.

Anyway, those reviews are a bit useless. I mean, sure it _is_ high-camp with a few gratuitous sex scenes, insults hurled at a few religeons, every conspiracy theory u can think of and the like, but that's what makes it so great. You'll never look at fiction the same way again. It's a must-read if only for the way it's written: flips between 1st-and-third person, between characters, between times whenevr it likes. It's like reading an acid trip. Or I imagine is anyway, never having taken acid.
