Ditto except the spawn figures I didn't know about.

I don't really like going into the store near here though because it's small and the employees stare at me when I walk in, I hate it when people stare at me. Don't they have something better to look at? Scary people

There's something wrong with Hot Topic employees; every single one I've gone into they've harassed me every thirty seconds asking what I need.

That, and their clothes are of extremely shoddy quality. And it smells in there. And they play lousy music. DD:

i've never bought a single article of clothing from there.
i haven't had a need to go into the one in my area ever since they got rid of 90% of the toys and removed the vinyl section.

i do like the store in an almost sick marketing curiousity,
what are all the "cool" teenagers into this month?

the only reason why i give Hot Topic more flack than any other mall chain store,
is HT is the only one that pretends it's underground and hip.
it's a publically traded company like all the rest of them...

then again i live in a world now where the warped tour is sponsored by 35 companies and clear channel and yet it's still somehow "punk".

As an old skooler, this is my opinion on HT.
http://www.wiredpsyche.com/megan/gothicht.gif
The reason why HT employees are trained to stare is because they're memorizing your face in case you shoplift~ or you might just look strange to them. >_____<*** But, I know what you mean....

KaYoKitten

...I think the reason they stare at us is because...well, at least in MY town, hardly anybody EVER goes into Hot Topic. It's usually just one or two people ever in the store at one time. The employees have to be sooOOOOOoooo bored standing there all day with only a handful of people actually walking in. ^^;

I buy knick-knacks and journals from them. I LOVE their incense (it smells GREAT) and I got my own little incense burner from them. I can't fit their clothes, though. Why is it that they think the only people who want those kind of clothes are super-skinny?! T__T I finally lost enough weight to fit into Juniors again, but I still can't wear HT clothes...

I don't shop there too often, though, because the employees creep me out, too. There's gotta be something behind it all if we ALL notice how much they stare. o.0

^________^ Like I said, they are studying your face in case you shoplift. I wasn't kidding~ when I worked in a cd shop right after HS, that's one of the things we were trained to do. They're probably taking note of everyone coming in, and examining your hair, eyes, clothing, jewelery, etc. and they ask each customer if they need any help; especially to make sure the customers aren't helping themselves. XD I know its a rude tactic to all you honest people, but its meant to cut down theft in stores that are considered a high risk. That, and they're probably thinking you look really weird without piercing, tattoos, purple hair or dressed in black. :D neeeee

I find HT quite fun, although I was horrified to learn this:
Hot Topic is owned by the Gap.
The Gap controls what 'punk' clothes will be in style this fall, coincidentally just right to counter-match their own preppy style...
But I love those big heavy bondage pants; I, like someone else farther up, am not a stick figure, but in my branch at least, I can find several pairs of the heavy-denim pants that fit me.

last time i actually bought something from hot topic was a black flag t-shirt a few years ago. i then realized that i could've made one myself, out of a white t-shirt and a sharpie, and it would've been 100x more punk.

oh well... have to admire the business aspect though. as long as there are subcultures, there will be poseurs, and as long as there are poseurs, hot topic (or some simulacrum of hot topic) will exist to cater to their need for gigantic black pants made out of fabric that feels like burlap.

I've looked around in Hot Topic a few times but never bought anything. I like the clothes they have but I found the clothing to be a little overpriced (I'm really cheap when it comes to buying clothes). I never knew Hot Topic sold anime shirts and manga, I've never seen any of that stuff to the one I went to. If they did, I'd probably go over their more often to buy stuff.

I go in there sometimes with my friends to make fun of stuff. They have some pretty cool jewelry in there though. But I end up never buying anything.

Something really funny happened one day. I was at the mall with my mom and I told her I was going into Hot Topic for a little while and she yells, "No! That store is demonic!" It completely cracked me up. (Picture an adult with a Nigerian accent yelling that)

XD reminds me of my grandma walking by hot topic and going "that looks like the devil's store.."
and when you look inside, aside from a few chains and what have you, the clothing is quite normal. most of the chick tees you can find anywhere else. the bands tees are nice, but not worth the money in my opinion =/

the best tee they ever sold though was this JTHM tee my friend bought for me ^^

but anyways, i think its quite funny how people complain about stores. its just.. a store right? if you don't like it, don't go. no point in complaining about how much ya don't like it =/

I always wondered why anyone would want to weigh themselves down like that. It's hard enough to walk in general on some days after I've played tennis or something, I don't need the extra weight to make moving even more painful. I still don't understand why people go through so much trouble for clothes to be a goth or a prep.

