So, any other shonen-ai/yaoi fans out there? I hope there are more of you like me as its my favorite genre. If there are any of you, how did you get into it? First books, favorite books, favorite pairings, etc.

I first got into it myself when I picked up Gravitation not knowing it was boys love. After that I fell in love. I mean, what's better than one bishounen? Two bishounen together of course! ;) My favorites at the moment are Gorgeous Carat, Loveless, Only the Ring Finger Knows, Viewfinder, Wild Adapter, Earthian, etc. I also of course love manga like Death Note, Bleach, and Prince of Tennis which have numerous characters that one can put into shonen-ai relationships if they want to.

Heh. XD It was Gravitation for me, too, but only because someone wouldn't stop talking about it. First addiction; first love. I also love Only The Ring Finger Knows. Loveless seemed pretty good, too, even though I haven't seen much of it. ^^;;

I love Shonen-Ai and Yaoi.
Favorites inculde:
Loveless, Gravitation, Only the Ring Finger Knows,
Eerie Queerie, Earthian, and others.

My parents are home now, they don't know my obsession. Edit and post more soon.

Gravitation... haha. I got the whole series, and I found out the novel was out too, so I got my mom to buy me that. And I have Eerie Queerie (Ghost!) too. And Loveless (*points to icon*)... Loveless = love <333 And Only the Ring Finger Knows. I want to order some more off of yaoi-manga.com, but I'm not sure if my mom would let me... ("Mom, I like boys on other boys. Please let me buy some manga so I can see it not only in my dreams, but in real life too. <3")

I got a lot of books about gay teenagers, but I suppose that isn't manga, so I might be going off topic a little.

(And it figures this is the first topic I post in in this forum, ne?)

Yaoi = love. <3

My aunt has had beboys and other yaoi japanese mangas and american slash since I was little and I got into yaoi through Slash, and my first yaoi manga was..gosh it's been so long I don't remember, lol. Right now I'm obsessing over Kizuna since I saw the manga-ka at Yaoicon,From Eroica With Love,Yami no Matsuei and Embracing Love, I also loved Passion and Only the Ring Finger Knows and Legal Drug. I'm waiting desperatly for Viewfinder to come out where I am and the OTRFK novel too.

I've bought a couple...I haven't read the origional Japanese ones so I don't know how well BLU translated their titles. I really enjoyed Wild Rock and Love Mode. Shinobu Kokoro was alright, I like the short story with the snow demon the most. I didn't really care for Gorgeous Charat. It just doesn't seem to want to make up it's mind about what it wants to be.

Seriously? So do I...but it's just not the same as manga :p

I'm looking for Loveless now. Both the manga and the anime. I saw a preview of both and loved them. So now I'm really interested in the series.

Being a straight guy even I will admit some shonen-ai is a good read (basically Gravitation) however... Creepy yaoi stuff like Kingdom Hearts, Naruto or even... *shiver* Harry Potter/Invader ZiM stuff is just... Wrong.

Am I the only one who feels seeing 8-14 year olds in any semi-sexual context is at least borderline pedophelia yet we (as a whole) seem to accept it as the norm? (Just look at favorites on DeviantArt... :/)

...I lost my post. Nyargh.

Well. I basically said I got into yaoi because a friend introduced me to Escaflowne fanfiction, and then it branched from there.

I don't read much translated yaoi graphic novels 'cause most of them, I've already read online, like Gorgeous Carat. I bought it, thinking it was something I've never seen before...though the name sounded familiar (you know you went through too many yaoi titles to remember one)... and half way through I went "what the-?! I already read this before!"

I don't like shota. They disturb me.

Most yaoi scanlations tend to not let you know what the story is about until someone bothers to make a synopsis about it, so you open the zip files, not really knowing what sort of story to expect, if any. Rare stories like "Love is your name" where you don't even see the main characters kiss, is a good manga to me. They develop more than just physical intimacies. Too many yaoi stories are repetitive with an uke liking some seme and thinking he's inadequate, unable to obtain that love and then suddenly he does and then they smex it up at the end to show how much they love each other. Not that I don't mind them, on the contrary, I love them. I just don't really pay much attention to the smex part, since they all look the same to me (except for the exceptional ones...).

Yeah, I prefer "ukes" that have potential to be "seme". :D They're more interesting that way.

