Imports, chips etc.

Ok, what's the story with all these chips, slide cards etc. I hear, if I want to play and imported game on my PAL encoded PS2 I have to insert a chip into my console or something, where do I get these chips/slide cards and are they expensive?

It is illegal.
You want to use it for a good reason, but, another use for it is reading burned CD/DVD.
