My all time favorite, the game I'm most obsessed over, game. We all know I love it (you can't tell?) but what does everyone else think about the series? I can list them all out for you
Suikoden
Suikoden II
Suikogaiden vol1
Suikogaiden vol2
Suikoden Card Stories
Suikoden III
Suikoden IV
Rhapsodia (aka Suikoden Tactics)
Suikoden V (comes out the 21 of March! Eek!!! Thats next Tuesday!!!!)

I've only played II and IV but I loved them, well maybe not IV but eh yeah great series!

Yay!! Someone else posted in my Suikoden thread!!! *huggs* >>;;;;
With IV, playing Tactics would be a big help, as it completes the story that IV did not seem to really make. I loved I and II the most though, (II being my first one to play) I had to beg my friend Panda for three years before she let me have the game.

You are soooooooooo lucky to have a copy. I rented it, then it was in a 5 euro sale and eh, i didn't buy it. Now they're selling for about 70 EURO on ebay! AHHHHHHHH!

I have 1, 2, 3, and I sold 4.
1, 2, and 3 RULED! but then, after 3, the original team left, and so started the downward spiral. Suikoden 4 SUCKED! I just hope 5 doesn't suck too.

My all time fave, is Suikoden 2. Oh, and FYI, for those of you who don't know (cuz the stupid americans didnt tell us) the Heros unknown names.
Suikoden - Tir Mcdohl
Suikoden 2 - Riou (doesnt have a last name)
and also, if you get all 108 stars in Suikoden 1, later on in 2, you can recruit Tir McDohl as your 109th star of Destiny. It really kicks ass!

Konami should do a joint effort with Square-Enix and make an Ultimate Suikoden game. Kinda like they did with disney, to make Kingdom Hearts

Suikoden 1 and 2 were the best Suikoden's of all time. None of you can contest that. I'm glad that 3 still had the castle building element to it, but everything after 2 began to suck. I heard 4 was the worst. So the entire game you are stuck on a ship and you can't go to towns? WTF is that? Anyways, i know this is just an opinion, but I heard what I heard.

People seem to under SIV, you have to play Tactics to enjoy the two of them (IV and Tactics) Since in the Suikoden timeline it goes Tactics-IV-Tactics
So far from what I've been reading up on, Suikoden V is good, the people down at Suikosource who bought a Japanese copy to play it early have said that it is pretty good.
About Konami teaming with Square... no, that would bring Suikoden down for sure, they'd try and make it another FF series spin off and that would be horrible. I like them the way that they are, even if the original team left, it still has good elements in them.

Yea i know. But itll never happen. The game industry is dying latley. Its no longer about how good the game is anymore. Its about how cool it looks. theres SO MANY games out there that are like "WHOA! KICK ASS GRAPHICS!" but the game itself, sucks. Thats why I love the classics. Like Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, Tales of Destiny 1 and 2, etc etc.

No that isn't really true. You can go into towns and stuff, but it is true the majority of the time you are on the ocean. That wouldn't be so bad if the ship wasn't so slow however.
As for Suikoden 1 and 2 being the best and it can't be contested, well yes it can. Everyone has different opinions so it is likely that someone will like 3 and 4 over 1 and 2. it doesn't make them wrong it's just there personal opinion. I think there is something to like in all of them however.
In any case, my first experience with Suikoden was Suikoden 2. I didn't get a chance to play it much because it got broken soon after I bought it but it was awesome.

3 is my favorite of the games. I felt that the characters were developed more, and more characters were developed. 2 is close behind it for the best story. Best gameplay, though... Well, that's got to go to Card Stories... Especially late in the game, where you can put random cards together. Okay, leading my party into battle will be... Luca Blight! And then to go with him I'll play... Pesmerga! And now... Sasarai! Then Luc! Then Yuber! **sigh** I wish I had more cards now...
5 though... 5's gonna be up there (for the record, I prefer 4 to 1... 1 just wasn't fleshed out enough, and there was too much cut... and 4 had Ritapon...). I mean... even on a speed-through, it's still got to be 40+ hours with all characters. My boyfriend's at 60+ with 7 more to go.