Ladiofthelibrary

I personally love the pants; I'm not a goth, I'm a happy, hyper little bouncy thing, but I think that they're really comfortable and fun. Yes, they're a bit heavy, but I like the way they look and sit, and I have fun with the jangling chains. I'm not really a goth, or any label, I just wear what I like, and I like those pants^^
I also have a 'Mr. Bonejangles' hoodie from there that I got for a birthday.

Yeah and what if you're being chased by gang members. Might as well take what little time you have before the ass kicking begins to pray to what ever god you believe in. Of course if you don't believe in any god then just take the time to think about what you would want to eat while in intensive care.

Try telling *that* to this gothic community who likes to meet annually every Aug. in Disneyland , CA! (http://www.batsday.net/photos/mss/mss.htm) :D I think you might be a little limited in your concept of how the real lifestyle works. But, being part of the gothic lifestyle and community since I was 13--(I'm 40 now), I can assure you, not all are about the gloom & doom, boo-hoo-sadness. XD

Well, if you just like wearing them because you like them then that's ok but it annoys me how people try so hard to 'fit in' or be 'different'. Clothes don't place you anywhere really and I just prefer wearing something more light and comfortable. Easier to move around in (or run away in).

This is also why I don't wear skirts or dresses. Limited movement, such as today for example. I had to wear a tennis skirt (a skort-skirt/shorts techinically) because our team was doing school spirit since we were suppose to have a game today (got rained out). I was sitting on the floor and kicked my friend who was standing but then he grabbed my foot and tried to take off my shoe. I tried to keep my shoe and this led to an awkard position since I was in a skirt, luckily there are shorts underneath but still...I poked/beat him after that.

Everyone has such a fierce and complicated opinion about...EVERYTHING. We'll never know what ANYTHING truely means. But seriously, not stereo-typing because I don't know every Goth in the world, but ALL of the ones I'VE seen (I've seen...ok people? Not saying everyone under the title "Goth") are...well...pretty annoying. They wear obnoxious clothing just to get attention...and you can SEE that they're uncomfortable in the clothes by their facial expression. Every fall or winter (or when it's cold out) I ALWAYS see a DIFFERENT Goth girl wearing THE SAME see-through/fish-net contraption that's supposed to pass for a whole outfit. And I know they're cold. And when every Goth I've come across is asked their favorite color, they all say, "Black." or even "Red, because it's the color of blood." (or something like that) Oh please. Get over yourself.

I'm not gonna get into it too much. I'm just saying that all the Goths I've come across so far (which is a lot, once I think about it) are wrapped up in their "image." It's like they're robots all programmed to be the same thing..."individuals." How can you be unique...when you're exactly the same? Oxymoron.

But I did meet a nice Goth girl before named Jessica. :) She was cool.

nana0iro0miso

^ thats a stereotype i find not only among goths, but otaku, preps, and other group that wants to make themselves seem exclusive =). it makes it very hard to hold a conversation when they know everything about everything.

so its not something reserved only to goths =)

I knew a goth girl who was really nice, but I swear to God her hair was a different colour each month. One day her hair would be black and red, then the next day it would be blue. Actually come to think of it, I've never met a goth who kept their natural hair colour.

binaryzero
09-17-2006, 12:49 AM
^^ good point there

i agree but as nana pointed out, it's more than just "goths"

every stereotype, subculture, etc. has their "standard issue":
common fashion, music, speech, behaviour, and interests.

i mean take other chain stores.
zumiez for an easy example, tell me there isn't a "standard issue" skater teen for their target market? the store sells the music you "need" to complete yourself.

the world of retail relies 100% on 2 things in this world:

1.) weakminded humans
2.) a fierce marketing team

glittergal's observation i only find amusing because apparently she only sees hive behaviour in one stereotype. she somehow doesn't see that pattern all over mankind.

