dredg.
Best band I've heard in years. I'd recommend starting with the Lietmotif album, and then el cielo, and finally Catch Without Arms.

Listen to "Of The Room" and see if you like them or not.

I really like the Arctic Monkeys. They're a really awesome British band. If you like reggae Matisyahu is cool and if you like Coldplay-type rock I highly recommend Death Cab for Cutie. They kick royally.

Glad to see another dredg fan around the boards. ;)

There are some differences between Lietmotif and Catch Without Arms, but I love them all.
There's a huge difference between the Orph EP and their latest stuff, though. It's strange ...

Another recommendation: Sigur Ros
Very awesome and creative band.

Highly suggest Metallica and Megadeth. The two bands are phenominal and kick any other metal bands ass, foreign or local. (Actually, a lot of bands kick the foreign bands ass)

DragonForce and Slipknot are awesome if you like fast and unpredictable stuff. Green Day, The Ramones, Buzzcocks, The Sex Pistols, Dead Boys, and The Clash are some of the best punk bands ever, so give them a shot. Smashing Pumpkins and Weezer are awesome as well if you like some clever stuff.

If you like classical music like Mozart and Bach, then go for AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, KISS, Motley Crue, Def Leppard, and Van Halen. Some of the best classical bands you will ever hear.

Other bands like Firewind, Iron Maiden, Tool, Avenged Sevenfold, Jimi Hendrix, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Voltaire, Guns 'N' Roses, Black Label Society, Living Colour, Atreyu, Lamb Of God, Alter Bridge, The Police, Queen, Rob Zombie, Radiohead, Staitc-X, and Pink Floyd are also great to listen to. If you want to start off right, get Pink Floyd's Darkside Of The Moon. Easily one of the best albums ever made.

If you get into AC/DC and Motley Crue, then check out Airbourne and Black Tide. They are the future of music as we know it.

you can listen to Radiohead and if you like them you might like Sigur Ros (once the most original bands right now). if you want something darker and just as original, listen to some Throbbing Gristle, Skinny Puppy, or Whitehouse. This bands are as original as you can possibly get.

Try world music! Explore musical styles, musicians and performances beyond what's being offered in the United States, and even in Japan, right now. It's not good to stagnate in your musical taste, especially not when there's so, SO much great stuff out there. ;)

I follow, if not listen to, the following musicians myself: Bjork, Sigur Ros, The Corrs, Clazziquai Project, Zero 7, Take That, Angela Aki, Jill-Decoy Association, Monday Michiru, Orange Pekoe, Core of Soul, Eri Nobuchika, The Eraserheads, Parokya ni Edgar, Up Dharma Down, Pizzicato Five, Depapepe, Ringo Shiina and her band Tokyo Jihen, Mondo Grosso, Bird, Sade, Basia, Everything But The Girl, Erykah Badu, Enya, Beastie Boys, Beauty's Confusion, Low, Supreme Beings of Leisure, Sarah MacLachlan, Moony, Sophie Ellis Bextor, Chubibo, and Sugarfree
