I don't know if a thread like this existed before or not, didn't bother to look this time ! Anyway, do you "play" the part, or basically become the character when cosplaying?

I haven't done any cosplay yet, but I plan to play the part of the character!

Yes. I've cosplayed and I do like to play the part of the character. It makes it so much more fun! :D

I hate every single person I see doing that ****. It's even worse when the person's physical characteristics are on the opposite end of the scale from the character they're "playing".

No I just cosplay. The closest I've ever done to "being" the character is "beating" up a friend of mine for a picture.
Becoming the character seems... kind of cheesy to me.

Well, it wouldn't be bad if the person knew the attitude of the character well enough to portray it, but even if they were the best actor/actress around, it would be awful if they did it to the point of annoyance.

I, personally, would be embarrassed as hell to do something like that. (unless no one's looking~~ =O *gasp*) I'd rather prance around and say "Look at me, I'm _______!" (not really "prancing" per say, of course.)

I've never cosplayed before, but I'd love to try.

I've only cosplayed once as Fuu from Samurai Champloo, but I didn't have a group or anything.

Kinda hard to play Fuu without someone to yell at and people to kidnap you.

I don't parade around to draw attention to myself XD But I mean when you take pictures. I think it's fun, but that's just me. u_u

Well, I've never cosplayed before, but I'm going to a convention in May, and I'll be cosplaying L from Death Note. Anyone who knows L should know that I can just dress like him. I have to play the part! Sit funny, thumb in my mouth, look sleepy.

If I were to cosplay as L for my school's Halloween event my teachers would think I was just being a bad student. Oh and the desks prevent me from sitting like L. *sigh*

Aww. That reminds me of another L cosplayer I saw at MangaNEXT. She was so good and adorable. She really acted the part during the Human Cosplay Chess. I like it when cosplayers act that part. I look at it as if it was a play where everyone's participating and it's fun because everyone has a common interest. ^^

I've never cosplayed before, but I'm going to be going to next summer in Orlando. I'm excited about it ^-^ I don't think that I'd actually 'play the character' though.

I've never cosplayed, but I wouldn't play the part. Too embarassing. Unless I was dressed in a really great costume, looked the part and the character wasn't too over-the-top.

I've only cosplayed for halloween since I haven't been to an anime convention before. It's hard to cosplay when no one knows who you are so I don't really 'play' the part. But if my friends know who I am, I say something like that character but this year, my character is kind of...mellow, I guess you could say. So I didn't need to act angry or anything when I saw my friends.

Warning to anyone planning to cosplay as L: stay the hell away from me. Guy or girl, I don't care. I see you, I scream, then I molest. :D

*agrees* At school when I went as Haruhi Suzumiya, I should've acted angry at everything and not interested in anything schoolish at school if I wanted to play the part. But... That would offend people that had no clue what the character acts like, and I'd likely lose a lot of friends. No one at my school knows what The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is, so I wasn't going to risk it. Actually, she acts the exact opposite of how I usually act. I'm usually really quiet and reserved... I'll probably go as Yuki Nagato instead for AX 2007... I can pull that off a lot easier than Haruhi...

I love L. Glomping material right there. The way he "sits" makes me happy. I'm not the only one who can't stand having their legs hanging down from a chair for too long. I sat Indian-style in our math class' chairs all the time, and another kid fell out of his chair trying to copy how I sat for kicks.

One day at school i went as Axel from kingom hearts, i was dared *shifty look*. And during science class we got on the subject of rocks. And the second i heard that word. I fell to my knees and yelled "Roxas"!!! and all my friends came around me and said it was going to be ok lol .:D :D :D :D

I've never even cosplayed but I don't like when people 'play' the parts. No offense to anyone who does. But I used to 'play' parts to things when I was a little girl old enough to play 'house'. I think it's cool up to a certain age - like um...12 oldest.

Yeah I agree, I dont "play the part" to be cool. I do it because i want to be different and by all means if it have to dress as axel and yell roxas at school, i will do it. Lol, oh and to answere and questions about this, no i am not on any "special medacation". :)

Are you serious!!??
Who wants to see a dull character. Dont tell em you woudnt be happy seing a hot cloud and the guy is a total dork. He should at least play it cool or something. I dont think they should play it all the way, but at least to an extent to make it cool.
BTW, I do play the part. Its nice to see the bishies go crazy over the signature move or the catchy phrase, It makes them happy.
