WE all know they are made up of the four talented people: Tsubaki Nekoi, ageha Ohkawa, Satsuki Igarashi and Mokona Apapa..
I hope I can get to know them better though...

Clamp is awesome! They were my idols when I was all gungho about wanting to be a Manga-ka. Sadly I have little or no art talent.

I've never seen any pictures of CLAMP group before. I never bothered to look. o_O Thanks for sharing! (And that dog is huge!)
Anyway, I like Wish, xxxHolic, Tsubasa, Legal Drug, and Chobits. There are a few series, like CLAMP School Detectives or the one with the kid in the mask that I didn't really enjoy...

Ohh Clamp is cool.. i have Chobits Complete, The Legend OF Chun Hyang and i gonna start reading vol 4 of Tsubasa RC tomorrow.
I dont find it a problem that Delrey and Tokyopop have some manga of them allthough the delrey ones are a bit more expensive and sometimes they dont use the same names.. Tokyopop writes Chun Hyang and Delrey writes Chu'Nyan so yeah which is correct?! LOL but the series are great anyway so it doesnt really matter.. Ohh annd Fai is soo funny and Mokona..aw i want Mokona as a pet :p
What i also find cool about Clamp is that none of the art looks the same. With other mangaka you can see who did the art sometimes but for clamp you cant see that right away

Clamp is awesome. They have a several different art styles and I love how some of their story lines intersect (or different characters from different series show up in other stories) like Clamp School and X/1999. I'm hoping X/1999 continues soon. I heard they had to stop because it was getting too violent? I thought it was fine; we are talking about the fate of the world, you know.
I also heard they were coming to America this summer, but which convention they haven't said. I would love to meet them.

I'm a fan of CLAMP as well. Thanks for posting the pictures, I've never seen them before :).
From the TOKYOPOP (http://www.tokyopop.com/dbpage.php?propertycode=AGL&categorycode=BMG) website:
In the future, the most popular game in the world is Angelic Layer. Contestants must raise and train their own 'Angels' (or fighting dolls) to compete in tournaments. Enter Misaki Suzuhara, sixth grade Angelic Layer prodigy. With her speed-type angel, Hikaru, many people think Misaki stands a chance at winning the championship. She'll have a lot of help along the way, but the road to victory will be not be an easy route, especially for someone as young as Misaki.
Volume 1 summary:
12-year-old Misaki is beginning school in Tokyo. Upon arriving in the city she spots a competition being broadcast called Angelic Layer - the latest high tech battle game fought by using dolls (Angels). Enchanted with one of the Angels she sees fighting, Misaki is inspired to create her own Angel and it leads her on an adventure that she never in her wildest dreams would have thought possible!
Now Misaki has entered the tournament with her doll, Hikaru, and together they plan to take the sport by storm!
I hope that helps, I haven't read it, so I can't give my opinion on it^^.
Thank you very much, it does help, and I think I will get it. Today I got myself a CLAMP artbook, nl. Southside. It was on sale so I haven't been too bad. But then again, now I'll want the Northside book as well. Maybe next month!:D

CLAMP's going to Anime Expo, so I can imagine that's a definate incentive for thousands of people internationally to come meet them.
I like a lot of CLAMP's works, like Chobits, Cardcaptor Sakura, XxxHolic, Tsubasa: Reservior Chronicle, and Magic Knight Rayearth. I'll have to look into X someday, I've heard good things about it from people.
I love how detailed CLAMP's artwork and stories are. The stories make you think about things, and aren't shallow and sappy. Out of the works I've read by them, I'd have to say that Chobits is my favorite. It's so sweet and romantic, without being overly sappy.
I haven't read the last set of 6 books from Cardcaptor Sakura though, so my opinion could change when I see how it ends.

Clamp are by far my fav manga artists! I am slowing collceting all their manga i can find (except for Clover, which i guess is out of print *foof*!). My fav series of their is definalty cardcaptors, but i also like Tsubasa, xxxHolic, Magic Knights Rayearth, and Chobits. Not too keen on Miyuki-chan in Wonderland. I think my next series to start will be Legal Drug and Tokyo Babalon.

Quick question:
I started reading Chobits WAY back when, heard the ending was SUPER predictable, so I stopped.
SO then I wanted to start another Clamp series*couldnt remember which one* but I heard that in order to read ANY clamp new release, you have to had read ALL clamp releases. Apparently, they intertwine.
Fact or Myth?

That's more myth than fact although there is a little truth in that statement.
The series you're talking about are probably Tsubasa Reserve Chronicles (TRC) and XXXHolic. Those 2 series interwine their storylines. In order to understand the full picture, it's best to read both series. You can probably read only one or the other. But they're really intended to be read together. They're crossover series.
The statement that you have to read ALL of CLAMP's releases probably comes from the fact that some of TRC's major characters were originally in Cardcaptor Sakura (CCS). TRC takes several CCS characters and puts them into an alternate universe. You don't have to have read CCS in order to appreciate TRC. But you get some of the in-jokes and references better if you know how CCS played out.
In addition, there are cameo appearances in both TRC and XXXHolic by characters from prior CLAMP releases. When you come across such a cameo, if you don't recognize the character, you'll just think its a walk-on role in essence. (This happened to me when reading Legal Drug which has a cameo appearance by characters from Suki. At the time, I didn't know the Suki characters and just thought they were random people on the street. The story still worked fine even though I didn't know who they were.)
To sum up, while I would recommend reading TRC and XXXHolic simultaneously, you don't have to had read all of CLAMP's previous releases in order to enjoy either of those books. They stand on their own.