It's not that I don't think they do, contrary, I feel (as a 21 year old mind you ;) ) that art/writing/media portraying such acts is deemedsomewhat immoral (at least from out country's moral standards.)

Unless you consider something like Evangelion, which does have such acts but portrays them in a tasteful and artistic way instead.

That and, is there any reason why Harry and Draco Malfoy would be together? I mean, they're enemies! That makes no sense. :/

Teenagers sometimes do do that kind of stuff, but maybe not as hardcore as some of the mangas make it seem. ^^; And yeah, it does seem immoral.

There's something about two enemies, such as Harry and Draco, actually becoming a pair that just interests people, I guess. XD

グラビテーション is a classic. ^_^ I'm addicted for life! I just purchased the novel and liked it. ^^ I can't wait to get the new Megamixes that just came out! They're so... hardcore. o.o; Now those are yaoi. XD I wouldn't call the manga yaoi at all, just BL.

Because yes, for your information, you shouldn't use the term "shonen-ai". Only america uses that term, 'cause well, they're stupid. xþ "Shonen ai" in japanese is understood more as pedophilia, you see. Japanese people, refering to boys x boys, say "BL" for "Boys Love". Here's a well-written Wikipedia article on the subject: here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shonen_ai).

Now that's out of the way. :þ I'm happy to see that this thread is one of the most popular ones on this brand-new forum! XD

I've yet to read Loveless, heard good things about it. ^^

I started enjoying these books by accident! Honestly! I picked up a title called FAKE. On the cover? Had two guy cops, and on the back (of Volume 1), had a teen girl and boy. And read on about 'Ryo and Dee'. I thought they were referring to the two on the back. haha! Anyhow, it was so good, I bought all seven as they came out. And ever since, have enjoyed some. Not all though.
My favorite of all Has to be Only the Ring Finger Knows. Too bad it was only a one shot.
You Higuri is also one of my favorite creators of all. Her Seimaden, Cantarella, an Gorgeous Carat are some of my favorite stories.

:D

I absolutely LOVE Shonen Ai and Yaoi manga!!!
Gravitation was what started it for me, followed quickly by Fake, which is still one of my all-time favourites.

Someone was asking about the Blu Manga line. I read Shinobu Kokoro and it was alright, but Love Mode is FANTASTIC! I was a little worried I wasn't going to enjoy it because I was turned off by the cover art, but the story is AMAZING. I love it! I can't wait until I get my copy of vol 2!!

I also like the Be Beautiful manga titles, although they're a little more pricey. I really enjoyed Kizuna, Embracing Love and Selfish Love. I also really liked Finder Series, although was a little shocked by a couple of things that happened to poor Akihito! That Asami is one sadistic guy! Especially the film incident! Sheesh!

Another title I really enjoyed was Level C, although it kinda falls under the "Plot? What plot?" category.

As for the DMP line, I really enjoyed Only the Ring Finger Knows and especially Yellow. I also enjoyed Passion and Desire.

I've read most of the comercially available English language Yaoi out there and am currently looking for some maybe lesser known titles. Anyone got any suggestions?

Thief and Detective! Personal oldie favourite. Gotta find it and reread it again...<3

Soup is slowly converting me to their favour. I like how much variety they have in their collection, though I haven't read all of them.

Usually with Hochuuami, they send an email with the latest scanlations and you know how groups tend to jump from title to title, depending on which ones are done first. <3 <3 That is awesome 'cause I always check email. They used to have a chapter out at least once a week, and it was heaven.

Whoa, I thought I was the only fangirl who didn't like Clamp! Seriously, I'm with you. They are highly overrated. They have really unoriginal stories and I really dislike how they reuse their characters in different series.

Anyways, in relation to the thread... Anyone else here love Yuzuhu Ougi's work? She draws some of the best (and hottest!) yaoi I've ever seen in all my years in the fandom.

Just so you know, Antique Bakery isn't what the description on the site (and even the back cover) make it out to be. There is one gay character and there is somewhat of a relationship between him and another character (in book 2) but it's nothing hardcore. Mostly just sweet. I really enjoyed it, but it was completely not what I was expecting. But, I know this made some people dislike the book. Please read it with an open mind and I think you'll really like it ^__^

yea btw. a lot of the series, like gravitation, and only the ringfinger knows, there not yaoi, because yaoi refers to sexual acts, so it's better to classify them as Shounen-ai. yea... so w/e
and also loveless as much as i love it and i hope that soubi and ritsuka smex soon. it's not shouta or yaoi or really even classified as shounen-ai thought i do know that the mangaka has done yaoi works because one of her oneshot series 'kill me' had heavy sex scenes in it.

