The Sudio Ghibli Films that I have seen are Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Castle in the Sky, Kiki's Delivery Service, Howl's Moving Castle, and My Neighbor Totoro. I like each of them for different reasons, but I would say that I've watched Kiki's Delivery Service the most and I want to see Grave Of The Fireflies.

It's a very hard pick, since Ghibli movies often deal with very different subjects for each film. There's very little comparison between Grave of the Fireflies and Spirited Away, but the storytelling and portrayal are both lovely and effective. I really like Howl's Moving Castle. :) Whisper of the Heart (not in USA yet) is also very good too!

Out of the ones I've seen(Which is quite a few), I personally liked "Whisper of the Heart", "Princess Mononoke", "Porko Rosso" and "Nausicaa". "Kiki's Delivery Service is really good, too, though I haven't watched it in a while... So was "Castle in the Sky"... Even though "Spirited Away" is a popular one, I didn't care for it that much... It wasn't bad though.
I wanna watch "Grave of the Fireflies". Everyone keeps saying it's so sad and that's got me interested. ^^;;

I love Spirited Away. Haku is a great character.
As for Howl's Moving Castle... I enjoyed it, but since I read the book first and then watched the movie, it probably ruined the experience a little bit for me.

To make sure every film is somebody's favorite, I liked pom poko a lot, about racoons trying to trick developers into leaving their land alone. One particularly fascinating part for me is a ceremony where they play this music that I think might be Ondo music? I like Shoukichi Kina and Champloose, who played kind of rock ondo music, and I've been trying to find out what that is. I'm gathering now that it's for sort of a day of the dead like ceremony related music, in Japan (after remembering to look on wikipedia). I like the music anyway.
Also, Miyazaki related (but not entirely Miyazaki san) that I liked was Panda! Go Panda!. The first episode on the DVD I got from netflix is reallly funny and the Panda character seems like it might have been an early inspiration for Totoro.
I also tried to watch an even less Miyazaki related anime called Sherlock Hound, but I couldn't stand watching it after about 5 minutes.
My Neighbor Totoro has a special place in my heart. My favorite of his stories is Naausica, but the Anime is only about 1/8th of the manga story. I wish they would do the rest of it (I'm told the manga came after so, I guess I understand).
By the way, do you know if any of the Miyazaki anime have manga other than Nausicaa that have an expanded story, or are otherwise significantly different?
Oh.. well I should have seen this:
http://www.nausicaa.net/miyazaki/manga/
So, there's manga of his to be read that isn't in anime. But it doesn't say if the manga for say porco rosso is different than the anime.

Kiki´s Delivery Service. Not only my favorite Ghibli movie, but my ALL TIME favorite movie EVER (after I first watched it in the early nineties, I remember rewinding the videocassette again and again and again... I must have seen it almost TWENTY times in one week).
What do you think of the upcoming Gedo Senki? Have you read the Earthsea books it is based on?

This past weekend I finally bought and watched Kiki's Delivery Service. What can I say...FANTASTIC MOVIE!!! Watched it three times and still enjoyed it. Downside was the dubbed voices they used but then again, I watched it with the original Japanese voices (English sub-titles). Using the closed-captioning option, the English dub changed quite a bit from the original text.
Still an excellent movie. I'd recommend it :)

If I'd read this little more than a month ago, I would definitely have said Spirited Away, without a doubt, but...
I finally sat down and watched Whisper of the Heart last week, and it's just so- so lovely. Especially the scene in which they all spontaneously burst into music and singing - oh! And if you liked The Cat Returns, you get to see the original versions of the Baron and Muta, which I was not expecting at all.
In its bare essentials, a girl goes into crisis-mode over what she's going to do in her life. And then she takes the bravest way possible to sort it out. And it's fantastic. :D

Ghibli movies are very well done. Most Ghibli movies I've seen are Miyazaki movies.
-Spirited Away
-Castle in the Sky
-Whisper of the Heart
-Nausicaa
-Kiki's Delivery Service
-Porco Rosso

One great non-Miyazaki Ghibli film is Grave of the Firelies. It's a very sad movie.
I really can't decide. I think it's a tie between Spirited Away/Princess Mononoke. Whisper of the Heart is also very close too.