CLAMP does rock, though I do have to ask...they have sooo many series right? And they look so young....how does this work out? Oooh, I love their camoes and how if you look closely in the background you see things. Also how in Xxxholic, the people who work at the grocerey store are the main characters of Legal Drug. It makes me happy!

Ahh, CLAMP. Where to begin? Their art was what first sucked me in, but I'm a more literary person from the very beginning. What really amazes me are the storylines. I'm really amazed by the amount of research that goes into making their stories. I mean, just looking at X, you've got so much lying beneath the surface with research about the Apocolypse, etc, etc.
So how long did it take you guys to figure out that Kamui and friends are basically the bad guys of the story? ( I had to have it pointed out to me, but then I was like, "Duh! Hellooo." They're pretty much bashing us over the head getting us to realize that. ) The Apocolypse is supposed to be a good thing, according to the Bible, but Kamui is trying to stop it, isn't he?
Anyways. Just with that little bit, if you really look out on the web, you can find some pretty good essays about their storylines and parallels with their characters, along with their art.

I'm not qualified to answer that question, SasuNaru. (In other words, I dunno. I haven't read either story.) My guess is that a reader doesn't need the information in order to understand the story, but if the reader knows that information, the story takes on an additional meaning. But I'm just guessing on that, so don't quote me.

Have you read any CLAMP that you recommend?
LKK6144
04-27-2006, 08:03 PM
I recommend all CLAMP that I've read. :D
Legal Drug (3 volumes, unfinished) is good for supernatural mysteries and definite Boys Love hints.
Cardcaptor Sakura (12 volumes, finished) is a magical girl story that even non-fans of magical girl stories (like me) can enjoy. There are a lot of unconventional relationships among the characters that make this one much more than a conventional magical girl story.
Wish (4 volumes, finished) is pure, unadulterated romance. Luscious drawings. Mostly sweet but there are some spicy characters to keep it from being saccarine.
Suki (3 volumes, finished) was written expressly to explore an unconventional romantic relationship. CLAMP likes to feature unconventional romances in their side-characters, but Suki featured one as the main storyline. In this case, it's a female high-school student and her male homeroom teacher who might be more than he seems. Another romance tale but one that's about keeping innocence as much as it is about romance. (I read somewhere that Suki is the only CLAMP work that does not involve magic or supernatural forces in any form.)
I haven't read CLAMP's more recent popular entries (XXXHolic, Tsubasa Reserve Chronicles, Tokyo Babylon) because I've been sidetracked into other manga for the moment. But I fully intend to read them eventually. I'm sure that after I read them, I'll be happy to recommend them as well.
(Hm, I feel like I've forgotten to list a CLAMP book that I've read. *shrugs* Oh, well. Old age is catching up with me.)

I fell in love with [the way they draw] their eyes in Cardcaptor Sakura. You can drown in them from my opinion... -sigh-... really bugged me in Tsubasa RESERVoir CHRoNiCLES when their bodies were bony (yeah, yeah, remake of Egypt or summat) so that they didn't seem as alive and real, and their eyes were hard like they didn't exude love.
I love CCS but what bugs me in TRC is I think after many years difference between the end of CCS and TRC, or the new storyline, despite the alternate universe, Sakura and Syaoran's personalities aren't quite the same.
By the way, today's Ageha Ohkawa's B-day!

They only have plans to come to Los Angeles for Anime Expo, and that visit is now complete and they have no plans to go anywhere else in the U.S. It's not likely that they'll return anytime soon, but if they do I'd bet they'd come to somewhere on the East Coast, Otakon perhaps.
No pictures were allowed at the Clamp panel at AX, sorry ^^
From the pictures they showed at the panel, it seemed evident that they do all of their inking by hand. Ohkawa was the only one with a computer in her workstation, all the rest just had tons of inking pens and Copic color markers and such.

Are you sure its a misspelling? because I've seen it listed in the dictionaries. Granted, its gotta be a comprhensive version to show up, but its there. Originally either a UK or british word, i forget. Not to mention in either Dukylon or Clamp campus detectives the teacher explains the meaning of Clamp during a lesson of sorts...

I think Clamp is awesome. Their artwork is great and my favorite series by them is X/1999!!! I realy love the extremly dark, tragic storyline and the characters. I wish i could draw as good as them :D

I love CLAMP works. I like to say I'm a fangirl. Hehe ^^;. I have to say I love Tokyo Babylon, X/1999, and Card Captor Sakura. Personally, I hate the artwork of Xxxholic/Tsubasa. Plus the eyes of the Persecoms/Chobits, but all is forgive when I look at the manga artwork of their other series.
Plus the fact that I love the pictures of Kotori and Tomoyo. So ethereal...*/ ramblings*

Clamp is really good, but they are leaning towards the shonen-ai side now, but the art is still great. :D

Now? XD They've been doing that since they started and even before. The manga that they debuted with, RG Veda, has subtext too. XD