Just remember, if you don't like it, you can always cut it all off or dye it back to black. It all grows back~ and the two tone look is fun too. I think most people spend waaay too much time on how others might think about them ( I say who cares ) than just doing what they might really enjoy. I mean, really, what's it to them? Its *YOUR* hair.

it's another when you get things like rocks, bottles, and a hot cup of coffee thrown at you for your hair color.

i think if you do a good job with taking care of your hair, your hair will still be healthy in the long run. i have a few friends who are cosmotologists who do it without any problems, and my hair seems to be doing ok even though i've been dying it for 5 years now.
the thing that kills your hair is the bleach. if don't bleach it so often, your hair should be ok. but it also depends on your hair type. hmmm.. soo many factors..

I guess I'm lucky to appear more female than male now since I do like pink hair. >_____<*** Still~ I'm sick to death of US culture having a general stigma with the color pink. I mean they really tend to assign and associate pink to little girls *only*. The hell?

I wouldn't call myself a big fan of pink but... I like pink hair. No, my hair isn't pink (nor can I dye my hair for some strange reason. Bleach just doesn't work).

I saw a guy with a hot pink mohawk. It was the prettiest mohawk I've ever seen. :)

I have nothing against the sterotypical goth look. I love going dancing at goth night at the club and I dress up. My best friend sports a modern punk military goth lolita look. I can appriciate THAT. but hot topic... now that makes me cry. They try SO hard to appeal to too many sub genres, and thus they loose the people that are true to those genres and end up selling overly priced, cheaply made family guy t-shirts to preteens. What really cracks me up are their selection of apparel with the anarchy symbol on it. Can anyone taste the irony in the air? And besides, why don't people make their own clothes anymore? I know I do.

I personally make alot of my clothes, or get clothes from thrift shops and alter them. But once or twice a year, I DO go to Hot Topic to get myself little treats that I can't make. A Jack Sparrow shirt. Heavy-denim bondage pants. Cute underthings. They do have fun things, but, as they're owned by THE GAP, I do not consider them a 'punk' or 'goth' store. Just a fun one.

On another note: I have bright pink bangs that go to my shoulders, and just shaved the rest of my hair off two days ago. I do get yelled at and beat up and stuff for how I look, but it's how I choose to express myself. But i didn't get the color at HT. I got it at Sally's...

Before there was a mainstream Hot Topic (The Walmart of "alternative" shopping) nearly in every mall accross the country, there was an immodest 'lil shop in Melrose, CA. I used to go to named Retail Slut (http://retailslut.com/store_hist.html). It was one of the legendary spawning grounds to the L.A. punk/goth/underground scene and over the years it catered to the locals, bands and celebrities... Sadly, it closed in 2005. And with it closed a little piece of history and nostalgia. I'm still hoping to see it relocate~ but with the rent soaring in the choice locations in So.Cal. and the malls winning over the new gen with their one-stop convenience, its gotten harder for these privately owned specialty shops to endure the ever changing times.

all the speciality shops around here are even more expensive than hot topic. georgetown is ridiculous -_-; thrift stores around here are alright, but its rare that i find anything good. they have a better vinyl collection than clothing lol
so target and hechts clearance sections own my soul~ hot topic only owns an eye..

^ thats a stereotype i find not only among goths, but otaku, preps, and other group that wants to make themselves seem exclusive =). it makes it very hard to hold a conversation when they know everything about everything.

so its not something reserved only to goths =)

I don't really think so...

When you ask preps, gangstas, skaters...etc. "What is your favorite color?" They don't all say the same colors. And they don't all wear the same outfits. But when you see a lot of Goth people all at once (or at least from my experience) they all look the same. They're all wearing black and their hair is different colors or in an eccentric style.

I don't know why you mentioned stereo-types among Otaku. Seriously...I don't know any Otaku who looks the same or looks like they're "supposed" to be an Otaku. I don't fit into an Otaku stereo-type and judging from the member pics posted up...a lot of people on this site don't either. Everyone looks different, different hairstyles, different clothes...

I think what I said before...is just reserved to Goths.