Being a straight guy even I will admit some shonen-ai is a good read (basically Gravitation) however... Creepy yaoi stuff like Kingdom Hearts, Naruto or even... *shiver* Harry Potter/Invader ZiM stuff is just... Wrong.

dude, isn't that the same in shoujo and straight seried/ oneshot manga. i mean most of the ones i read before i transitioned mostly into BL series are like that except for the fact that the girls get more annoying and more bigged boobed, w/ less clothng on, especially on the cover of the books??? so it's nto that different, just that i persoanlly think that BL is better because there's actual plot to follow.... so i don't agree w/ ur commet, cause it's the bases of any romance series, manga or not.

btw. anyone here on aarinfantasy? or read viewfinder! (best series ever btw. i fell in LOVE w/ the characters in there. and the art . completely amaxing... and the asami/takaba scenes are adorable... and i love fei long's hair! who dosn't! what about crimson spell?

I really believe Gravitation is overrated in the shounen-ai/yaoi catergory. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Gravitation and it was probably the first anime shounen-ai/yaoi series I watched by every yaoi fangirl MUST know Gravitation. It would just be weird to go up to a yaoi fangirl and say, "So...have you seen Gravitation?" Because you know the answer will be yes. XP

I love Only the Ring Finger Knows and just recently got Beyond My Touch.

Has anyone read Denkou Sekka Boys? I don't know how old this is but it is on Hochuuami. I just fell in love with the series especially with all the hot guys in there. Then again, is there a yaoi series without hot guys? ^^;;

Kyou Kara Maou is just an amazing series, even if it doesn't imply THAT much shounen-ai or yaoi. It's just the fact you can pair anyone of them off and make them into a yaoi pairing. The fun...

i personally don't see what's wrong w/ slashing naruto characters, or characters from anyseries together if they are compatable. it's better than the actually couples or at least the hinted straight ones.

It really depends on "how" you portray it than "what" you portray. For example, if I were to write a Hermoine and Ginny slash, not only would it be non-cannon, but I would be considered sexually amoral for producing it. This is because the characters are "under-age" regardless of how I feel. This is why 18+ is the age when you can portray characters explicitly (unless of course you write the characters tastefully), and most slash/whatever is the product of fanfiction/fanart/whatever and thus written not to be an insightful exploration of character, but fan-service at its basest (not that it all is or has to be, but the majority is.)

A 40 year old man is marked as a pedophile if he where to have material on his computer with two 10-16 year old girls in compromising situations, yet if it's a 19 year old girl with yaoi featuring the characters of Naruto (none of which are older than 17) then it's all ok. And this is all not considering the fact that the characters may or may not engage in such acts via canon.

Has anyone read Denkou Sekka Boys? I don't know how old this is but it is on Hochuuami. I just fell in love with the series especially with all the hot guys in there. Then again, is there a yaoi series without hot guys? ^^;;

Kyou Kara Maou is just an amazing series, even if it doesn't imply THAT much shounen-ai or yaoi. It's just the fact you can pair anyone of them off and make them into a yaoi pairing. The fun...
OH MY F. G. I totally agree with you on Gravitation. It's okay, but I think it's kind of overrated, but I can sort of understand that people like it because it was thier first taste of BL.

Denkou Sekka Boys is awesome. I love it. I wish he a geek a little bit longer though. It would have been so cute. <3

Oh god, I want to finish watching Kyou Kara Maou, but I'm so poor.

It really depends on "how" you portray it than "what" you portray. For example, if I were to write a Hermoine and Ginny slash, not only would it be non-cannon, but I would be considered sexually amoral for producing it. This is because the characters are "under-age" regardless of how I feel. This is why 18+ is the age when you can portray characters explicitly (unless of course you write the characters tastefully), and most slash/whatever is the product of fanfiction/fanart/whatever and thus written not to be an insightful exploration of character, but fan-service at its basest (not that it all is or has to be, but the majority is.)

well, yea of course, you can slash characters but i do agree, that it depends on how u portray them. i would never read a fic, even if it sounded like a good slash fic, if the characters are Horibbly portrayed

Mostly I want to get down to where we draw the line? Should we even worry about such things?

