I just felt like making this thread, I originally had 10 rankings in mind but I'll stick to 5. Easier, and more broad votes. Anyway, I made up my own names, but dont feel offended? :) Choose the one most like you, doesnt need to be 100%

Level 0 or -1 - Anti-Otaku - You dont care about anime, or you hate anime. Anime is annoying, stupid, worthless junk. Manga is cheap trash and exaggerated with nothing but over-reacting whiny bitches and big breasted sluts. The guys look and sound like girls half the time which pisses you off and makes you wanna kill someone, and the girls are just plain annoying. The storylines are stupid and dont make sense.

Level 1 - Anime Watcher/Manga Reader ->
You occasionally watch Anime on TV, that's about it. You might decide to download on rare occasions. You don't mind censorship or americanization a whole lot, and only watch it for a past-time really. Same with manga, you read it sometimes. You dont have much of a collection for either, nor many posters or merchandise. Anime and Manga are past-times.

Level 2 - n00b Anime/Manga fan -> Your not quite familiar with many anime past TV, but you are watching more and more fansubs and getting interested more towards the entire genre rather than just having it as a past-time. You're building your collection. You have some posters and merchandise.

Level 3 - Anime/Manga Fan -> You love anime and watch it occasionally. Not only on TV, but also on the computer if you missed an episode or want to try a series. You have quite a few posters and merchandise, and decent collection. manga is great, and you just love all of your series. You may or may not like Jpop/Jrock still. You dont mind dubs as long as they are decent. You don't always cosplay, but may try it someday or have already tried it, and think people who cosplay look neat. You go to Anime Cons when you can.

Level 4 - Otaku -> You love anime and manga ALOT. You watch it on TV and on the computer alot. Most of your day is taken up by anime or manga, or if not a lot of it. you still do normal activities though, and you're sane for the most part. Your room is filled with anime and manga merchandise, and your collection is huge. You spend way too much money on anime and manga goods, and love JPop/Jrock and such. Japanese culture is also somewhat growing on you. You love to cosplay, and most of the time you do.

Level 5 - Super Otaku Nerd - Anime and Manga is your life. You DESPISE dubs, and bitch about them no matter how good they are. You try to act like a purist who understands japanese, whereas you are probably more dependant on subs than a lot of other people. You're a social failure and have f*cked up your eyes, ears, and who knows what else watching/reading/listening to anime/manga all day. You're the emo-ist person you know, and you sleep with your anime DVDs.

I wont make a poll just yet because there are a lot of 'inbetweens'. Just state which number is most like you, and elaborate. Im pretty much a 3, maybe a 3.5 haha Id suspect there arent any 0's or 5's here

Level 2.5, I only became a fan of it in the last 12 months, so I don't have a LOT of stuff yet. Only recently have I gotten permission to buy manga, so I have a little over 20 now. Though, give 1 more year, I may post back here quite differently :p! I definitely want to go to a con and cosplay, haven't yet though :(!

I've been a Anime and Manga fan since 1990 I'm probably a 2 for anime these days, i have 100+ dvds as well as some VHS tapes, (was once 3-3.5 but my interest has waned over time), and a 2.5 - 3 for manga (with 1000+ manga).
I'm not into Conventions (never been to one, nor have any interest in going), or cosplay, j-pop etc.
I also don't download Anime or Manga considering it Morally wrong (its theft pure and simple).
I purchase 1-2 anime dvds, and 10-25 manga a month, as well as a trip to Japan every second to third year, I spend about 1/6 of my salary on anime & manga.

Somehwere between 1 and 5. None of them's an exact description. I mean, I do tend to pretty much hate dubs almost without exception, but then again I never did see the the point in cosplay and I have no merchandise at all. Certainly spend a lot of my time watching anime or whatever, but that's more because there's nowt else worth watching, and I'm sure I _would_ go to convensions, but there aint nay worht going to in the vicinity...

Aha, i'll go for "I don't fit into your stupid numbers, I'm an individualist, black = white, ha ha ha!"

I guess I'm sitting at 2.5ish. I don't watch any anime on tv since I don't have cable. I buy animes only when the entire series is out on DVD and then watch the whole thing within two weeks. My purchases are based on recommendations from friends or if I keep on noticing the case at stores I'll look into it. I don't download animes off the net. I like having my DVD collection on the shelf grow.

m one of the insane fangirl types of otaku. My friends and i kinda went crazy at the pool this one time and ending up marrying anime characters. It was soo fun wheee, but also very crazy.

