Fansubs/Full Videos on Video section?

Is TokyoPop okay with this? I don't mean to nag, I just imagine most of the people posting this stuff aren't fully aware of what their doing. A lot of it is licensed material too. Short clips are one things, but full dub episodes?

I know I'll probably get flammed for posting this question, but someone has to ask it

Given TP doesn't allow members to link to file sharing sites, I assume they wouldn't allow similar practices on their own website.

I've noticed animation students putting up their test animations and stuff like that. And you can make very short animations of your own with Windows Movie Maker.... I'd like to see more content like that myself :)

It is in the Terms of Use [and it's also in YouTube's TOU.... every once in awhile, they go on a fansub deletion spree], but how many kids are gonna bother reading it? A nice BIG warning when they go to upload stuff would probably deter some of it.

I don't think people should be posting licensed anime. Let alone dubbed episodes.
I feel this kind of stuff should be brought to TP's attention. A lot of newer anime fans aren't well educated on this kind of stuff, and I think it's good to point this kind of stuff out. If simply flagging it helps TP get it removed sooner then posting a notice about it where some Mods might see it, then that's what I'll do.

I'm just bothered by the fact you're posting the links to them in here. Who ever monitors the blogs will see your flags and deal with it, but posting the links in here isn't doing much.

Apparently, that's the case. I've noticed that a lot of items I've flagged have remained, including a ton of swiped art images from other sites [with the artists URL on the image 0_0], take a long time to get taken down if at all. I imagine it's just a lack of time, and being slightly overwhelmed, on TP's part, as well as kinks still being worked out of the system.
Telling someone they shouldn't be posting that stuff usually gets you flamed [despite it being against the rules], and I've noticed people tend to pay less attention to this then the Art Thefts [mind you, art theft is indeed a more personal crime, and is really a worse problem overall. Most people posting fansubs tend to just not know better, vs. purposely stealing something and claiming it as their own].

Most younger and/or newer fans just don't know better, after being raised on a steady diet of downloading, which is kind of sad.....

Well, if the picture has the artists link on it, it wouldnt neccasarily be 'Art Theft' right because there not claiming the pic is there own property? Anyway, Videos and Music and crap just arent going to work... its pretty obvious.

I think ill go search up some of these TP spaces today. Im curious to see what TP has planned for them.

You Tube is bad enough.... animenewsservice.com posted a link a couple weeks ago to an excellent article about YouTube and Japanese Animation companies [basically "Gah! Why are US fans doing this? It makes us sad" and such].

And even then, YouTube DOES go on massive swaths every once in a while, and removes fansubs. Because you're not supposed to post copyrighted material there either.

But posting it on TP's website? I kind of wonder if TP's licensors and competitors are okay with it. It'd be best to take care of this before it gets out of control.

I think there's nothing wrong with putting links in the forum, and it may be more effective than just flagging.

This forum is for questions and site feedback, so if you have feedback about a specific page on the site, why not put a link to it?

But my whole philosophy on reporting posts is only to report when it personally offends me. I've only done it once (I think), and I was mistaken (Peter should know). But like spam, off-topic posts, duplicate threads, na, I don't do it. "Let the mods to there job" I say to myself.

I thought they just had a whole bunch of reports and comments, and the reporter was anonymous :S Anyway, thats what I did for a few months and probably only reported once if ever before august, but seeing as TPF was getting spammy again I figured Id become a report bitch :) Beware ~.~

I left most of these people messages, and some do take them down themselves sometimes. Which is nice, as it really is a matter of simply being unaware of the rules sometimes :) I don't think these people should get in any kind of big trouble. The episodes should just be deleted, and they should just be told not to upload full episodes again. TP should also make a plain english disclaimer of some kind.

It depends on if it falls under terms of fair use [and you should note the copyright]..... TP's mods'ld probably have a better explanation of it all. Posting a piece of artwork that isn't yours in the "My Art" section of the site, or posting full anime episodes or scanlations is stealing a copyrighted work. This is a tad different from using a sig that you've made, with a portion of a piece of artwork [if I was using someonelses artwork, I'd probably try to get permission, or notate the copyright. Like say c)CLAMP, just out of courtesy.....].

Several Mods do have their own sigs, so I don't think it's a problem [again, not a mod, so I'm not to sure on the regulations].

This is something that could cause trouble if it isn't removed. I've flagged it [like I've been doing moreso lately, since it seems to be TP's preference], but this was just a bit much

EDIT--- If anyone stumbles across this thread, and wonders why I'm not posting on it anymore, it's primarily due to a lack of time, and the fact that not much is being done to remove these videos. Rather then harass individuals to remove episodes [as I don't really have any authority in this matter..... I always attempted to do so politely, but now it's gotten to big for meto really do anything about it I'll just simply hope that TP will get around to cleaning things up themselves, and flag things when I get the chance..