Yes, but you see, Ashton, everything that's made in Japan is a whole lot better because they get the original, uncut version. By the time it makes it to the USA, the people who work here in America change the scenes, change all the names to retarded names, cut out certain scenes because of "censorship." So you can't really say that they said it was good, because here in America, unfortunately, it'll be a totally different version.:(
This blows big monkey balls, man. I'm moving to Japan. :(

Most fans hate suikoden 4 so your not alone. Suikoden 1 is really the setup for Suikoden two but it's still fun to play. The ending for Suikoden 1 is sad because two main charcters fates is left up in the air. I think the main theme for suikoden 2 is friendship and how far are you willing to go for your dreams. Konami might release suikoden 1&2 for the PSP here in the US.

A couple things, the peeps down on Suikosource, there are only a handful that dislike IV, also Konami has no intention of releasing the PSP Suikoden's over here... I called them like a hundred times and emailed them about a thousand. Why? Because I'm an obsessed fan.

Don't know about that, on the back of the game case, I looked at it in GameStop, it says clearly on it "Brief Nudity" Are you so sure that they are changing things around and censoring them? There is this really neat site that tells you all of the mistranslations that Konami has made through the Suikoden Series, there are a lot, but they are simple mistakes, for instance, In Viktor's Mercenary Fort there's a cat that will say "Sonya..." if spoken to. Unlike what some people with more imagination than intelligence would have you believe the cat is not Teo McDohl re-incarnated talking about his beloved Sonya.
The cat is actually saying "Nnyaa", which would be the Japanese version of "Meow".
This happened quite easily cause the kana for "SO" and "N" are very similair, and respectively.
Konami has been pretty good about their games staying the same, the site that I was talking about if your interested in it (heh, which I was very much before) is http://www.klueze.com/
Does anyone import games here? Oh and how exactly do you fit your console with a chip or something for playing foreign-encoded games?
I have only imported the Gaidens and the Card Stories, I wanted to import the limited editions of IV and V but I don't have that kind of money.
For the PS2, I do belive that there is not a chip, thats for psx, but for the PS2, there is a modification to your disk despensor, I know that you have to replace it with a new one but thats all I do know about the PS2. I didn't want to ruin my PS2, so I figured I'll just stick with my good ol' psx mod chip I place in the back of my council.

I know there is a chip that lets you play USA games on an English PS2 as I've got one (it's the only way I could get to play Suikoden 3*sobs*) so there should be one for the thats lets you play Japanese games as well.

Yeah, Suikoden would be totally ruined by Square. Not even because I necessary don't like Square (although I am pretty not impressed with a lot of their recent work in the FF department) but because those are two game asthetics that just don't mix, man. And Square would want to do their thing with it, since Square is more popular. Leave well enough alone.

Slaynlanser, is your name a nod to Slayn from Growlanser?
And I have to say that I do NOT wish that square enix would butt in the Suikoden world. I like them and all, but I think they would take away the feeling I so love in Suikoden, I rather like that its almost anonymous, and that would be THOUROUGHLY destroyed by square enix. Plus, I disliked Kingdom Hearts, the begiining was very fun, but the moment Donald made his entrance, I vomited and turned the game off. I like very few things in the world of Disney and I HATE crossovers, so I hated it.
But Square Enix and final fantasy are a very good team (or were, before the garbage known as FF X-2 was born *vomit*) I have nothing against the comapany itself.

@luukasama
Actually, I agree with you... there is actually a game I own, which I know, firsthand, has edited scenes and dialogue in it, as well as part of a cinema completely cut out... that would be Xenosaga Episode I. Apparently some of the scenes when Albedo had captured and was torturing Momo were too intense and graphic, and they edited out a lot of strange and demented violent scenes, instead of either rating the game M, or stating 'intense violent scenes' on the game case... you know, they'd probably have a list of differences on Wikipedia.com, I've noticed they have a lot of that kinda stuff on there...
Ashton_Anchors
03-21-2006, 08:36 AM
Xenosaga is also a Sqaure game. This is the company that was not going to release Xenogears to us, and the game, when it came out, did get scenes cut out. There has not been any word about Konami doing that to their Suikoden series, if the would, Suikosource would be the first place to know about it and tell the world, so you don't really have to fear things getting cut out of Suikoden.

