An Italian fathers' rights activist says he tried unsuccessfully to self-immolate on live television to call attention to dads unable to see their kids. The ANSA news service reported Saturday that Nicola De Martino, who was recently re-united with his son after a 12-year separation, tried to set himself on fire Thursday night while appearing as a guest on the current affairs show, "Dieci Minute," or "Ten Minutes" on state television station RAI. ANSA said that the show's host, along with the distraught man's 18-year-old son "looked on in horror" as De Martino doused himself with gasoline and then threatened to light a match. Host Maurizio Martinelli and the studio crew frantically managed to wrest the lit match from De Martino's hands. He was then led away from the stage.

This guy's crazy. I say he should have been quicker if he really wanted to get away with it.

He probably wasn't suididal enough. His self-preservation instinct'd kick in.

Its always good to kill yourself after being reunited with your kids. Makes the kids happy, you send out a message, everyone wins, y'know?
On the other hand, maybe he didn't want to kill himself at all; just make a statement.

YamPuff, he's one of those fathers rights nutjobs. They don't know when to stop with their statements.
No, really. They do such great stunts as climbing buckingham palace dressed as batman and robin, invading parliament with paint-bombs and plotting to kidnap their children and take them off to spain.

Still, he may have just pretended to try and commit suicide. He got in the news, got people talking, and etc. with no personal loss to himself. Smart guy.

Smart? I dunno. Fathers For Justice had to shut down becasue certain memebrs where doing that kinda thing and damaging the casue. They were getting a reputation as iresponsible nutters.
I mean, would _you_ want someone like that raising your children?

I wonder why there are no father rights groups here in america, it's for the best that we don't have to deal with them I guess. It takes enough effort to deal with the crazy people that run this country.

There're none in Britain now. Like I say, FFJ shut down because of nutters.

My thoughts exactly. If he really wanted to kill himself he wouldn't have took so damn long to do it. And even if he did set himself on fire he most likely wouldn't have been killed because he's surrounded by people who could put it out and have an ambulance arrive within 5 minutes.
My guess is he was just trying to get his point across. Kind of like those so called "suicidal" people who stand on top of buildings for hours and get police and negotiators involved so they can let everyone know how much their lives suck. If they really wanted to die they'd just jump.

Too bad he didn't actually burn, that would've been more interesting. And then the studio would smell like burning people for a while and all kinds of good things would happen.

LOL!
Funny thing...
This past friday, my friends and I were having a serious discussion about what color human meat would be if it were cooked (white or brown)...

I guess it would depend on the person's skin tone.

I'm pretty sure humans are red meat. At least, some cannibal several years ago was slaughtering humans and selling them as beef. And I think pork.

Well apareI'd imagine it'd be quite odd eating human. Y'know, not that I would. unless forced to in the name of survival.
Handy cookery tips from Aratos #1: aparently the area between the thumb and forefinger is the most tasty part of a human.

I wonder if cannibals cook their human or just eat it raw.

Gives a whole new meaning to the phrase 'give me your hand'.

That it does, that it does. Not to mention 'thumbs up'.

Nice. A conversation on cannibalism.
But still...why? The guy got his son back already right? Makes no sense. If he's that stupid they should've let him set himself on fire...then roast marshmellows over his blackened corpse.

I thought people were the other white meat. Like pork.
