wow nice avvy.
Anyways! I'd suggest if you're into mystery and suspence, or something to get your heart beating quickly, then Death Note. Death Note AND Monster. Those two are phenominal.
Then if you're into romantic comedy then Ai Yori Aoshi, and Love Hina.
If you're those Yaoi fangirls then Loveless.
Um. I could say more T_T but I got a headache.

Scanslated:
Inu Neko Jump - great manga, hard to pin down to a genre. Might say it was a romantic comedy.
The Hating Girl - Slice of life comedy that turns into a romantic comedy. THE most bizzare plot device I've ever seen. Great manga.
Peridot - Hiyoko Brand mangaka brings you a ecchi fighting school manga.
Kashimashi ~Girl Meets Girl~ - Bishonen boy gets turned into a Bishojou girl by an alien. Yuuri ensues. YES!
Licensed:
I''s - Romantic comedy + panty shots; Drawn and written by the greatest mangaka on earth, Masakazu Katsura!
Love Roma - Romantic comedy, very down to earth and funny, no ecchi, unique look on relationships
Dragon Head - Great thriller suspense / apocalyptic
School Rumble - Romantic comedy with a bit of a twist
Yotsuba&! - Slice of life by Azumanga Daioh mangaka
Midori's Days (Midori no Hibi) - Romantic comedy with one of the most bizzare plot devices outside of The Hating Girl.
Gacha Gacha - Romantic comedy + panty shots
Pastel - Romantic comedy + panty shots
Mahou Sensei Negima - Romantic harem comedy + panty shots. Ken Akamatsu is the master of loli pantsu

Are we aloud to post non-Tokyopop books? I'll put these into categories in case they want to delete some.
Shonen Jump (&VIZ):
Vagabond(awesome visuals. Not sure if cancelled)
Deathnote(one of my absolute favorite, not sure if it is)
Naruto
Rurouni Kenshin
Tokyopop:
Initial D
Rebirth
liked Love Hina, but doesn't have much reread value in my opinion (too much accidents to expose panties, etc.)
Ragnarok(Gaaaah cancelled)
Comics One:
Maniac Road
Kazan
Dark Edge
Del Rey:
Love Roma (also one of my absolute favorites, no "accidental" panty exposure)
Those are my favorites.

I love anything by CLAMP, especially Clover (If you can get your hands on a copy, it's hard to find nowadays), Shirahime-Syo, Cardcaptor Sakura and Tsubasa: reservoir Chronicle.
Immortal Rain's also great. I'm a very big fan of it right now. It's not very well-known, but it's awesome :D

You're right Clover is hard to find. I tried looking at my local comic store and only found one volume and it was the 4th volume!

My personal favorite manga of all time is the Kindaichi Case Files, nobody seems to give this series the love it so richly deserves. Give it a try, if you like mysteries you'll really love this one.

Clover's not being published anymore so any store that has it is really just selling off an old copy. Amazon still had stock of one of the volumes a couple months ago, but I doubt they still do now. I ran out and bought my last two volumes of Clover when I realized that it was out of print. I still had to get one off the internet though. :D

Yes! Kindaichi is a good series to read. I've got 12 volumes of it. I'd also recommend:
Monster
Vagabond
Ghost Hunt
Azumanga Daioh
Wallflower
Excel Saga
Yotsuba
Saiyuki
WhistleBlower

I will say from the start I have never read any Manga. I love Anime and wanted to check it out in written form. Problem is figuring where to start, so I have been surfing around, and picked three to start with:
Model Vol.1
Lee So-Young
Pet Shop Horrors Vol. 1
Matsuri Akino
Demon Diary Vol. 1
Jee-Hyung Lee
Any thoughts on these? I am a huge horror fan so figure the horror genre would be a great place to start.
Any other good horror series I should look into?

Well...Pet Shop of Horrors is not exactly a Horror manga. I haven't read Demon Diary, but I'm not sure if it could be classified as that either. And Model is slightly more horror but it's more angsty Vampire romance.
If you like horror, you should read Dragon Head...Demon Ororon...um...there are lots more, but I'm not really into horror myself...

Well...Hellsing isn't really horror but it has vampires and things like that.

If you like horror, you should check out Junji Ito's 'Uzumaki.' Very unique and very $%%(&$ed up.

Pet Shop of Horrors is very good. I'm not sure what it would be called exactly...It's not scary, per se, but there is blood and death. It's kind of episodic/twilight-zonish, showing a series of individuals bring about their downfall through the human weaknesses that they harbor. There is also some comic relief in the form of the stubborn police detective.
Demon Diary...let's see, it's been awhile since I've read that. What I remember the most is the adorableness of the main character. And the great talent the artist has for drawing folds in clothing. ^^; I wish I could remember the plot better.
I recommend The Demon Ororan, like someone else mentioned. It starts out quirky, but becomes very bloody, twisted, and heart-wrenching. I liked the art, too.