Lol. xD Number 5 is funny. I'm not exactly sure what I am. I'm a bit of each (except 0). While, I don't watch anime ALL the time and probably only 1-5 series a year (learning more towards 1-3 series a year), I obsess over a specific series for months at a time. XD (Although CCS is my utmost favorite obsession ;3).

I attend conventions when I can, but I did fly across the country to Anime Expo to see CLAMP *_* so that's a bit extreme. Did I also mention I love Cosplay? XD

Hmm...what else? I think I'll go with number 5 but I don't bash dubs (except Cardcaptors -shudders- and even then, I wouldn't call it bashing...just expressing my displeasure with it :D) because I don't watch them! I'm too lazy to watch tv.

Your room is filled with anime and manga merchandise, and your collection is huge. You spend way too much money on anime and manga goods, and love JPop/Jrock and such. I'm between a 3 and 4.

TV/Anime: I don't watch anime on TV but I don't think it makes me any less of a fan. I usually watch it online or on a friends' DVD and buy it if I like it enough
I am a pretty big fan of anime and will get most anime a chance. Sometimes if a show becomes too popular I will be turned off by it though.

Merchandise: I have a few posters, some from cons and some that came with a DVD or whatever. I also have a keychain and a stuffed Momiji bunny, both gifts from my best friend. But despite this, my room isn't completely decked out in anime. I have a lot of other interests that occupy the contents of my room. ^^

Dub vs Sub: I would say I'm more of a subbie. I do occasionally watch dubs, however, and sometimes I like them more than the sub. But I prefer the Japanese usually. It really depends on the mood I'm in and what I feel like listening to.

Manga: Oddly enough, I used to dislike manga, mostly because of TP's whole "100% authentic", which I thought was a load of crap. -_-
Eventually I got over that and started to read manga, and now I love it. I buy much more manga than I do anime, and usually I like the manga more than the anime of a particular series.

J-pop: I am a big j-pop and j-rock fan. I do listen to American music, as well as other countries' music, but I listen to j-pop a lot more.

Cosplay: I will admit that I have never really cosplayed. I'd like to try it sometime, but I think I'd rather cosplay as a videogame character than anime character (cooler clothes).

Japanese Culture: I love Japan and someday I want to go there. But I am not so obsessed that I will say Japan is perfect. I think they have their problems just like every other country. In fact, there are a few things about Japan that really irritate me.
My favorite aspect of Japan is probably the language. I love the language and am learning it. ^^

Cons: I've only been to one con, though I'd love to go to more. It's just that they are too far away and, even though they're fun, not worth flying half way across the country to go visit, especially when I could be spending the money on videogames/anime.

So yeah....I'm casual in some aspects but not so casual in others, which is why I label myself inbetween a 3 and 4.

What's the level for "I used to be a big fan when I was little but not since I developed better taste"? ;) It's a rare series that'll catch my discerning eye now. I've had too much art schooling and read too many good books. Ten years ago, sure, all I thought about was anime and manga, and those were the days when you actually had to work hard to find the stuff. But now... I mainly just read the OELs.

I'm a level 3. I don't know why anyone would hate all dubs considering the english voice actors have to work just as hard as the Japanese ones. I know in older anime the dubs are horrible, but they've gotten better these days.

TonightMidnight

Hmm...I actually prefer dubs. I know people spazz out and slobber, because this dub sucks and the voice actors blah, blah, blah. But I usually (not all the time) don't like the way Japanese voice actors sound. It seems like all the girls have squeaky, painful-to-listen to voices and all the guys sound constipated. But there are exceptions and I don't mind watching subs.

I love J-Pop and I think the Japanese language sounds nice, but when it comes to voice acting I like sticking to English. Lol, sometimes even Spanish.

But I do agree with people when they say the guy who voiced Naruto should get his vocal chords smashed and then blown to pieces.

I like the original Japanese voice- over for the main character in Loveless. From the clip I saw, hearing his voice didn't shred my ears. He sounded like a normal boy.

My main beef with subs though is...when they yell. Goodness, whenever a Japanese voice actor makes their character yell or flip out- I want to go on a rampage, because it sounds so utterly horrible.