If it's something like Naruto I don't really mind. It kind of irks me seeing as the characters are under-age (no matter if it's yaoi, yuri, or otherwise) but there's still the fact that a majority of the people that are into that kind of thing are under-age themselves. Should we chastise them for it? And furthermore, how far can someone take creative control of someone's works for mere fan-idolation? Even if it means writing completely out of canon. I could understand it if you were to write "I Luv Halloween" and change around the character's psychology and actions to get a specific response, however writing for the sheer purpose of fan-idolazation... Is that ok?

Personally as a writer myself I wouldn't like it if someone wrote a fan-fic featuring my characters in completely non-canon situations for no purpose other than to please some fans interesting imagination, regardless people will do that anyway so should the creators simply turn the other cheek?

I blame my love for yaoi on the internet. Stumbled upon a site that had purtty Loveless images, y'see, and it began there....

And then I found Gravitation. Thought Gravitation was funny. Funny was the reason I then liked bl. Then I found Love Mode. Then I found Shi-Ran. Then by bl love digivolved into yaoi love.

And a lot more stuff happened before I became the pervert I am today.

I like Kazuma Kodaka and Naono Nohra. And prolly Taishi Zaou. Yesh :).

Those ideas are conflicting for me, as I am an artsy person, but I enjoy reading slashes done by others. I would not like having my characters doing things I prefer them not doing, or portrayed wrongly. Is it not a violation of a creator's rights to have people depicting scenes, and characters to the way they want it without any permission from the creator?

It's not a violation of right, and really even if it was people would do it anyway. Of course, you as a writer/creator could publicly be known for taking a dislike of fanfiction/fanart that depics your characters in such acts. So long as you treat the matter with kid gloves your fanbase might respect you for it. And of course you could always say "While I don't support my work being portrayed in such a way, if you as a fan love my work so much that you'd take the original work in that context then I'll honor your devotion. However while I do look down on it, I still respect you as my fan and thank you for supporting me."

Personnaly, I don't see what is wrong with most fan-fiction/slash. You like the story or characters, other people do to, and you would like to write them in different situations than the writer had. The only times I don't like fanfiction is when they mess up the character's personality and get everything wrong. Even though we may not really know how this person or that person would react, we all get at least some idea when reading. I also find things like SpongeBob and Invader Zim slash to be scary.
It's all a matter of taste. If you don't like it, don't read it. If you only like certain ones, read those. If you like as much as some of us (cough, me) try writing your own. Even the greatest artists and musicians started out by copying others.

Now as to shota, I like most shota. Anything below 11 is not for me though. That is mainly because I am still a teen and started reading shota and slash around twelve. And since people identify themselves with their age group, I read shota. But I don't like the Father/son or the baby stuff. As for it being pedophilia or not, it's not real. There are even Gore Hentai (forget other phrases). And even tenticle yaoi. Just because you might enjoy a book or drawing of imaginary people, doesn't mean you like it in real life. Now, if you have pics or whatnot of real underaged kids, that is a different matter.

(long post. . . but so many replies already, so hard to keep up with people)

One issue with your statement is that, I am not a female. but now that the thread has gotten hardcore serious. I am not touching it.

Interesting...unless it becomes profit, then it's a violation.

They had that conflict before on fanfiction.net when a number of authors didn't want to be in the category (Anne Rice, Mercedes Lackey...).

Doujinshi is another 'for fans' without much else to do with creators. In the many yaoi doujinshi found, and being sold, they don't seem to have a problem with them. Yuu Watase even mentioned her disappointment of not seeing any yaoi pairings for her Fushigi Yuugi manga in her 'comments' section.

They do, but Loveless is technically incomplete. The manga was supposed to go on (I think a second series) but I am not sure what happened. Therefore the anime can't go on. And the last episode happens to be the most confusing episode I've ever seen.

And they tried suing too. Not sure what happened. . . .

I forgot all about Doujinshi. If they were made here, the writers would definitely sue. But lucky for us (and the Japanese people) most manga artists don't. Some even make their own Doujinshi with other companies (the creator of Gravitation has her own, more juicy stories).