Not all~ some like to wear all white. I just know as an artist I started wearing all black at age 12 because I got so sick of getting my india ink all over my clothes. >______<*** That was before all the "gothic" movement stuff actually hit L.A. Black goes with any color and eccentric style my hair might be cut or dyed in. :D But, I wouldn't say all Gothic people look the same just because the color of choice tends to be black. Even if the the clothing is black, its usually a unique style/design, so, its not like we're all wearing the same cookie-cut uniform. Many in fact, try to make their own clothing designs because many of us don't like what is offered at mainstream clothing stores. Most hair is designed by the wearer themselves and not just chosen from some hair-cut book at supercuts.
Our individual personalities, style & designs we choose to wear makes us genuinely unique amongst each other. You might only see black, but I see something beyond that is a unique and creative individual. =)

gangsta stereotype - they wear retardly huge white or black tees, baggy pants, ice or "bling" and you should never step on their shoes.

preps - all shop at american eagle or hollister. nuff said.

otaku - are know-it-alls that play ddr obsessively. often compared to star trek geeks.

there's a stereotype for everything, trust me, i went through high school. i was stereotyped as a goth just for not talking to people, which is probably the most retarded thing in the world.

all i'm saying is that stereotypes are ignorant. and if you honestly believe that goths are the only stereotypes, then i probably can't convince you otherwise, but marinating all these stereotypes on this board is just stupid, and i hope it all stops soon.

also, i hope you don't think that anyone who wears just all black is a goth. cause that would be a bad assumption to make.

Yeah...since you're involved in the whole Goth movement- you see it differently. You see all the small details that make it look different in your eyes. But for someone like me, who isn't a part of it and really knows nothing about it...it all looks the same. Black clothing. Often parachute pants with a lot of chains. Different colored hair-styles...all the same. Now...if I were to LOOK for the details...that'd be a different story. I'm just trying to tell you what it looks like from the outside.

You wore white before? That's great. I would love to see a Goth in all white. Lol.

Hmm...I never said that. I wear all black sometimes and I'm not Goth. You can tell who is and who isn't...I don't think I need to explain it to you.

And you misunderstood me...I didn't say Goths were the only stereo-types. I just said the whole "what is your favorite color?" thing...and how they all wear one color is reserved to them.

Of course there are other stereo-types. But Gangstas don't all wear the same colors. Their styles tend to vary more and some gangstas are even into skate-boarding. A lot of gangstas at my school play Yu-Gi-Oh for crying out loud. Not every preppy girl's favorite color is pink. Some like baby blue or purple. And I'm an Otaku...though I like DDR, I don't play it obsessively and I don't know any anime characters' favorite food or most used phrase. Do you get me?

There are many stereo-types but from what I see, I think the "Goth" one is more...what's the phrase I'm looking for? Right. "Doesn't vary as much as the others."

But I don't like stereo-types either. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll ever get rid of them any time soon. I think it's human nature.

Parachute pants with a lot of chains? Sounds more like gangsta mall wear which isn't the traditional gothic attire. That's just some of the more recent fashion trends. The traditonal gothic wear is going to thrift shops and buying something 30 to 50+ years old and altering it to one's taste. And then there's Poet shirts and leather boots with silver skull buckles,or silver bats, velvet and black lace & striped stockings. >____<*** I'm more of a Victorian goth or as some might call it now EGL (Elegant Gothic Lolita) , for me, its mostly the velvet and lace. ^____~ I never wore all white, its a little too showy for me. But there's others who do, and some even accent it with white angel wings, etc. There's plently of white patent leather corsettes, or boots, etc. to accent themselves with. Its ok though, I know what you mean when you think all gothic people look the same~ I feel the same way when I look at all the norms. I don't pay much attention to them since they're not wearing anything I find interesting or creative so they all look like faceless giant beige blurs in the background to me. ^________^****

There are many stereo-types but from what I see, I think the "Goth" one is more...what's the phrase I'm looking for? Right. "Doesn't vary as much as the others."

I think this is due to the fact that as Goths we know what we like, and it happens to be very specific/similar likes. If you look at the Gothic movement from the 1980's to the present, you'd find that its almost unchanged. All I know is, I'd rather know what I like than be fickled, confused and constantly searching for what I like all the time. ^________^

I agree with Tavisha. I too am into the gothic lolita experience, and look nothing like what you are talking about, yet my style is still considered gothic. There are as many "gothic" subgenres as there are subgenres to ANY style. Just because you can't tell the difference and think they all look alike doesn't mean the difference isn't there. Someone outside of the otaku lifestyle might think that they all look the same but you obviously would disagree with that. That's becuase you know more and might be a part of the style and YOU can tell the difference. Stereotypes exist to serve a purpose, to make it easier to group people that you don't personally understand.

