I have a hundred fave bad guys (they are usually my favorite characters) but the current one is Envy, since I don't really think that Wrath counts (hes way too innocent, even when he becomes a homunculus) and Kharl and Garfakcy from Dragon Knights (dunno if you read it) That's all I'll say for now.

I think the scariest, most horrible anime bad guy is Itachi and Orochimaru. I HATE both characters, so that tells you something. I usually find something likable in a bad guy, but not those two...

I'll have to go with Zabuza since he really surprised me at the end. I won't count Haku since he was merely a weapon. If I have to choose the most vile villain, I'll go for Naraku!

I'm going to say Envy from Full Metal Alchemist. I think that a large part of the reason Anime and Manga villians are so popular is that they are rarely portrayed as being evil for evil's sake. There's usually a reason for what they are doing; be it some deep emotional scar or the desire for revenge or power or whatever-they are still portrayed as people.

What I like about Envy is that while you could say that he is a product of his circumstances, you can't really call him a victim (the way you might justify RK's Sojiro or PSoH's Count D) of those circumstances. He's every bit as well rounded as a character, with just as tragic a past, but still, you can't feel sorry for him. He's that perfect balance. A villian you can empathize with without sympathizing with. He just enjoys being evil way too much.