I'm actually surprised that series wasn't mentionned before. It doesn't have all that much BL though, so I guess it's why. But it's a great series, I love Yuuri, and I love poking fun of Wolfram. XD

Random fact: Yuki Eiri and Gunter have the same voice actor. XD

As to Gravi being overrated... *shrugs* I got into it through a friend... Wasn't part of the hyped until I seriously got back to it last year and got the manga. I was really disappointed in the anime. The last two episodes were completely based off *nothing* in the manga. And forgive me if I misunderstood you, but the manga is still running under the original title. It looks like it'll be wrapping up in about a year or two more. So far it looks like the anime won't be continued, which frankly I'm not terribly sad about. ^^;

XD I liked shoujo-ai before shounen-ai, due to the relationship between Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune in Sailor Moon. After watching Fruits Basket however, I went on the net looking for fan fiction and ran into Kyou/Yuki fan fiction. I've adored shounen-ai ever sense, though not really in Fruits Basket anymore, unless it deals with Haru. Who is good with everyone really. XD

At the moment, my favorite series are...

Gravitation --> obviously
{ Tatsuha/Ryuchi

Get Backers --> so almost canon it hurts
{ Ban/Ginji; Juubei/Kazuki

Hikaru no Go; K2 Company --> *squish*
{ Hikaru/Akira; Isumi/Waya

Kyou Kara Maou; ---> toilet king? beautiful.
{ Yuuri/Wolfram; Yuuri/Murata

Loveless --> shota? oh yes.
{ Soubi/Ritsuka; Soubi/Kio

Love Mode --> too young for it? never. >.>
{Aoi/Naoya

Mirage of Blaze --> iffy, but too good to deny watching.
{ Naoe/Takaya

Prince of Tennis; K2 Company --> ... i will not turn into goo, i will not turn into goo... *turns into goo*
{ Shishido/Ohtori; Atobe/Jirou; Oshitari/Mukahi; Oishi/Kikumaru; Inui/Kaidou; Yuuta/Mizuki; Fuji/Yuuta; (randomly everything else)

Tactics --> not sure why, but i like~
{ Haruka/Kentarou

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle --> mm' mother of all crossovers makes for so many plot ideas...
{ Kurogane/Fai

Yami no Matsuei --> scary in many ways. good~
{ Tsutsui/Hisoka

it's not discontinued because it comes out monthly in zero sum... and also, i thought the anime was good. granted the last episode was confusing, and kinda pointless cause it didn't rap-up the good episodes they had, the art work is some of the best for anime art compared to sooo many out there.

thought, even though gunter and yuki have the same voice, i love how the voice actors are talented enough to make them sound totally different. i was listening to soubi's voice actor once, when he wasn't doing his 'soubi voice' . sounds completely different!

I always thought gay guys would find it amusing to see how girls depict gay people, since the fluff isn't really accurate.

...I always try to get guy friends to appreciate yaoi, but nowadays they're cautious with what I try to get them to read. "Last time you said there wouldn't be any gay smex and the second page had them going at it like rabid dogs!" Lost some credibility in the name of yaoi.

Well, that's because the original word used -- "sentouki" -- literally means "fighter plane". That's kind of a weird thing to say in English, so different groups translated it differently. "Warcraft" was by far the most off and misleading, though. X__x; I don't love "fighter unit" (which is what Tokyopop uses) because it sounds stiff, but it's accurate at least.

It was pretty good. And I must agree, the art was really good. For a second I thought I was watching something from Studio Ghibli (some of the best artwork I've seen). I don't really see too many anime series with good artwork and detail. It's usually only the movies that are.

Yeah it is a lot better then some. But why they couldn't translate as just Fighter. To me that would be a little more interesting and personal.

I have pretty much every title mentioned on this thread. I love yaoi stuff and I've gotten so bad that I put down titles that don't have BL in it, or at least characters that I can slash up in my own messed up little head. Gravi was my first yaoi read. My most recent is Love Mode, which is the first title that I've read that has a character who is actually, honestly concerned with his sexuality. Of course, I'm not looking for complete realism here :D Blu manga's stuff is nice and so is DMP's line. Tokyopop seems to have the lighter BL like Ghost! (err...Eerie Queerie...*squicky noises*) Legal Drug, and Gravi (wait, is that light yaoi or was that just me?)

