PUNTA GORDA, Fla. - The mother of two boys whose fight with a substitute school bus driver was captured on videotape has questioned why the boys are charged with a felony while the driver faces a less serious charge.

Mark Ernest Dickinson, 15, and his stepbrother, Corey Gene Hendershot, 13, were arrested last week and charged with assault on a school official, a felony punishable by up to five years in a juvenile justice facility, said Russell Kirshy, the family's attorney.

According to Charlotte County sheriff's reports, the fight happened Tuesday when Taylor tried to put a seat belt on Hendershot, who refused to wear it. He then told Hendershot to sit up front, but the boy refused.

When Taylor walked to the back of the bus, Dickinson got in his way and cursed at him. Taylor then slapped Dickinson and grabbed his throat, the video shows. Dickinson is seen pushing and punching the 66-year-old bus driver.

Personally, I think all three of them were idiots.

It's just not the same as a bunch of kids sticking a postbox in front of a bus to get revenge...

Actualyl, i was hoping this'd be a crazy bus driver in teh manner of Still game. What a dissapointment.

More seriously: we're not getting the full story here, methinks. There are probably circumstances explaining why the driver gets a lighter sentence, hmm?

Yes, yes, lock them up...that'll make them better upstanding members of society of course...

Oh yes that definetly sounds like Florida. But what circumstance would justify the man slapping and grabbing the kids the throat to earn him a lighter sentence? And I agree they are idiots. The only reason I see he would get a lighter sentence is because we are in desperate need of bus drivers.

hmm. His age?

On top oif that,. I find it hard to believe he's had absolutely no trouble whatsoever before this one incident, hmm?

Maybe he's cute. Or maybe the kids deserved what they got. ;) Little munsters.

Maybe the driver got a lighter sentance because it was the kids who started it in the first place. Still, the bus driver shouldn't of reacted that way. If you can't handle some punk kid cussing you off every now and then, then you shouldn't be a bus driver.

Judging by all the kids that were there... it seemed that they were already in "juvie".

We should blame the schools for all of this. Or T.V. But I like T.V. ;_;

While I don't agree with the beating, I do blame the parents for a lot of things. Like some of our county's ridiculous rules. All because a parent reacted in some way.
Here's one thing that happened, though a bit off topic. A class was going to watch an R rated film on a field trip. Every student brought home a paper for a parent to sign that stated it was alright with them for their student to watch an R rated film. Later on, a student described parts of the movie to their parent, the parent was angry they watched something like that, and sued the school. You know, the same parent that signed the paper that said their child could watch the film. So the teacher went six months without pay.

Now back on topic. The kid started it verbally, not physically. He crossed a line there. And I never said the kids shouldn't have been punished, they deserve whatever they get. Nekochii is right though, with the kids these days bus drivers have to be the type of people that let verbal abuse bounce off them. Not saying they shouldn't discipline those kids for cussing them out, but I'm saying they should just not react to them at that moment. Just write them up and send it to the school where they'll recieve their punishment.

Oh noes, I forgot about them! Yes, blame them too! >.< Mostly the cause of every kids behavior. They need discipline!

It took me forever to watch that video...stupid dial up. Anywho, I think the bus driver was caught off guard by the comment and reacted the best way he could think of at that moment. I doubt he came on the bus that morning thinking the first bastard child that raised his or her voice to him was going to feel his wrath or maybe he did.

oh and I think that was a guy who was sceaming "get off him." The one in the blue outfit. I guess his testicles haven't dropped yet. :D

Even though it wasn't right for the bus driver to grab the kid like that, part of me feels he deserved it. I love how he stands up like he's a big man and calls the driver a mother f*cker, then when the driver grabs him he starts screaming like a little girl. Some man he is. :p

That's really stupid. Do you know what movie it was that got the parent so upset?

If recent, then it could be Borat.

I've seen the previews for Borat. What do people find so offensive about it? It looks alright to me, (though I haven't seen the entire movie).

People say racist stuff without realizing it and there's also male nude wrestling with a big fat man.

That and the whoole thing's a set-up designed to show the US in as bad a light as possible whilst being "humerous". Which it's not. And Cohen's being sued for it, quite rightly.

I mean, at least Ali G was vaguely funny, in a not-funny kind of way.

I didn't know the person who played borat also played Ali G. I never really bothered to watch series, but I saw comercials on HBO.

da, he's actually a white jew from london. Which aparently is the reason he gets away with anti-semitic remarks.

Box office

American audiences embraced the film, which played to sold-out crowds in many of its U.S. showings on its opening night. This led to a largely unexpected first-day gross of $9,050,000[34], despite having been shown on only 837 screens, wildly surpassing its competition which was shown on over 3,500 screens.

Over the opening weekend of the film, it unexpectedly rose to No. 1 on the weekend with a total of $26.4 million[35], beating its competitors, Flushed Away and The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause. The film's opening weekend's theatre average was an estimated $31,511, topping Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith yet behind Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and Spider-Man [36]. It retained the top spot in its second weekend after expanding to 2,566 theatres, extending its box office total to $67.8 million.[37] The next weekend, it fell to third place in it's third week, behind Happy Feet and Casino Royale, and grossed an estimated $14.5 million. [38] As of November 19th, The film has grossed over $80 million dollars.

Thus confirming that the average American has a shitty sense of humour. I mean, the whole point of the film is to make out Americans as a bunch of racist extremists...

Not sure what movie, but it was a Dual Enrollment class, meaning it was actually a College class taken at the high school counting as both a college and high school credit.

Judging by the video it seems that the kids may have been provoking the bus driving, and after trying to settle it properly he became enraged and took it too far. But this observation by me is just based on viewing the clip once anything could have happened. :|
