I have read a lot of manga, and have watched many an anime as well, from outlaw star to fruits basket. Now the question is whom do I cosplay as for the upcoming convention? I am 5'7, 170lbs, tan skin, black soon to be shoulder length hair. Any suggestions whether they are male or female characters does not matter.

Gee, I dunno. Maybe a character you personally like and feel you can pull off cosplaying? In other words, someone you think of yourself. Are you so lacking in imagination that you have to ask a messageboard who you should cosplay?

2, My acting talents... perfect (at least that is what I have heard)
3, I would enjoy going as almost anyone, do not know if that is uncommon but oh well.

Just go as anyone... you clearly said you would enjoy it either way, so pic a character that looks cool, find a decent costume that can fit you, and go. And if you can't, since you can enjoy going as anyone, there's bound to be some costume out there for you.

I don't think weight is such a big deal. I've lost count of how many overweight naruto cosplay chick pics I've seen floating around the interent and I seriously doubt they care that they didn't look like naruto at all. People cosplay as characters they don't look like at all all the time. Just cosplay as a character you enjoy from that series.

Well, if your slightly tanned and like outlaw star I suggest you do Gene Starwind. But, if you don't have the muscle for it I suggest Melfina or Aisha.

I think weight in cosplay is a very big deal. Run around in your house in terrible cosplay, not in public.

You're forgetting: star trek and star wars fans were doing it long before anime fans. And they're _all_ horribly overweight. Looking nauseating in a lycra suit's mandatory.
