it's hard to believe that this kind of thing can happen over a video game.

Looks more like manslaughter rthan murder to me.

Not that I'm making excuses for the guy. I'd like to know the full story, though.

Has nothing to do with the game, really, just the idiot father.

Aratos
12-19-2006, 11:17 AM
What you need to consider is, how long'd he been spending playing it? Addiction _can_ happen, and we all know how violent addicts are.

Kaoru
12-19-2006, 01:28 PM
Wow. After he 'thought' she broke it too. Off with his head!

Iblis

Being an addict doesn't give you an excuse, or change the death from "murder" to "manslaughter". Especially since video games are a much milder form of "addiction" in that you're not actually putting any chemicals into your body, only letting yourself become addicted.

Aratos
12-19-2006, 01:48 PM
I'm gonna have to disagree there. As a recovered addict, I can tell you that it's jsut as bad, worse in some ways. I used to be a pretty unpleasant person if I got seperated from my games by someone other than myself. It's pretty bad.

And I say manslaughter because the intent obviously wasn't to kill.

What that man did was murder, not manslaughter. This was not an accident, nor was he under the influence. He knew damn well what he was doing, and for that he should be punished to the full extent of the law.

Aratos
12-19-2006, 01:58 PM
Really? From what I read he didn't _mean_ to kill her. Just to whack her one. Now, that's assault butit's sure as hell not attempted murder.

Neko-san is correct. What he did is defined as Second-Degree Murder. He may have not intended to kill the girl, but he definetly went overboard over a stupid game. Second-Degree Murder encompasses all murders pulled in the heat of the moment. He didn't have to be under the influence of anything else.

I also agree that the idiot should never get out of prison for that. She was a year and a half old. He should have known better than to let a child go near something like that. She didn't know it was breakable (and expensive), and him beating her like that was completely uncalled for.

Oh, what a shame I lack complete and utter empathy for other humans and look on everything in a cold and calculated manner.

that's just sad. the dad could have at least put her on a crib or play with her instead of his video game.

Spellman said in his statement, read by Homicide Detective John Cummings. "I thought it was broken. I popped her in the face. I picked her up and tossed her in a chair."

this guy is the lowest. anyone who can punch a 17 month old baby in the face (hard enough to kill or otherwise) deserves all they get. even if he didnt mean to kill her, this guy needs to be locked up for a long time.

I could see nothing worse for him than to spend the rest of his life in a prison cell. sure they could kill him but that's the easy way out. He should have to spend the rest of his natural life in solitary and be tortured by the fact that he killed his daughter. Justice served.

So the father killed the girl because he thought she broke the console?
That's really scary ... I can't even imagine that!

Nekochii
12-19-2006, 08:41 PM
I'd just make my daughter work off the $600. 2 year olds know how to work right?

Aratos
12-20-2006, 07:46 AM
Yeah. I say a return to the old days when we'd send working-class kiddies up the chimneys or make them hold lanterns in the mines. That'd teach 'em.

Kinda hard to laugh at a situation like this. Ah what the hell, hahahahaha. http://www.cybergifs.com/faces/laugh.gif

Now I feel guilty. :(

Guilty about what? Life sucks. bad things happen. If we keep taking things seriously we'll just wind up morbid and angry. Particularly if we go entirely on what the press says without botrhinging to look at the important stuff. Details, say.

I guess most people feel that way because they've been brought up to believe that it's inappropriate and offensive to laugh at situations like this. Sometimes we want to laugh at stuff like cancer or AIDS or whatever, and sometimes we do, but there's always people out there telling you that it's wrong and they always make you feel like sh*t for it. :(

This has realy nothing to with the Xbox. The guy had angrey issuses. I mean he could of freaked out over his $600 guitar or something else expencive that the 17month baby could have broken. He deserves to be locked up or punished for being stupid and a a**hole.

Nekochii

Yes, you want to keep them alive so they can feel as much pain as possible.

Aratos

all in the name of sado-masochistic activity, of course.

Wow, I didn't think that Tom Clancy's Games were that serious LOL... Anyhoot, this guy is definitely a game freak, and needs to be in jail , yet mental help. sick bastard.

Aratos
12-25-2006, 11:40 AM
judge not, lest thee be judged.

Iblis
12-25-2006, 12:39 PM
Judging a guy who kills his daughter isn't the same as seeing someone on the street and judging them by what you see. ;) I think that verse is a little overused in cases like this.

Aratos
12-25-2006, 01:04 PM
Ok then. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. How's that?

SweetNymph
12-25-2006, 01:13 PM
This guy had a history of violence. It wasn't the games that did it, it was him.

And Aratos, that one is overused as well. This guy isn't asking for forgiveness for adultery. He's asking to get away with murdering a baby. You're willing to live and let live with this guy, but heaven forbid someone ignores news happening in the UK, but you can tolerate that since all Americans are morons anyway, right?

Physician, heal thyself.

Aratos
12-25-2006, 02:51 PM
I'm not saying he should get away with it. I'm saying he shouldn't be demonised. Even Hindley repented you know.

what an idiot, and this is why God made it so guys can't have children. If I had any kids I'd be afriad to leave them with anyone, hell I'm even afraid for my boyfriend's sisters.
this is why I'm ashamed to live in america

Aratos

RamaNoodle21
02-19-2007, 06:44 AM
what I'm saying is that alot of guys are stupid and his is what happens, this may sound really old but guys aren't good at taking care of kids, like when I was 5, my dad didn't know he had to help me put my shes on so he got mad, and then he can't figure out that I'm not hungry at 5 because I ate ramen at 4, and my brothers, well they almost dropped me. so that kinda says it all right there.

Aratos
02-19-2007, 06:55 AM
pfft. That's stereotyping based on a very small sample. And it's totally wrong, too.

RamaNoodle21
02-19-2007, 07:05 AM
the guy beat her to death! I think that says something ok? adn those examples I gave weren't just one time things stuff like that has been happening since I was born and yeah.

Aratos
02-19-2007, 07:47 AM
Even so. Small sample. Very small sample. You can't generalise based on that.

I'm kinda late reading this but wow... what an ass. People like that shouldn't even be allowed to have children, wtf "he snapped"? At an xbox 360... the crappiest system of them all at that. But yeah, take him to some asylum instead of prison yo.

PururinEleven
02-19-2007, 04:09 PM
iLLusion, maybe you should mosey on over to the thread about the mother who put her kid in the microwave. I know a few guys (who are and aren't fathers) who I'd trust with kids more than I'd trust the mothers with the kids. And vice versa. It's a two-way street.

RamaNoodle21
02-19-2007, 04:22 PM
I did go to that thread, I wanted to read the article but the site that it's from took it down, so I can't read it anymore. and I know that they're crazy peopla that do that regardless of gender, like this one chick killed her 4 kids and said someone came in and killed them and tried to kill her.

03-10-2007, 12:52 PM
This isn't an attempt to back the dude up for what he did because itw as wrong and he should be locked up but...
Don't you ever feel so angry about something that you think you could just kill someone? Not literally obviously but like... I can't really explain this and I don't really know what I'm getting at. But sometimes stupid things happen and I know that people can just snap.
Still it was very wrong, he shouldn't have a had kids if he couldn't handle something so small.
