I would have to say this is my most favorite band of all time! Not only does the music rock, but it is almost animated! I LOVE CARTOONS!!! I remember when Clint Eastwood first came out. I was amazed by the quality of the animation. I think it's the best animation around! Jamie Hewlett is an amazing cartoonist. I am very influenced by his art work.

Anyway, my fav song of theirs is and always will be Clint Eastwood. I can never get tired of hearing it. Feel good inc is good and all, but I don't think it can compare to CE.

Wow. Imagine you married one of the Gorillaz, like a real one. No one would even know. It would be like
"sooo you have a big house"

Love the Gorillaz. Went through a big phase about them. The one drawback about them is that they may NEVER be able to go on tour.

For beginners there music is kinda boring I think. So what? you might say, me too, normally I would just ignore it. BUT, then they have this virtual band crap thing going, which if you ask me is just dumb. Before Demon Days I thought they were ok, I mean 'Clint Eastwood' was an ok song, tho the rest of that album sucked (there self-titled one). But then Demon Days came along. A combination of the video for the song 'Feel Good inc' being played non-stop on MTV (back when I use to watch it), and there next single 'Dare' being the most retarded song ever to be played anywere ever, I started to not like them. Then that crap they pulled at the 2006 grammys with Madonna broke it. Now I can't stand them.

ok then. I get it now and yeah they did play that video alot (feel good Inc.) Is "dare" the song with the animated girl sing and dancing around with a helmet on her head? if it is I kinda like that song but it would get old real quick and the video was kinda lame. I did like feel good inc video, but as I said before, they did play it alot, so it lost its spark quickly.

Call me not up-to-date with the entertainment scene, but what happened with them and Madonna? I'm not saying it didn't happen, but rather I have no idea WHAT happened. LOL

Hahahaha...they really irk you huh?

The only song of Gorillaz I like "Fell Good Inc." Well the beat is really badass. Even thought I only listen to classic metal/rock.

To be honest I have never seen them in real person only in cartoons, I want to know how they really look.

The horror, the stupid horror D:
*you know the thing that muppets do before they're about to explode and start screaming about something? yeah, does that* Wow. Madonna + Gorillaz = PURE FAILURE. As if the Gorillaz themselves (with an exception to Noodle - she looked so cute when she had to hop up onto the stool :D) weren't creepy enough on stage. Were they puppets, or just on video? The way they moved made me think of the Interpol puppet (http://youtube.com/watch?v=jRt1FOZWUH0).

But a movie? That's just...I don't know, that's kind of weird. Anyhow, I thought their MTV Cribs (http://youtube.com/watch?v=V0sSAafIvPs) episode was actually pretty amusing. :D

Draft Punk animated their music videos too. They were very anime looking. I wonder whatever happened to them...

I only remember Gorillaz's one song that said "I've got sunshine in a bag" but they were alright.

Interesting...I was somehow pretty much unaware of their videos until I just looked them up on YouTube. XD (*doesn't really watch MTV or anything*) I'm not a big fan of rap, and I realized that I've heard some of these songs on the radio and not particularly cared for them in the past, but the videos do look really cool. Some of the songs have really good beats, and combined with the animation it comes off nicely.

Recently, while in London, I went to the Design Museum and apparently had just missed an exhibit on the designer of the Gorillaz characters. Darn. I've always thought the art looked rather interesting. Why London? Are they British? Or is the graphic designer British, maybe?

The guys who came up with Gorillaz are british and 2-D and Murdoc are british. (They are characters in the band)

Although obviously they have several folk playing the different charcters, with one exception. Lovely the way they disguise that at concerts by hiding behind a screen.

I dunno, I don't like 'em much. Most of the songs just seem pretty naff t'me. Interesting that the graphics studio that makes the videos cite Miyazaki as a big inluence, mind...

LadyHavoc
01-19-2007, 01:14 PM
Ok, apparently no one seems to know the truth here. The Gorillaz are no one in real life. The have voice actors, Damon does all the music, Jamie all the visuals (Well him and his studio now).

Aratos
01-19-2007, 01:19 PM
No, no, 2-D is always the same person. There're various different people who do the rest of the stuff. They get credited and everything.

LadyHavoc
01-19-2007, 02:04 PM
Well, they all keep the same voice actors, and Damon does all the main singing, so he's considered as 2D because 2D sings, but they aren't the same person really.

Aratos
01-19-2007, 02:06 PM
Semantics, semantics. And it says on wiki they _don't_ all keep the same voice actors.

LadyHavoc
01-19-2007, 02:11 PM
They have changed? I never noticed. I don't go to their Wiki, not since they released their biography(or is it autobiography? I've always got the two mixed up). I don't want to spoil what I haven't gotten the chance to read yet. And if you want a messageboard where you can get away with most anything, I suggest the Gorillaz Messageboard.

Wow...just to reiterate my past ignorance...I seriously had no idea the band was composed of fictional characters. I always just thought those pictures were caricatures of real-life band members. XD I never really paid attention to them before.

But now, some of the songs have been growing on me a lot. I keep having "Clint Eastwood" stuck in my head, but I don't mind because it's a pretty good song! And I normally don't go for rap...!?

My fave song from the Gorillaz self-titled album is 19-2000(Soulchild remix one, atleast I think it was them) and from Demon Days is Dirty Harry or Kids with Guns. FGI was good, but it gets old to me. And 19-2000 is the only one I heard on my own back when it first came out, I didn't hear Clint Eastwood till later.

sentaku-san
01-20-2007, 11:26 AM
Lots of bands use graphics. I am a big fan of Linkin Park's "Breaking the Habit" video. It looks so cool. But there's a difference between using some animation and presenting yourself as a completely fictional animated band.

I think its such a neat idea, tho. No more worrying about your 'image' or if you gained a few pounds. May help with crazed screaming fans as well.

Theres always the downfall of live concerts when your a completely fictional band. There are no characters to perform. I know they've down the large screens in the past and their more recent performance only had graphics from Jamie while everyone who was apart of their latest album performed, but its never the same as a real live concert of a band.

I actually just got their cd (first one) a couple of weeks ago, and i listened to it, but only the Clint Eastwood song was good, that's the most famous one that i knew about anyways. I'm wondering if it's worth it to pick up their other 2 cds.