That's all right. I want to wait for Loveless when it is released here. But if you could send me the link to the Live Journal Community, please? It's really hard (for me) to search for lj communities. The search for those isn't exactly easy.

Veroniku:
Luna Sea ones, huh? I must track those down *goes off to search*. I don't have any Jrock doujinshi, but I heard there are some Psycho le Cemu ones out there.

Good to know I'm not the only one who felt left in the dark. I'm definitely looking forward to buying all the volumes of Loveless because....I love Soubi! :D The fact that they will make a second series makes me excited!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to bust in, but look back a couple pages (#7 I think) to see my response to her post. The Loveless manga was never discontinued and no 'second series' will be started. The manga has been running nonstop for about 4 years, and looks like it'll go for about two more.

I have to say its Yami no Matsuei, Loveless, Boys Next Door, Stigma, Three Wolf Mountain, Akward Silence, Legal Drug, and Our Kingdom for me.

however, once i get some more money you except more blu manga titles included in that list!

I'm not a big yaoi fan, the smutt kind of turns me off, but shonen-ai is the cutest thing! I love it. Although there has been one smutty yaoi manga I love and that's Unrequited Love Maniac. Anyone heard of it? I hope that they license it. Lamen Lunae as well. (Not as smutty, just more bloody)

Like almost everyone else my first intro to yaoi was Gravitation, although you couold say it was even before that through CLAMP and CCS (on a shonen-ai level);)

If there's something that I'm obsessing about (apart from Weiss Kreuz..) it's shounen-ai and yaoi! :P

I think my first book and anime was really Gravitation, as I started with anime, and discover most of the s-ai and yaoi titles after that.. :p

My favs:

S-AI: Gravitation of course, Loveless (who resists Ritsuka-chan cuteness and Soubi yummyness?), Lawful Drug, Eerie Queerie, Only the Ring finger Knows.. And those anyone see DNAngel as s-ai? LOL (*a Satoshi and Daisuke fan*)

YAOI: You're My Love Prize in Viewfinder and Haru no Daite Ita are my favourites! Then there's a lot of other yaoi mangas that I like a lot! :P

Yes, totally! :D I always thought it was weird and then I read Kaori Yuki's 'Boys Next Door'. Now that was more romantic than Romeo and Juliet.

I like my shonen-ai to be mild, like CLAMP's 'Legal Drug'. Doujinshi yaoi is usually pretty good, like the Kao Kara Maioh ones.

I also like rare one-shots that you can get scanlations for like 'Thief and Detective'. I haven't read any of the bigger, more popular series.

Nice to know I'm not the only freak out there! Just kidding. :p Bishonen rock!!

I accidently came accross the first episode of Gravitation and that is where it all started. When I found out there was a manga Gravi I went out and bought all the volumes that were out and my addiction just got worse as time went on and I find more titles, and with age I have started to lean more towards the hardcore stuff but I still like the fluffy <3

I definitely agree with you in the Daisuke x Satoshi slashing but i've found almost no stories or doujins of it ever. As I was reading it, it just seemed so heavily implied.
oh yeah, and i'll reiterate, I'm excited to start reading loveless after seeing the first eppie on a newtype disc. Oh.. and on a tangent, the ending theme song is one of the most beautiful songs. Ever. and if you disagree... I'll fight you. xP

I looooooove slash, but I don't really consider myself a yaoi fan. The uke/seme thing is just so restrictive and stereotyping. And the little boy-looking ukes make it even worse. O.o Not to mention all the consent issues -- rape is just wrong, I don't wanna read about it in a "romantic" story. (Okay, if it's a really good hurt/comfort thing -- but the seme raping the uke? Ew ew ew ew.) I realize not all BL is like this (FAKE and Only the Ring Finger Knows -- YAY!) but so much of it is, especially the ones I keep seeing recommended.

I'd love to see more OEL BL manga... *hint, hint, aspiring manga creators!*

WOOHOO!! Count in me, babeh!! Yaoi rocks my world, but the reason I got into it is because 1) I'm pro gay [but is bi, so don't get no ideas] 2) bishounen hunter = yaoi almost always has good art 3) because yaoi is life

Some of the best yaoi manga out there is: Wild Rick, Alone in My King's Harem, Only The Ring Finger Knows, Viewfinder Series, Beyond My Touch [unfortunately, it's shounen ai].