Just the thought of wearing all white totally makes me feel uncomfortable~its just too bright. ^_________^*** But I do think its pretty on others. For me, its not about standing out at all~ What most goths want is to be able to dress how they want and be left alone. I know its hard for many who aren't into the scene to understand we do not do this for attention. We do this mainly for personal expression and creative reasons and mainly because WE LIKE IT. I can't name one person in the goth community who enjoys strangers mocking or bashing them just because of the way they look~ I repeat, we rather be left alone~ And I'd rather be invisible most of the time, but until there's a scientific method for that, I'll just have to wear black velvet.

to say you "don't look for the details", it sounds better and more accurate if you say you prefer to make statements with zero knowledge behind them. :)

if 5 and a half foot tall, 350 pound women can wear stirrup pants with the word "juicy" across their ass with no hassle from the public, i should be allowed to have pink hair without mockery.

I went to the Town Centre today. Turns out the store I went to wasn't Hot Topic but West 49. I don't know why I got the two mixed up. I guess this means we don't have Hot Topic in Canada. :(

...for the most part i don't think my friends can tell cause a.) it's really dark in there...and b.) they all have creepy contacts in -_-'

I don't think it's all that dark.
And I've never come across anyone wearing any "creepy" contacts. In fact the people I come across at Hot Topic are fairly... Well they look human. :)

binaryzero
12-19-2006, 12:08 AM
see that's the trick! they appear human.

i really think they grow their own consumers sometimes,
so many young kids come out of there looking like they were rolled off a scene assembly line.

i know that's not the case for all customers, but i find the ones that only shop there kinda eerie. (not in a "goth" way, more like a "there's more than one shop in this world" kinda way.)

hot topic is pretty awesome, they used to carry sailor moon mangas and SMILE. tis a shame they don't anymore =/

aint that the truth. honestly hot topic used to be cooler about 10 years ago but i was also much younger and impressionable. now a days i go there for cheap platform boots and fluffy skirts. their attempt at gothic lolita is a disgrace, they have been rejected by most sub cultures like punk and goth but if you don't care about that crap (like me) then its a good place to find affordable "unique" clothing, as well as posters and other accessories. just don't overdo it with the crappy tripp pants and arm warmers or you'll be labled a poser, let's be real here.

dark?
the locations in my neck of the woods are as brightly lit as any of store in the malls.

and oh man they wear those wild eye contacts?
that would be like me holding a retail job in my zombie makeup, just way too over the top to intimidate and look "spooky".

well Honey, i think it's official: you have the lamest hot topic in the country near you.

lmao, if you think Mall Of America is lame, then yes, yes i do >.<

but seriously, the one closer to me is ALWAYS dark!! And this one worker [whom i'd swear lives there, cause she is there every time i go] wears these milky white contacts with dark blue around the edge, and blue pupils...and they reflect no light...so you can't tell wear she is looking o.O;

but the Hot Topic in MOA is pretty dark too, not to mention cramped...and one lady there has cat eye contacts >_< (why is it the female workers have the funny contacts?!!)

I work there in the summertime; hot topic is pretty much the bomb because we get good benefits, of course that isn't exactly a publically shared love, lol. The prices are a little high in my personal opinion, this coming from an actual employee who gets 40% off, but the stuff you get there is unique and unavailable otherwise, in my opinion. Especially Tripp gear. This is, of course, if you don't live in california, where every good fashion provider in the U.S resides.

Lol, ya. There are two kinds of hottopics and they call them Darkstreet and Lightstreet (when I heard that, I made this face::confused: ) But the one I work at is in the Galleria Mall in Dallas so its lightstreet and there's happy colors everywhere and people come in looking confused and alarmed. Then right down the street is a darkstreet store, which carries the big pants you could fit two people in. Which I think are...interesting. I like the lightstreet stores a little better...

I like their selection of anime clothing that's in black, and they always have cool anime toys...
The people in there just give you the scariest looks though. I just kinda keep my head down and grab what I want. Online shopping is another option...
The Hot Topic around here is kinda well lighted. I can see what I'm trying to find, although...
EVERYTHING IS SO HIGH UP.
Me being 5'1", I can't reach anything unless it's on the 2 racks closest to the floor, and if it's on the next rack, I wait for a good moment, and then I jump and knock what I want down. The salespeople always glare at me when they have to use those poles to get something higher up...

