And as far as a Manga author...I'd have to say that I really love Natsuki Takaya, Furuba is the best fantasy I've read so far.

For anime, not sure... I haven't watched many of Miyazaki's movies (please don't flame me for saying that!).
For manga though, I have a major admiration for Yuu Watase, I fell in love with her and her work when I first read Fushigi Yugi.

You should, you won't regret it! Only thing is there is some nudity and other things making her work for older audiences, so if you're younger at all, not recommended you go with her ;).

^ Tanemura-sensei is also one of my favorites (although the only manga I read was Full Moon :p)! I've also read Zodiac P.I. from Ando-sensei, which wasn't a bad series either.

Hayao Miyazaki is so brilliant and amazing! Not to mention the folks behind Cowboy Bebop. I admire all of them and hope that one day I can create something special and ground-breaking like they did.

Currently on the stalking list, ;) we have:
Shinchirow Watanabe ( The man behind Cowboy Bebop and Samurai champloo. He's got style. )
Hayao Miyazaki ( king of japanese animation )
Masashi Kishimoto ( He puts a lot of passion into his work and it shows. )
Kazuya Minekura ( She's ... incredible ... :D )
Katsuhiro Otomo ( He practically put his whole life into Akira. How can you not admire that? )
Mamoru Oshii ( Same as Otomo. A real perfectionist. And he doesn't cheat - like when directors drag or "hold" shots - not really animating a thing. It's cheating! It's not allowed! )

I admire patara, she does beautiful art. Patara is also super nice! I told her how much I loved her art in a fan E-mail, which, I kind of regret becasue I don't like acting all fan crazy, it sometimes can casue bad problems to the famous people. Well, anyways, she said that she really apriceated it, and if I gave her my address she would send me a poster. She signed it and everything! it's now my prized posesstion.
Patara does ads that appear in newtype. I haven't had a newtype sence last year, so I really don't know if it has her stuff still. She also does the art for the "avatar" trading card I think I might actually buy them, just for the art, I don't care that much for the show.

I admire Natsuki Takaya-sensei alot, since she was the reason I draw manga these days. I also admire Tite Kubo-sensei because I love his use of action in manga. And finally I admire Gosho Aoyama for his use of mystery in a manga. That's why my manga (Takaya-sensei) contains both action (Kubo-sensei) and mystery (Aoyama). ^^
For the moment, Ai Yazawa... fantastic stories and her art's so fresh and modern. <3

Does it have to be someone from Japan? Because I'm in love with Bettina's MCL artwise and storywise and Rivkah's writing.
Japan-wise, I love Tite Kubo and Yuu Watase especially.
Deviating from there, I love my friend Paul Duffield/Spoonbard's work. (Hi Paul~~ It's Beth/alwz...I changed my s/n! Get to work! I'm working on getting work! X3) I can't wait for his book to get published. And then there's Maruice Sendak I worship and Bill Watterson, too. Then in classical art, I've liked ElGreko, VanGoh, and Monet all for various reasons.
I admire too many people, and find too many influences everywhere. <3

I have to say I'm a Miyazaki fan as well. His vision just amazes me. For manga, I have to say... I dunno, but I think whoever wrote early yaoi fiction, before it was popular. It took real guts for whoever started it to do so, even in a more liberal country such as Japan. And many of us are much the better for it... ^ ^

Yuu Watase and Ai Yazawa are my two most admired manga-ka. They've both had multiple series translated and published in the US, and made into animes. I've loved every series of their's that I've read so far.

I admire many. For the American voice overs, Crispin Freeman and Billy Crystal (Calcifer) inspired me to become a voice over. It looks like a lot of work, but also a great deal of fun. As a side job, I'd enjoy it. =]
Oh, I don't know. Naoko Takeuchi, Hayao Miyazaki, Hisaya Nakajo and the lady who does Fruits Basket (I can't think of her name).

First of all, Miyazaki, simply because he's Miyazaki. His movies are amazing.
For manga, I have to say Ishinomori Shoutarou/Shotaro and Tezuka Osamu because they are legends. They've created dozens of classics that have influenced later works. For more modern artists, definitely Kouga Yun and Yuki Kaori. Especially Yuki Kaori. Her artwork is gorgeous. I kind of admire Watase Yuu's artwork, but to be perfectly honest, I think she makes her characters fall in love with each other too fast. That kind of ruins her books for me. :\
I guess he fits in both manga and anime, but ABe yoshitoshi. I love his artwork, especially in Serial Experiments Lain. Lain is one of my favorite characters of all time.
Kanno Yoko is a really good composer, and she's famous in the industry for that reason, but I'm head over heels for Kajiura Yuki. I mean...wow. When you add all of the songs she's composed for anime, FictionJunction YUUKA (and the others), See-Saw, etc., I just think it's incredible. And when you add YUUKA or Ishikawa Chiaki's voice into her works...

OMG! That's what I was going to say as well. Miyazaki inspired me to go into animation but Takaya-sensei inspired me to become a manga-ka. I love making manga, especially since I have total control over the story. I hope one day my manga will touch hearts like Natsuki Takaya's Fruits Basket has touched mine.:biglaugh: As for fictional in the anime/manga world I admire Tohru Honda for the kind hearted person she is.