I was disappointed with Demon Diary since nothing every happened between Raenef and Eclipse! I blame the change of manwha-ka though. ^^;; I'm sure the original author had in mind to include a kiss scene.

I actually agree... Invader Zim, HP, or even Digimon yaoi is just icker-roo-roos. >< Same with anyone under legel age in mangas doing quasi sexual stuff. It's totally twitch worthy.

I've liked yaoi for a long time. I used to get most of it off the internet (scanslations). Now more and more yaoi manga are being published ... which is a good thing, but I always find it embaressing to go to the bookstore and buy it ... I mean, the cover has 2 boys together, & the clerk knows me well. >> so I kinda preffered getting yaoi via internet.
As for favorites ... I really like Love Mode (I see that's published now too XD) and Awkward Silence. I still tend to go with the scanslation sites for my need. <3

My school carries manga too, but not any yaoi series =(

I really like Legal Drug - I think it's funny. Yami no Matsuei is awesome too =3

Despite deeply loving yaoi, I do read lots of "normal" manga too. Land of the Blindfolded is a cute series, and some of the newer stuff coming out (in the US, anyways) isn't that bad, like Ultra Cute.

Oh, I recently found something else by the author of FAKE called Until the Full Moon. When I first opened it I thought it was some other story with Ryo and Dee in it, but it turned out to be something different (still a boyxboy relationship) but still quite cute! Kyaaaaaaa!!! I love this forum. :D

YES!! That's the spirit! I snigger loudly at the shagging scenes in the book whenever I go to the book store that carries yaoi. People would then look at me strangely and move away... and then I always end up buying the safe yaoi ones... the ones where they only snog... or hug.... *sigh*

Um, I've read Eerie Queerie, and pretty much every CLAMP manga has yaoi connotations.
The majority of yaoi I've read are fanfics, really good ones, involving characters who aren't openly involved. I don't know if there's anyone who also prefers this, but having a gay couple set up kind of takes away from the....mystery(?)....that's not the right word. It's the difference between reading about Shuichi/Yuki (Gravitation) versus Kakashi/Iruka (Naruto).
I think I just enjoy reading about couples that aren't "official" or something.

I think someone was wondering about yaoi anime? There's a website called Boys on Boys on Film where a person watches various yaoi anime and writes reviews. I was slightly disturbed by My Sexual Harrassment....

Sukisho was... interesting. Only watched the anime. It was quite cute and weird, until the end. Then it was HILARIOUS. Hilarious 'cause I watched it with a friend and we kept saying random comments, and saying everything that would obviously happen and... it happened. XD; "Oh there it'll happen just like in the past! OMG it actually did! How cliché and stupid!" XD And the whole "women don't exist in this world" thing was quite hilarious.

And Nanami was quite disturbing, 'cause... Well he's voiced by Ishida Akira... Xelloss, Satoshi, etc for god's sake! XD I was traumatised.

That's my two cents on Sukisho. :þ Are the games better?

XD Currently I'm reading Viewfinder, Loveless, Wild Rock, Embracing Love, Level C, Golden Cain, Brothers, Love Mode - so far. One of my friends lent me the OVA to My Sexual Harrassment, and I couldn't help myself in ad-libbing all the way through the episodes. I have seen the anime for Sukisho, and the last episode was the best one! It was kind of strange, though. I liked a lot of the characters.

My first was Gravitation, of course. And then I lent it to my friend and we both got addicted to yaoi together. And then I switched schools, and got my friends there addicted to yaoi too. Whee, it must be contagious or something. XD

I'm currently not reading anything, though. Finished all the shounen-ai/yaoi that I have... I think I'm just gonna look through this thread and pick up new titles. =n.n;=

If we're talking about Yaoi/Shounen-ai manga, I'm the biggest fan here. I read a lot of the mangas already until I don't know how many I have or read. haha...Later, I'll make the list. ;) So feel free to ask me anything regarding yaoi if I can help. ^^

Fake is good, and Demon Diary. I don't own either of these though. My friend has them.

I own Diabolo, its only just Shounen-ai, there isn't alot of romancy stuff in it, but then I haven't read the last book yet.

I agree too!! I totally forgot about this series, it was really sweet but the ending was REALLY bad. T_T Left with 2 characters that didn't matter all that much. ^^;; I was expecting a lot better ending but it just never happened.

