Woo! Go Uematsu-san! :D

He's one of the greatest...rivalled only in my eyes by Harry Gregson-Williams (?) who did the MGS OST.

FF wouldn't be the same without his contributions.

The Aeris theme is a rip-off of another Uematsu song (the opera on FF6), but that doesnt matter he's still great.

On that, we could say 50% of the FFX OST is a ripoff of To Zanarkand ;)

I liked his Black Mages remixes of great tracks. I own both albums! :D

I'm listening to him right now. ^_^ 'Loss Of Me' from Final Fantasy IX.

Uematsu is a GOD. Plain and simple, a musical genius. I'm a huge Uematsu fan, and went to the Final Fantasy "Dear Friends" concert a while back, which was amazing.

If you're into Uematsu music, Joe Hisaishi (Ghibli films) and Yoko Kanno (Cowboy Bebop, RahXephon, etc) are two other very good Japanese composers.

I think the shining point of Uematsu's greatness is the fact that FF IX had well over 110 tracks of music written by him.

He's come to set the standard for what music in an RPG should be like. The only people who can even come close are Noriyuki Iwadare(Lunar, Grandia) and Motoi Sakuraba(Tales of Phantasia/Destiny, Star Ocean, Baten Kaitos).

Sadly, I had to sit out both Dear Friends and More Friends; the former because my parents were too slow in getting tickets, the latter because I didn't have enough cash-- and didn't know ahead of time that a friend of mine from Arizona was going to Universal to see it. ;-;

I didn't know that. O_O IX alone? I only played the begining of that game years ago, before I was into FF. But over the years, people keep telling me to play it even if it's just for the music. Which I probably will..eventually. "Not Alone" and "Melodies of Life" are the only two I know of.

Good ones, but Yoko Kanno seems to have some potentional for the upcoming Ragnarok Online 2 game she'll be working on. From what I heard, the soundtrack is gonna consist of 90-ish songs by her.

That's a shame. Because listening to Liberi Fatali and One Winged Angel with a 30-person choir, orchestral band, speakers blaring, and FMVs playing all over the room is mind-blowing. Especially sitting in the second row. And they even did an encore of Angel for everyone. ^^ Unforunately...I don't think they're touring anymore (if you live in America). T_T

Yeah, I have the IX OST-- mind, it wasn't finished(split into a bonus album that featured Hamazaki's orchestrations and some extra tracks hidden in the game), but it counts up to 110 tracks. Of course, a number of tracks are just variations of Fu-su-ra-to or Melodies, but yeah, it's insane. So when you see that FF X had two extra hands, you've gotta wonder if Uematsu went insane or feared burning out.

I sadly don't play RO, but I'm curious to know if she'll be infusing her usual jazz influences.

There are rumours that it might return again, but they've got to decide on a place to hold it. The L.A. Philharmonic Orchestra actually booted him out after Dear Friends, citing that they were above playing "mere video game 'music'". And then Universal said "Well damn, play here!".

If there is another Friends, though, Uematsu needs to spring for the Hollywood Bowl.

I like to listen to his music. I wished he could still make music for the future FFs.

He could, it's just that Squeenix would have to ask him.

But with Koichi Sugiyama(Dragon Quest) and Noriyuki Iwadare around, they're not starving for talent. :D