I'm just mad that they didn't put Morgan from Suikoden 1 in it. Since it is set in Falena and he was a gladiator there. But Lorelai and Killey are there so I guess that makes up for that.

Well, I don't know if anyone else has it yet, but I did pick it up yesterday when it came out, but I'm not gonna start it until after I finish atleast Wild ARMS 4 and Grandia 3... maybe even Tales of Legendia... but I'll get to it eventually...
Ashton_Anchors
03-24-2006, 09:03 AM
I didnt' think it was that slow. It starts out where you are giving a report to the Queen, so you have to play out what you are giving your report. But if you mean slow as in how Suikoden ( the first one) started off, then I guess so? But I'm glad that, even though Morgan is not in the game, they mentioned him. So that was nice. But its a great game so far.

How are the bonuses ? What tracks are on the cd and is the artbook thick or skinny?
Ashton_Anchors
03-24-2006, 05:05 PM
The artbook could have been better. Like with actual art. They have a few characters, but not all of them, they showed 31 characters (some non star ones too). They could have show the places and monsters. They misput the rune names as well, they labeled the Dawn Rune as the Twilight and the Twilight as the Dawn Rune. They also put Dragon inplace of True Fire, True Fire as the True Water, True Water as the True Wind, True Wind as the True Lightning and the True Lightning as the Dragon. The tracks on the CD are:
A New World Awaits
Stormfist Arena - Main Theme
The Queen's Knights
Admiral of the Seas
The Two Guardian Runes
Lucretia's Smile
The Inveitable - A Tragic Battle Awaits
Epilogue to a Prideful Heart
Mine Cart Madness (that was a stage name in Donkey Kong Kountry O.o;; )
The DoReMi Elves

Yeah, I noticed the mislabelings too, though only cause I'm reading the Suikoden III manga, and I thought some of them were messed up, but that's too funny...
oh, and earlier, Ashton, you said Xenosaga was a Square game? It's not... Xenogears was Squaresoft, but the Xenosaga games are actually made by Namco, and I think that's because Squeenix abandoned the concept, hence the sci-fi-ish backdrop for the games, instead of the desert-type planet from Xenogears...

that's too bad... I was actually able to find the game and strategy guide for the first one at walmart.com, and that was just after the second one came out, so I think I got pretty lucky... but I thought the first one was actually better, so if you didn't like it, then you probably wouldn't like 2 either, and there's no point in playing three... so, oh well, another decent series down the hole... I thought it was going to be the hero in a revolt against the queen.I thought the Hero was going to kill the queen at the of the game but Georg did it so he wouldn't have to. I thought that's how the creators were going connect the different games.Boy, Was I wrong. What happened at the place after Raftfleet was crazy. I was tottally not expecting that. I thought something was weird when you talk to one of the guards and he was talking about getting some food. I thought Gizel wouldn't be that bold but damn..
Is one anyone getting a Dune type of feel? I'm getting that with the feuding houses with the Goodwin house as the House Harkonnen. The Hero as Paul,The Queen as Lady Jessica, and Freid as Duke Leto.

5 rivals two
and tactics is pretty good

Yeah. I played a demo of four, and it's subpar compared to the rest of the series. Five I don't yet have, but I'm getting it in the near future. What's tactics story?
zodac
09-07-2006, 08:39 PM
tactics is basically the plot that suikoden 4 was missing
it wraps up all the loose ends that 4 left (and there's alot of them)
its also know as suikoden apology, cause konami had to make it to shut the angry suikoden fans up after four
DragonMaster
09-07-2006, 08:42 PM
Indeed. The series doesn't need to be ruined by a game like that, only to have no people buy the next. So, an apology was in order. Have you heard anything about 6? I've only heard little bits and pieces about it.