Yeah, most of the good stuff IS on the ground, which is good. Very good. Once though, I found a purple shirt with Yuki from Fruits Basket looking pretty bishouneny. It was on the highest rack up. I must of had a "Are You Kidding?" look on my face, because a salesperson came over to me...

I used to like Hot Topic a lot, but I've pretty much stopped shopping there. Their clothing quality really sucks now, everything is super expensive, and I don't like the styles. When I walk into the store it's always blisteringly hot, they have horrible music cranked up really loud, it smells funky, and I have to wait about a half an hour if I want to buy something because the staff is always no where to be found. They used to have a lot of really awesome things though. Now I only go in there if theres a really cool shirt I want or something (like when they were selling the Dir en Grey shirts, and some of the anime shirts).

Now I usually just buy my shirts on the internet (which is rare), at concerts, or buy my pants somewhere cheap. I don't really mind too much though since I very rarely buy clothes.

hot topic = over priced and bad quality clothing.
having a local fetish shop that sells lip serivice clothing and hot topic. i know that lip serivice's line for hot topic is a lower quality than what they sell on line and at the said local fetish shop.
the only time i buy things from the store is when the clearnece is 50%off.
torrid (plus sized store same comp. as ht) is just as bad in quality. after wearing a shrit a few times the seam in the 3/4 sleave opened from elbow to arm pit.

I like Hot Topic to an extent, but you're not really getting a worthy investment when you spend so much money on their clothes - they don't last very long since they are cheaply made. If I see something interesting in there that's fairly cheap i'll pick it up, but other than that it's not that great of a clothing store.

I just find it quite amusing that many mall-goers are scared of the workers at the store when a vast majority of them are really nice people.

KebaSiRota

I actually kinda like Hot Topic. I got a lot of stuff from there like this Naruto jacket and gloves, a Superman shirt, and a Linkin Park shirt (on clearence for $5). I also got my friend a Green Day necklace and a H.I.M. bandana. The first time I ever heard of Hot Topic was when my friend gave me this Bon Jovi shirt with a skull on it (I'm not a big fan of skulls, but if it says "Bon Jovi" on it, chances are that I'll wear it).

I also like Torrid which is kind of like Hot Topic for plus-sized women. Yeah, the stuff there is kind of cheaply made, but the clothes I bought there look cool and have held up for me pretty well. I especially like this pair of really baggy black pants that I got there because they hide my feet so no one can tell when I'm not wearing shoes. But I only know of two Torrid stores around where I live, and they're both like an hour's drive away.

Don’t worry you aren't really missing anything. Picture a store about the same size as a small garage decorated in gothic nouveaux (chandelier, candelabra etc). The walls are painted black and there are blood red swaths of cloth hung about to add to the ambience. The majority of the time they are playing something angry over the speakers which only further ads to the dark and brooding nature of the store. They specialize in niche clothing. I.E. 'gothic' or poorly made period recreations of poet’s shirts, dresses with corset tops, capes. They also carry a lot of classic video game related merchandise, for the dedicated gamers who want to show their pride, and finally they carry quite a bit of anime related merchandise as well. T-shirts and the like. Their clothing is poorly made, overpriced and their selection sucks. Oh they also sell music. Anything they carry could be found on the internet for cheaper and taking into account that you don’t have to set foot in the store even waiting a week for your package isn’t that bad.

Then get a job and buy your own clothes, you bum.

It's not that I don't want to get a job, it's that I can't. There's no place around me that hires 14-year-olds... xD

I like Hot Topic, some of the stuff is pretty cool, but completely overpriced. I could make that stuff for at least half of what they sell it for. As for the music they play, some of it is alright, but a lot of it does suck. The people there don't really stare at me (YAY) so I don't have that problem. I like that they are getting more anime related things in there.

