What musical instruments do you own/and or play? and how did you learn?

I own a keyboard, though I don't really play it, and a violin that is in bad need of being fixed ~~;;; I am self teaching myself how to play my violin by listening to songs and imitating them with mine. It could be successfull if I can get it fixed sometime soonishy.

I'm a bassist. Tought myself for a while, now I get lessons. I also play a bit of guitar (self taught) although I'm not very good at it, keyboard (mostly self taught. Got a few lessons from my mum when I was about 5.) and I play Irish Tin Whistle:p I keep meaning to give Harmonica a try as well.

WOOO! Tin whistle, urgh, we used to have to constantly play it in primary school, the sound just really hurt after a while

You can say that again. It's not quite so bad as recorder, but it's definately ear-bleedingly annoying. However playing through traditional Irish ballads is a greta way to get folk to leave you alone...

I love playing and listening to music, I've played the piano but I quit due to a bad teatcher and never got myself togather to pick it up again, even sold my piano, which is a shame... I miss it :(

Atm, I'm mostly playing the guitar, been playing for a while now, in the beginning my dad thought me but later I moved on to teatching myself, knowing quite a bit of music teori from my piano days :)

This is going to sound bizarre, but I play the sanshin/Okinawan shamisen, which looks like this:

I've played for about 2-3 years, but I'm only -ok- because I don't get too much time to practice because I'm so busy.

I play guitar, drums, and a little bit of bass.
I'm the guitarist of a local band. We mostly play 'progressive rock' type music, but genres are stupid. I've never liked the idea of classifying a band into a certain genre

Anywho, I took guitar lessons for a couple of years and drums for about 6 months, but most of it is self taught.

Usually, I would use my own voice as an instrument when I do beatboxing. Other times, a good table and I can pound out a really good beat. It all started for me back during high school where I got with a couple of people and they taught me how to create a good beat pattern and keep it going.

Honestly, I would love to learn to play the violin/viola or piano. There's something beautiful about the instruments that gets to me.

I tried to learn how to play the piano when I was seven, but I gave up on it. I kind of regret that now...

Well, I did sort of play flute back in middle school, and I consequentially picked up the piccolo and crystal flute, though I haven't had much time for them lately. I prefer what [little] talent I can muster with my singing abilities, as well as...........Zodigal, my beautiful little soprano ukulele.:D

Yeah, they are beautiful... and it seems like every single song I hear, movie that comes on... they all have violins in them and its torturing me cause I want to play mine so badly and can't because it needs new pegs and strings... T-T

They're a prog-rock band

Umm... ~~;; whats prog-rock?
I don't really listen to music outside of the classical/anime/game/70's-80's-early 90's stuff

Riotfug

I'm not exactly sure what prog-rock is but I hear people referring to Dream Theater as a prog-rock band. It means progressive-rock. Try wikipedia.
I guess it means post-rock or something

They're a prog-rock band

I've heard them referred to as prog-rock or prog-metal.
I like most of their material, but I don't like all of it.
I'm friends with the singer's nephew, believe it or not. :)

@Ashton_Anchors: Prog-rock refers to 'progressive rock.' A genre associated with many new rock bands.
Like I said previously, though, I don't like classifying bands into genres.

I play bass guitar, a little keyboard/synthesizer, and once in a blue moon, acoustic guitar.

My main passion, however, is the bass. I own two and I play them both very different ways--one for British funk and the other for different kinds of rock...

I play electric and acoustic guitar - been playing for 5 years (in may) and i've learned through a combination of self teaching and lessons. I taught myself for the first 2 years, then took lessons to learn more advanced playing techniques.

i play the piano, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and i used to play the flute. i'm mainly self taught on the guitar but i had like 3 lessons so i can't take all the credit. piano is my major passion tho. i've been taking lessons for 6 years now and adore every minute of it. but guitar comes in a close second and i'm teaching myself on my dads upright bass. its really big tho, bigger than me! i guess i am kinda short...

Well I found out that it will cost me around $50-$80 to fix my violin. Thats a bit less than I expected but it will take me a bit to get it done v.v

Ashton_Anchors
03-21-2006, 10:41 AM
Yes it does, but I don't really think that the harp would be me. I see myself more of a violinist than a harpist. I could see myself with a flute though. I wanted to join band for that instrument but I was sick during tryouts so I didn't get in v.v

I play the cello in my school's orchestra. I've been playing it for three years, so I guess I'm pretty good at it... I play some accostic guitar, and piano. I'm okay at the violin, nowhere near as good as my mom, though. I'm also fairly good at the mandolin. We also have a drum set, hammer dulcimer, and harp that I really don't play.

I've been playing piano since.... fourth grade, I think. My mom forced me to learn and I gradually started to like it, and now I don't know what I'd do without it. I'm currently running through my Final Fantasy Piano Collections sheet music to see what I can pick up. :)

i'm musically challanged, well okay i play the vocal cords maybe someone has heard me, i'm the one that is always flat, sharp, or in the wrong key, that is if i'm not doing the dreaded lip sync to some song i'm forced to sing and can't stand.

is it easy to play the guitar?

i wanna say it is, but the teachers i've had couldn't tell the difference between the pick and their g-string (i'm reffering to more then the guitair) if you labeled them yourself.

if you want to learn, i suggest a teacher that knows what their doing and that you can stand. i can stand i bad teacher, but not a dumb annoying one, you know

The Treasoner

is it easy to play the guitar?

It depends on the way you try to learn. For example if you try to teach yourself then it will be difficult but you will eventually get it. It's easier if you get a teacher to teach you. Also depends on the person some people just can't learn how to play guitar.

I played the piano

the violin

the viola

the flute

the tenor sax

the alto sax

the tromblon

and the drums...

everytime we moved I had to join a new band or class and they never had room in the insterments I knew how to play so I was always given a new one =_= it was quiet frustrating actually cause I've never had teh oppertunity to fully learn any of these interments, only a little past the basics because of all the learning I had to do everytime I switched.