XP Studio Ghibli does very high quality work. I got a set of 4 DVD's called 'The Archives of Studio Ghibli' recently, so I got to see a lot more of their work.
'On Your Mark (Chage & Aska)' was excellent. My only regret is that it was so short.
My favorite of their works, though, is definitely Princess Mononoke. It's just a great movie. XD (San is also very funny... Which is why it won). I liked the original language version better, though... Despite the great English way it was noted that San would make a lovely wife. (She would, too...) Shame that the movie ended the way it did, without much romance, but Stuido Ghibli DOES have a habit of making movies with slightly different endings then what you'd expect. It's part of their greatness. I've also seen, let's see...
Porcoros (Porco Rosso) (In Japanese!)
Nausicaa (In Japanese!)
Kiki's Delivery Service (In Japanese!)
Castle in the Sky
And a few others I don't know the names of. XD I saw one I THINK might have been called '2' last night (I doubt it was) featuring a lyric/story-writing girl and a violin-making boy... Meh. I'm describing this HORRIBLY, aren't I?
Oh, well. Ghibli has my vote for 'Best Anime Studio' any day because their works are consistently top-level. I have yet to see a bad film by them.:D

And I think the one you're talking about is Mimi wo Sumaseba (aka 'Whisper of the Heart') - I surprised myself with how much I loved that one - possibly even more than Spirited Away. >_>

Much to my surprise, my all-time favorite Ghibli movie is Mimi wo Sumaseba (Whisper of the Heart - how'd the translation turn out? I'd be particularly interested to hear from someone who's also seen the original. It seems to me that there would be a few points that would be nearly impossible to render well into English). If it hadn't been by Ghibli, I probably never would have given it even a second glance, especially if I'd seen a basic plot summary. Yet somehow, despite the fact that it's the dead opposite of what I usually enjoy, it's also the one I find myself rewatching most often. The manga, which I just read a few days ago, was excellent, and in many ways the better story, but I get the feeling that if I'd read it first, I wouldn't have been drawn to it the same way I was to the movie.
Second place goes to Spirited Away. It's a fun story, and (as a would-be translator) I was impressed by how well the dub was done.
And, for the film I'm glad I saw, but which I never intend to watch again, the prize goes to Grave of the Fireflies.

There is a manga on Whisper of the Heart??? WHERE?!!
Anyway, here are the lists of Studio Ghibli's movies which I've watched:
Spirited Away
Princess Mononoke
Howl's Moving Castle
Whisper of the Heart
I really like them all. Spirited Away re-introduced me back to my love for anime-movies, Princess Mononoke was captivating and amazingly endearing, Howl's Moving Castle was dazzling, and Whisper of the Heart was really pulling and wonderfully fresh adorable.
A few days ago I just got myself a DVD collection of Studio Ghibli's works, and am going to watch these soon:
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
Only Yesterday
My Neighbor Totoro
Pom Poko
Porco Rosso
Laputa: Castle In The Sky
Tombstone of Fireflies
Kiki's Delivery Service
The Cat Returns
Sound of the Ocean
I'm glad reading thru the posts in this thread showed me that various people like various Studio Ghibli movies, and not specific only towards a certain one or two, and the reviews made me even more eager to watch them all! Cheers!

tales of earthsea. unfortunately it will be a while until it comes to the US due to rights of the name, 2009 i think.
Not the name, but rather the rights to the book series by Ursula K. LeGuin it's based on..... the series was made into a TV miniseries by SciFi Network a few years ago, and their license is until 2009. LeGuin herself rather dislike the movie, which made many of the black/coloured characters into caucasian ones, kind of defeating some of the themes/world building of the work.
http://www.ursulakleguin.com/UKL_info.html She talks about this on her website. She did like some aspects of the Ghibli version, though was lead to beleive Hayao would direct [she was a fan of Totoro], and was dissappointed by some of Goro's choices. She seemed to have liked it better that SciFi's, though it's not quite the Earthsea of the books....
Ghibli's adaption is primarily based on The Farthest Shore, the 3rd book, though it mixes in elements of the 4th+5th books [which weren't featured in SciFi's version].
PS- The Earthsea books kick total ass, and you should read em before you see the anime. They're fairly common, with a new one every decade or so, and I'd also recommend checking out Le Guin's other books as well/
PPS-- Also, while it's not available in the US quite yet, Ghibli/BuenaVista [aka Disney] have authorized a release in the UK and other European countries, as the rights issues don't apply there. Though that's a PAL format release, so it might not be a good import option. BUT.....
The Japanese R2 DVD will include subtitles [and be NTSC, which means it'll play on North Ameircan TV's if you have a regionless dvd player], and apparently a dub version as well, depending on which version of the DVD you buy.
Though Disney is very likely to release it on DVD in 2009, which'll be around the time Hayao Miyazaki's next film will be completed [and likely distributed in American theatres]

My favorites have to be Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle. I liked all the ones which came to DVD, but these two are definitely the best.

I love Studio Ghibli and have all the films on DVD <3 But my favourite without a doubt is My Neighbour Totoro (I am watching it right now : D ) I am obbessed with it lol, any time I got to a convention I just buy tons of Totoro merchandise, I think at one of the London Expos they had a HUGE Totoro plushie and I wanted it so badly... even though it wouldn't fit anywhere in my house ^ _ ^;
I really love the music in the film as well and I want to get the soundtrack but I've never been able to find it anywhere u_u