True. Might try babysitting. D:

So like, Hot Topic stopped selling Manic Panic hair dye I think and now they're selling this RAW stuff that's total crap. D:< My friend tried to use it and they don't even give you enough to do half you're hair with (even if you have short hair). It's got some other issues too. I'm thinking of boycotting Hot Topic since I'm no longer boycotting FYE....>.>

Personally for me I like Hot Topic, there are things now that I read other's people comments about this store now that makes me not fully like it that much now. I still do but like for example. Hot Topic is own by Gap?! How weird is that. I mean for me Gap's clothes are so tasteless! Nothing there makes my eyes go, "Ohh I like!" Also how the employee's are trained to stare at you to see if you steal and what not?! No wonder no one ever goes in there. Think about it.. I think if a Hot Topic is in a mall, it be the least store people go into. Even the book store probably has more costumers than Hot Topics. Don't get me wrong though. Some of their t-shirts are good. I don't get the pants though. So friggin huge and so much chains. Do you really want to add more weight to your own body? I know it looks cool but....yeah. What else...oh yeah how come the store smells so weird???!!!O_o o_o *laughs* very odd. Some metioned that their music that plays in the background is crappy. IDK about that. Maybe it's because when ever I go in there I don't pay attention to it. The last time I went to Hot Topic was actually just last Wed at a mall. I bought a CD there that I couldn't find in the FYE store in the mall. It was cheap too. The CD is the latest Within Temptation CD that came out this year and it was only $10 something. I think that's a good price. Any ways yeah. I like the store but don't like the staring of the employee's and the weird smell. Actually now that I remember when I was looking at all the CD's one of the employees actaully walked up next to me, tilted a little to give a good look at what I was doing or was looking at me. It can be annoying... One more thing to add, is it me or does different Hot Topic stores sell different things. If my eyes are deciving me I swear the store I go to does not have boots. IDK.

I've never been stared at like I was going to steal something in Hot Topic. I like that they have some fun anime things and the goofy t-shirts. The clothes have decent sale prices and I have found the employees to be very nice and helpful. I've never had to return anything, so I don't know how they are with that.

Are you saying that you commonly get stared at like you were going to steal something from other stores? XP

I like that Hot Topic has a decent variety of Gaming / Anime attire and always updates with something new. :3

Are you saying that you commonly get stared at like you were going to steal something from other stores? XPUm, no. But there were posts above mine saying that the employees stare at them as if they are stealing and that the employees are even taught to do this? So I was just adding that it has not happened to me.

Ew, I get that look all the time.
And not just at Hot Topic, since I don't really shop there anymore. Or just from store employees either, for that matter.

I just don't get that smell you get once you walk in to a Hot Topic store. Do they actually perpously make the store smell weird?

Usually they have a bunch of incense in the back, and they have some air fresheners for cars and such in there too, and some perfumes. That probably explains the smell. Plus, every Hot Topic I've been in was really warm from the lights and stuff, so it probably smells a bit like BO in there too from all the smelly mallrats. :P

I would like Hot Topic if they didn't make really really bad imitations of other fashions that silly children think is the real thing. Or if their stuff wasn't immensely overpriced. Or even if they didn't pay some of their employees to go to shows and see what every one else was wearing so they could copy what's 'cool' and sell it.

I know about that smell too.
It's on the merch (mostly clothes and the plastic bags they give you).

HOT TOPIC rocks ass man. My mom doesn't let me go in there with her because she's trying to get me away from the emo/punk scene. I'm resisting her attempts.
Although, my dad will let me go in there, but he doesn't particularly like it. But hey, at least he lets me buy stuff. I bought my friend Ashley gloves from there.
Once I get a job and a car, I'm gonna shop there all the time...Here I come platform boots and black pants, and band shirts and all the awesome stuff there.

o...k....
Hot Topic is just seriously overrated. Their stuff is made of bad quality material, and is pretty much just sold for the design of it. Wear it in some rough weather and it'll get damaged pretty badly. There goes your 20 bucks.
I think the GOOD stores that sell that type of apparel are all downtown...but I haven't built up the courage to go.

Only $20? I can't seem to find any apparel in there under $30 besides the t-shirts. And most of their mens' T's are of average quality.

Wait...yea...the last time I went, it was about 29.00 a shirt. My mother touched the band tees and said it was unworthy material, and that they were pretty much selling it because there were wusses like me that would buy it for the print.

Tajtan

Yeah, but you can't always find the print elsewhere. And their t-shirts are better quality than the tissue t-shirts at Hollister or Abercrombie & Fitch that are $25 or $29 and only sport their own logo.