I'll take hearing corny dialogue any day as long as it's coming from an ok-sounding voice.

If I had to pick a level, I would say that I am a level 3. I watch anime series all the time but there aren't that many on offer where I live. I don't collect merchandise unless it's really good and I've never really had any posters because they freak me out. Until recently I had no manga but the minute I started college and was around shops that actually sold manga I went nuts spending almost all my money on them. I have also gotten into the habit of spending all my spare time at college looking up anime downloads and the new manga releases. Now one of my main goals in life is to build up my anime and manga collection. I have never cosplayed either and I'm not sure if I would. There is only ONE anime and manga convention in Ireland a year and I have never been to it yet ( mainly because I didn't know about it ) and I want to go on holiday to america sometime to check out its conventions so if anyone has any suggestions for must-see conventions that would be great.

Level 4, though I don't watch it on the computer, cause I like supporting domestic anime companies ^_^
I have over 500 anime dvd's/vhs, watch anime on TV, have hundreds of manga [and that's not counting my domestic comic collection, from over a decade of reading comics], and a decent collction of non-japanese animation as well. I'm a big geek in general, though I don't cosplay. Don't listen to Jrock much, but I do like the occasional anime soundtrack. Again, just a big geek in general. I read a whole whack of crap!

I'd have to say I'm either a 3.5 or a 4.

Level 4 seems to describe my obsession dead on the mark; the only thing that might make me a Level 5 is the fact that I actually do study Japanese and plan on minoring in the language in college, though I suppose that's different from pretending to understand it. I don't despise English translations with a fiery passion and in fact, support them because it means my favorite series will get a little more exposure, thus more friends to discuss the series with and more domestically available merchandise for me.

im 2.5? i edited 3 to make it like me!
You love anime and watch it a fare bit. Not ever on TV, but on the computer cuz there isnt any good anime on tv in canada. You have no posters and merchandise, and get books from the library. manga is great, and you just love all of your series. You kinda like Jpop/Jrock. You hate dubs cuz there cheesy. You never cosplay cuz its dumb and nerdy, and will never try it, and think people who cosplay look like idiots. You might go to Anime Cons if ur bord and feel like makin fun of the fat hairy nerds who obbsess over anime and dress up like anime characters like a 5 year old would for halloween or if theres good food there! :).

I'm not sure where I fit into this. I've grown up with it so I love it in a way where... It's like watching normal TV. Not having it around would be strange.

However, while I enjoy it, I do take big breaks from it. 6months was the longest, I came out of it since convention season starts in a few weeks time.

Maybe 2.5?

Hmm... I'm between level 3 and 4. I did collect manga (a decade worth of collection... ^_^) and some anime DVDs.. but that's all I suppose. Never cosplayed in my entire life but I love JRock and Jpop music.

kinda embarassing but, back in high school I'd have to say I was as close to 5 as could be. I had this massive Rurouni Kenshin thing going on. DVD's CD's fan-subs, downloads, scrolls, posters, figures, ufo catchers, and yes cosplay. Today? A boring old 3.

I'm a level 4 and by description I hope I never reach level 5.

Most seem to be level 3s. I haven't seen any level 5s yet or sturdy level 4s like myself. Just tweenies with 3 & 4.

By exact description, I would be a level 4 to its fullest. I would shudder to ever be a level 5 nor have I ever seen one. Would only imagen him/her to be a NEET if they matched up to that description.

I'm definitly halfway between 4 & 5. :)

I used to be only around a level 2-3 in my college days, but now that the interenet has really opened up & I have more money, I'm afraid I'm really getting more obsesive as the years go on. :P

Is there are 12 step program for Animeism?

I don't know why anyone would hate all dubs considering the english voice actors have to work just as hard as the Japanese ones. I know in older anime the dubs are horrible, but they've gotten better these days.

It's nice to see that I'm not the only one that likes dubs these days. I'm probably a 2 or a 3. I definately don't cosplay or collect merchendise though, I just don't get that stuff.

My level is somewhere over NINE THOUSAAAAAAAAND!!! D:<
Really though I'd have to say somewhere between 3 and 4 and parts of 5. And sadly, when I go into a book store I usually bitch about all the bent manga and books that "all those greasy weeaboo have mangled." I've complained about it so much that my brother and I kind of turned it into a bit of a joke. >.>
