I know this thread would be better placed if it were on cosplay.com or something like that, but for some some reason I can't log on there.
ANYHOW...
This is my first time cosplaying, and I am going to try to make a costume for Phantom Dark from DN Angel. However, there are a few problems...
1) I'm a girl. D: Any ideas what I can do about the "body parts?"
2) I'm not sure what materials Dark's outfit is made out of. I just need to know what the costume should be made out of, and where to get the material that is used.
3) I planned on getting a wig from Katie Bair, but I'm afraid the wig wouldn't come in time for Anime Boston (the convention I'm wearing this costume to) since she isn't taking orders until 2007. Any tutorials on how to make my own wig, or maybe a place that sells unstyled wigs?
4) WINGS. I need to know where to get/ how to make 'em.
5) I just want to know: has any other girl out there ever crossplayed before? Or am I just weird?
Any help is greatly appreciated. :D

1) Try tape. You know where that goes... X|
2) Which outfit do you plan on making? The materials depend on the outfit you know.
3) There's a cosplay resource thread somewhere here. I'll look it up.
EDIT: http://messageboard.tokyopop.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3118&highlight=resources
4) Hot Topic has some wings. They're pretty small but you won't be smacking people with them.
5) Cosplayed as Dark? For me, no. But of course I have cosplayed.

Thanks, Jacku. :) The outfit I plan on making is this one:http://www.absoluteanime.com/dnangel/dark.jpg I couldn't find one with the pants in it, so I'm going to assume that you know what the pants look like. xD Also, do you know where I could get a pattern for this costume? Thanks! :D

Dark has so many cool outfits, why did you choose that one?

I chose this one because it is the simplest one I know about, and I am a new cosplayer with absolutely no sewing experience.

Oh, you don't have colplayer friends that will help you?

Nope. All my friends know what cosplay is (only because I told them about it) But they've never reallt gotten into it. Besides that, only a few of my friends like anime, and only a couple of them are even sort of into it. However, we are a bit younger (stuck in middle school) so they aren't really... say, mature enough for anime yet. But once we get into high school... nya ha ha ha ha ha ha.... :D

you're welcome. :)
To tell the truth I don't remember what his pants look like despite seeing this outfit so many times... Maybe you can buy a pair of pants. It saves you the time of sewing. You probably have to make a few alterations but it's not much work.

Ah. I believe I can help.
1. Tensor/Ace/whatever they're called in your area are your best friends. So is sports tape. Never EVER use duct tape unless you feel like losing skin. I use the tensor bandage method myself but you might want to try others. There's a binding thread on Cosplay.com that gives good ideas, I suggest checking it out.
2. For this outfit, stay away from satins, etc. Anything shiny is a no-no. Take into account that Dark uses all his outfits to commit robberies, which involve alot of movement, so a material that breathes. A heavy cotton might work.
3. Cosworx sells wigs. For this one start with a bang-less, shoulder-length wig and cut it, then style the bangs using a blowdryer and hairspray.
4. Uhh... depending on how big you wanna go, you could either buy or make them yourself. I know there are wing tutorials out there, try Googling it.
5. I'm a girl and I crossplay almost exclusively. =D Boy costumes are so much funner to do than girl costumes, IMHO.

1) Ultimachan is right. Ace Bandages work really well. Don't buy the store brand, though. Buy the good stuff. I've also used a compression shirt, but Ace bandages are cheaper. Karisu-sama on cosplay.com has a really good list of the different ways for women to bind here (http://forums.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=15709).
2) Don't use shiny fabric, or fabric that's too thin, unless you're going to line it. Twill might work well on this, since it's a heaver kind of fabric. You could also ask an employee about what to get at whatever fabric store you go to.
3) Cosworx has a good selection of wigs, as does Amphigory, but Cosworx tends to be a bit faster. I'd say start with a long wig, then cut off the excess from the back (make sure you don't cut it too short, otherwise the wefts would show, and that's bad). From there, you can use clear caulk to make new wefts from the hair you just cut off (plus extentions you can buy online), and sew those in.
Another idea is to look for cosplayers on cosplay.com or cosplaylab.com who have done Dark before, and ask them how they made their wigs.
4) Online is always a good place, or any Halloween stores in your area if they haven't closed yet (hey, I suppose it's possible). I'm sure you can find tutorials online as well, since I've seen tutorials for making other parts of various costumes before.
5) You're definitely not weird for wanting to crossplay. I've done it before, and a good number of my friends that cosplay have done crossplay as well. Heck, one of my friends who cosplays as Sailor Moon has also crossplayed as Silent Bob! ^.^
Good luck on your costume!
