I already own the entire manga run, but I keep having people ask me where they can get it w/out having to pay $30+ for some of the books. Has the liscence from Kodansha or Takeuchi-sensei been dropped by everyone? Or is it just not being printed anymore?
I've heard many rumors on this, and I just want to know fgrom Tokyopop since many of my books are from when you guys took the title over from Mixx. I was just wondering because this might mean they've gone up in value.

I know you can get them online ^^ But the prices are sometimes many many many times what they originally were. For example, when you search for the first installment in the manga series you get this.
"16 used & new available from $31.00"
I was just wondering if the manga was still being published?

I'd rather watch the english dubs than the trashy bootlegs sold on ebay. But then again, i neednt worry, Since I already got the lisenced sets by ADV and geneon :)

The old version of the manga is not being reprinted. We definitely want to do the new version of the manga in right-to-left format with new translations and stuff, but there are licensing issues and it's not going to happen anytime soon. There's also no guarantee that we'll even be the ones who will get it!

Yeah, I would LOVE to see all the new stuff that's been added in by Naoko. But I've heard that they were not interested in releasing it to the US.

They didnt really add any new things to the manga did they? I thought they just reprinted them with new covers to promote PGSM =S Owell, it isnt going to happen, I can gurarantee it, Toei's sealed Sailor Moon for good this time ='( I wonder why though, I mean, it was so successful even after a decade...
BTW, if TP DOES manage to renew the license, will the translations also be altered? 'Bunny' and 'Darien Shields' and the other dub names were getting on my nerves. Now, Bunny is a direct translation of Usagi, but why not just use Usagi? =D

The new version does have some redrawn parts; it should be easy to find a comparison online somewhere.
Anyway if we did end up publishing the new version I sincerely doubt we'd use anything but the original Japanese names.

I'd so buy the whole series if it were relicensed with the new covers and . . . better binding and printing and closer translation. ;_; I've seen that you can still purchase the old versions, but ugh . . . . TOKYOPOP's come such a long way since that title was first put out; I know the quality could be so much better.

Yep, TokyoPop was just drunk when they did the first Sailor Moon series xD Of course, they quit drinking alltogether, so its all kewl :cool: I find it rather strange though how TokyoPop rubs in the '100% Authentic Manga' thing, it isnt really that uncommon anymore :rolleyes:

Ditto. I would buy the entire series in a heartbeat. My original copies (especially SuperS volume#2) have chapters that are literally taped in I have reread them so many times.

Personnaly I'll just buy the whole thing in japanese once I'm over in Japan. ^_^ (They were so expensive at Little Tokyo's Kinokuniya I couldn't get them! ;_; ) I know my french versions by heart anyway. @.@

Naoko had fun revamping a few pages... Nothing big though. But the covers are awesomely cute. And there were stickers too! <3
As to why Toei removed everything and let all the licenses die... Well I had heard they were supposed to re-release everything by their branch in America. But I don't think it's going well... Their branch wasn't really big... But yeah correct me if I'm wrong!
31$ a book?! Oh my gosh, I wonder how much my french versions would sell for! Unfortunatly a lot of them are heavily worn from too much reading/lending to friends... ;_;

Hm, I have no clue about the american version 'cause I've never seen them, but the french versions are very sturdy! They are regular manga size (I'd say like the DN Angel manga by Tokyopop) and the covers are sturdy carton, and they have flips inside the cover (where they wrote the story summaries)... Only pic I could find online: here (http://moonparadise2002sl.free.fr/goodies11.JPG)
It's just when I got the first one I was very young and got addicted and read it at least a hundred times before I could manage to get the second one... And I would keep re-reading my books before I could get the new ones, etc. XD; So the last ones are in great shape, but the first ones are kinda dead... And my #10 is heavily bent because of an evil friend who didn't take care of it like I told her to! >.<;;

Me too! I hate the series (stupid Cartoon Network, you killed it for me!) but I adore the manga. If TPop re-printed it with new binding, unflipped, better covers, and better translations, I would be so happy *hugs Kino*

I miss this manga as well.. It would definately do the company good if the bought the rights to it again, and re translated it, keeping the original names and such. Many old fans would purchase it, as well as many new..
I'm still trying to figure out why they let their rights to it expire.

Sailor Moon is really popular right now. It's crazy how many people know about the series/books now than when they first came out. I've been trying to find the movies but they're really expessive which sucks but hey love to have them. if anyone got any good places to buy them help me out. A remake of the series would be awesome maybe they'll actually include some of the stuff in the manga this time. I love the series but after reading the books you've got to wonder lol

sailor_earth:: Barnes and Noble (http://www.bn.com) still has the SuperS & S movie. ChibiTokyo (http://www.chibitokyo.com) has all of them in stock for $18 each. I have ordered from both companies several times, and have been pleased with each purchase. Be careful what you buy though, some things at ChibiTokyo are bootlegs (but the Sailor Moon DVDs aren't. I bought them here a looong time ago). Hope this helped.

I had to read scanlations of Sailor Moon manga because they're unavaiable. No, I'm not going to pay that much for them! ($60 a book my foot). But I did buy some Sailor Moon S DVDs. And I got Sailor Stars online as well.. stop teh madness! Don't make criminals out of us!
I have only this to say..

Just pointing out that Tokyopop IS Mixx. They didn't take over, they simply changed their name and expanded a lot. ^^

They released them to be the same size as the Japanese versions, which is why that happened. The "normal sized" manga you see now are often enlarged from the Japanese versions sometimes, which mainly come in the 'pocket size.'
I too would really like to see a re-release of this series, and it'd be great if the licensing issues would get worked out... we promise we'd do a good job with it, Naoko!!

Dear Tokyopop and Fellow Anime and Manga Fans:
I'd also like to see you publish both Codename Sailor V and Sailor in English (100% Authentic Manga Format) whenever possible. I find it very frasturating that no one seems to translate all of my favourite Manga and Anime into English while preserving the original Japanese meaning. (For example, I'd also like to see Suzuka Anime to be translated into bilingual DVD)
Many Rival Publishers, like Viz Media and Del Rey Manga, have won popularity from us fans, because they've preserved original Japanese format (Names, Sound Effects, page orders, no edits on cleavages and violence) along with English Translation and Explination in Glossary on the back of each graphic novel of the Manga Titles. Therefore, it's imperative that we must be one step ahead of them, and get the permission from the authors themselves to explain the stories as they intended themselves.
I hope I've spoken from my heart on behalf of all the Anime and Mange Fans to speed up the process of bringing the best titles from Japan. Thanks, bye!;)

You have to understand that when TOKYOPOP first published Sailor Moon in English, manga was not well known or extremely popular in America, so they had to go with what was more practical at the time. As for preserving the original Japanese format, TOKYOPOP was one of the first to begin the practice of doing so. (Why else would we have a stamp saying "Leading the Manga Revolution"?) Unfortunately, we haven't been able to repeat the new process with Sailor Moon, because, as frecklegirl said, there have been licensing issues that have prevented us from doing so.
We are working very hard at trying to bring some of the best titles from Japan, Korea, and even English speaking countries to you. Please be patient and continue supporting TOKYOPOP. We don't want to rush the process too much, otherwise the manga won't be as great as we know they can be.
Also, there's a thread about what series you'd like to see published, so you can make a post there about Codename Sailor V. ^.^ I'm sure there are plenty of other people that feel the same way.