I'm not a huge fan of Model, but then again I only stayed with it two volumes, it might improve later on, or suit your tastes better than it did mine.
Petshop of Horrors is one of my favorite manga series. I wouldn't really classify it as horror though. There are certainly some really creepy things in it, but the underlying mood is more mysterious then scary.
Demon Diary is really a fun read, but its definitely not horror. It's more along the lines of a cute shounen-ai series then anything.
I agree with Kakashi about checking out Hellsing. If you like blood and guts, there's plenty in there. Also, I know Dark Horse has a bunch of new horror titles, there's a little news update with a list of them here: http://animenewsnetwork.com/article.php?id=7567
If I think of any others, I'll edit this. Hope that helps.

I enjoyed the two or three issues of Petshop of Horrors I have so far. It's not entirely so much 'horror' as it is 'horrible' - er, in the tragic sense. If you can stand the somewhat graphic ends to several of the stories, it'll make you think. And thinking is always good. And the art is pretty.
I only have the first two issues of Model. Like everyone's said, not reeeaally 'horror'. It just has vampires. Which is not quite the same thing. The artwork is gorgeous. I sort of got bored of the story. Not so much that I don't want to continue it eventually, just that there are other series I'd rather try/continue instead. (Like Pet Shop!)
Haven't picked up Demon Diary, so I can't give you any sort of feedback on that. >_>
I don't really have any recommendations for you, I'm afraid. I lean towards either fantasy or high school dramas most of the time. >_>

Thank you all for your input. I had those three classified under "horror" b/c that is how a site I was at had them under....lol
Thanks again, it is appreciated :)

Monster is another horror type book. Has to do with a serial killer and stuff. I HIGHLY recommend it. I just picked up Vol. 3 (amazingly) so that's a great manga to start with. However, there's a total of 18 vol's, so if you're willing to spend that much money... then I definitely recommend this.

model isnt what you would call a real manga, because it is right-to-left.
Deppending on what you like reading...if you like fantasy you should check out DN Angel and if you want something that is closer to horror, go with KamiKaze, it has a lot of pages and is still only $9.99 ...
also, one of the funniest books i have read so far is Kanpai! volume 1

to only add to the list, anyone who denies how interesting and fantastic BATTLE ROYALE is, is just ignoriang the immediate fact that this series is so dark and twisted and well presented, its excels beyond the average manga.
its unique. its mature, and not riddled with obvious anime/manga cliches. 15 volumes, the series just ended, and its amazing.
check out these as well, for everyone who hasnt....
monster
king of hell (best korean manga i know of)
and DRAGON HEAD> its quite amazing, and definitely one of the most exciting series tokyopop is publishing right now.

Angel Sanctuary
Death Note
Gravitation
Rurouni Kenshin
Fullmetal Alchemist
X-Kai
Shizu-san

Need I say it? Death Note. :D Oh, and I've just recently discovered Monster and I love it, so I'd have to recommend that too, if you're into the horror/thriller genre.
Romance? Ai Yori Aoshi. Or, something slightly more serious, Paradise Kiss, NANA, or Hot Gimmick.
Mindless fun? BLEACH
These, of course, are just very, very few of many.

OK, I know some people might laugh at me for suggesting this. But Kill Me Kiss Me vol 1 will always be one of my favorite mangas. It's funny, it's romantic, and it even has some fighting too. I just love it. You kind of have to read it to understand what I'm saying.

Try Mermaid Saga. It's a Rumiko Takahashi work but it's very dark and twisted. Not like her usual stuff at all.
I agree about Monster and Dragon Head and Hellsing. Hellsing is one of my personal favorites.
Also, check out The Ring series. Now that's some twisted stuff. And don't forget Ju-On: Video Side. I've never seen deaths like that in manga before. Absolutely hideous.

If you're into the romantic comedy, Fruits Basket is probably the most popular.
Anything by Clamp is always good, they have so many different styles.
I would try-out Cardcaptor Sakura then Cardcaptor Sakura : Master of the Clow. Chobits is worthy to check out and so are their new series, xxxholic and Tsubasa. Rayearth is a must have.
Shojo Manga like Ultra Maniac, Absolute Boyfriend, Meru Peru, Skip-Beat!, and Baby and Me are really good. So is Full Moon wo Sagashite and Nana (one of the most popular shojo mangas in Japan right now).
Alichino is a great dark fantasy. I found it to be one of my faves. Plus, there are only 3 volumes so far, so you can read them slowly before the next 4 come out!
Yotsuba is a great comedy, tho it for all ages, it's still really good, who says good entertainment has to be rated Older Teen?
Hikaru no Go, well i have say, cause it's my fave shonen manga series.
For a real challange for collecting manga, try to find a new copy of the Sailor Moon manga, and If you want to see the presequel, Codename wa Sailor V, it's really hard to find, i couldn't find it anywhere, but it looks really good.