I really like Gorgeous Carat, but why is it that Tokyopop's putting out all thier shounen-ai/yaoi under Blu now? I was happier with the old system, because exclusive yaoi publishers have a reputatation for translating the least intelligent mangas...whereas under the simple label "Tokyopop" everyone respects it because of the rep, regardless of genre. But yeah, I'm planning to get Gorgeous Carat, I have Eerie Queerie, and the "hint"-y stuff of Les Bijoux, Tarot Cafe, Diabolo...

I own/read a lot manga that drawn by these mangaka; Abe Miyuki, Ayano Yamane, Youka Nitta, Shiho Sugiura, Riyu Yamagami, Sakuragi Yaya and many more.

As for manga collections, my fav would be Komatta. The story is shounen-ai and it's very cute..:D Since I have so many manga, I don't know which to write in here...hehe...

I didn't know that BLU was a branch off of Tokyopop. That's interesting to hear actually. I haven't gotten much from BLU - just Gorgeous Carat and Eerie Queerie (which is a weird name since the Japanese name is totally different).

I'm wondering what kind of problems come along with translating doujinshis.

I also of course love manga like Death Note, Bleach, and Prince of Tennis which have numerous characters that one can put into shonen-ai relationships if they want to.

I really can't see the shounen-ai part in death Note.

Anyway, I can't say I'm obbsessed with shounen-ai. However, Gravitation is the most fantastisc manga I've ever read. But I feel rather embaressed when the yaoi scenes comes. It is not really what I like. I prefer more like "Hidden\hint shounen-ai" (It's kinda cute) if you know what I mean.. (Hard to explain...)

I know what you mean by the hidden or hinted at stuff. I think that is cute up to a point, but I want to know for sure if two characters are going to get together. It's different when there are "slashable" guys who probably are completely straight...that's the realm of fanfic and fanart etc. Gravi would have been weird and without closure had the relationships been hinted at, it just wouldn't have worked. But I still know what you mean :)

Personally, I love a full blown shonen-ai with kisses and all that good stuff. I think the separate Blu label was made to distance Tokyopop's general audience of children, teens, and adults who may/may not like boy love. Letting your 12 year old read *insert everyone rated Tokyopop manga* while one book over on the shelf is something shrink wrapped with two hot guys at it is a little disconcerting.

Plus, that little blue label on the binding lets your eye go right for the kill and saves lots of time at the store :D

Erm, I have seen many many fanfics/art on the pairing Light/L.

It's all in the mind...

Loveless is great! But I haven't got the chance to read Gravi yet, it looks nice too. Ouran Host Club may not really be S-ai, more to shoujo, but it has hints everywhere... love that too!

Yes. Legal Drug. Definately start with that because technically it's a flawless shounen ai manga. Tho I've heard it's on hiatus so right now you can only get three volumes.

If you end up liking Legal Drug (which you probably will!), and want to move on to something with actual kissing in it, a fantastically sweet shounen-ai is Only the Ring Finger Knows - 'tis a great introduction. :D

There is only one comic store in my area and they are American comic freaks. I went there and went through every aisle and every shelf looking for ANY manga nad I asked if they had it and the fat nerdy guy laughed at me and said:
"HA HA! We only sell American comics you dork!"

Sort of made me want to go hide in a corner becuase all the nerds there were laughing at me...

My main manga source is Borders. Thy have mostly regular manga but they do have enough yaoi manga to keep me happy LOL. (Mostly DMP...)

Well, all that stops you doing is buying manga online - you can still special order them. Just go to the counter/information desk/whatever and say you'd like to order a certain title (it helps if you know the ISBN number), and they should take your number so they can ring you, and give you a possible date for the manga to be in. Give it a try - I have to all the time. :D

Yeah, exactly what everyone said (anyway, if they denigrate it, odds are they don't read it and so won't know the names anyway), and always remember that most of them don't care. I work in a bookshop, and once an old man (about eighty?) came in and ordered a pop-up Karma Sutra. Now, I didn't notice that until he was halfway down the street outside. People are generally off in their own dream world, thinking about their next break, or what they're going to do once their shifts end.

What I always tell myself is that it really doesn't matter - I'll never meet them in a social context anyway. <-- ETA: Okay! Just read your post about your Grandma (right?), so scratch all that - find another bookshop. :D
