In my case, I'm fixated on plain chocolate and the strawberry with bits, howver I'm also partial to plain strawberry and green tea

Custard! My local asian grocery store used to sell them but didn't stock again - probably because of unpopularity. They don't even have vanilla anymore (Noo! Vanilla!), they have something called "cream" or something.

A bad experience with green tea ice cream (it had freezer burn) caused me to reject any green tea experience thereafter. I have more of a sweet tooth anyways.

Pocky - and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, people... I've only had it a few times - is a dessert/snack/treat popular in Japan and with otaku. ;) It's a very thin pretzel stick covered with some sort of candy coating.

You can get Pocky at Wal*Mart now!:D It comes in smaller packs then at the Japanese stores. But I guess that's good if you don't know if you like it. It's basically like a long straw shaped cookie dipped in chocolate or strawberry. It's GREAT!!!!:D

Warning to all Pocky noobs: this stuff is surprisingly addictive.:p

Of course, one can't truly call himself versed in Japanese pop culture unless he's tried one of these. It's essentially a stick of wheat cracker (think graham) dipped 7/8 of its length in chocolate (or some other tasty substance), leaving just enough of a nub at the end to hold between one's fingertips. They come in packets of a dozen or so. And I've never seen a packet last longer than 15 minutes.

While chocolate is the perrenial (sp?) favorite, I'm partial to the almond moouse flavor, easily recognized by its enrobing in white and milk chocolates with shards of of almond lodged all about the enrobed area. Mmm... Tastes good just thinking about it.

Pocky is not to be confused with Yam Yam, a similar product which involves cracker sticks that the user himself dips into a provided cup of tasty substance. Pocky eschews the messiness of this would-be alternative - as well as any arguements that might be had between sharers over who hogged the dip.

Pocky is best enjoyed straight from the package, over a bottle of your favorite carbonated beverage, while watching bootleg anime with friends and strangers. Of course, sharing isn't just encouraged - it's required.;)

I didn't read the whole thread so I don't know if anyone already answered this, but pocky are biscuit sticks covered in different flavored creams (the cream has about the same texture as chocolate) and they come in little boxes with about 20 pocky each.

Pocky is hard to find where I live, which I don't mind cause I'm not the biggest fan of it. The first time I tried Pocky was when my dad brought it home from his business trip...not from Japan, but from Hong Kong. I guess it's pretty popular over there too.

Wal*Mart sell pocky now. I've bought some there before, but I usually get it at the Japanese grocery stores that we go to. My dad's from Japan so we go alot.

Of course they don't only sell it in Japan, that would be horrible if they did that. Ruin some of the business too. Go to a Asian grocery store or Chinatown.

Well, I don't know about your area but there are asain grocery stores just around where I live. Umm...Look in the yellow pages! ...Or something. Maybe you can find one close to you. Any china town will have it, just look in the grocery stores.

Worst pocky ever: Green tea (ew!), chocolate mousse (although, it was purple and one of the ingredients was yam), and white chocolate (contains cheese powder and tastes absolutely nothing like chocolate).

I've also had black sesame, soy, chocolate, giant chocolate (there is a difference), strawberry with chunks, strawberry without chunks (not as good as with chunks, unfortunately), two kinds with almonds (still not sure what the difference was, but there was supposed to be one), and others that I'm forgetting...
