View Full Version : Tokyo Pop manga only?
Are we only allowed to discuss manga published by Tokyo Pop here?
If so I'll be at a loss as I can;t remember which titles I own are published by who...
I've always been a bit absent minded, heh ^^;

Cuuuuuute! ^_^ Hehe!
I'm pretty sure Tokyopop won't mind if we talk about mangas that have been licensed (or published) by other anime companies.
...that is I hope they don't @_@

i dont think they will right...?

If that's the case, nearly all of us (including myself) have already violated the rules. ^_~ If it becomes an issue, I'm sure they'll either make an official request or separate boards for Tokyopop manga and "Other" manga. Although I can hardly see long conversations for manga going without references to other series...it's just a staple. We'll see.

I doubt it. Tokyopop monitor the forums and review what we talk about. It's their sneaky way of finding out what manga they need to license to please us. Sometimes expressing what we want requires talking about manga licensed by other companies.
I think this is a really good way for Tokyopop to hear from their fans! Yay for Tokyopop!

Thanks littlekittysakura! Your reaction is just what we hoped for. And no worries...TOKYOPOP opened up this message board for you guys to talk about every manga from every publisher. Say what you like and what you don't like about any of them. It's open season!
Check out the guidelines (http://messageboard.tokyopop.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3) and you'll see only the usual rules about behaving properly like you'll find on any message board.

That's a relief. I thought that they were going to monitor who was buying manga from other publishers and hunt us down and eliminate us one by one. ;)
I'm kidding, of course. :p

Heh. *Laughs* The reason it's probably open for everything is that while there is competition among the manga companies, I don't think they are actually mean to each other for this simple fact: They all carry different books.
And no fan I know buys by 'brand', like you would for cereal, or toilet paper, or whatever. Each manga series is different, and the fans just don't care much who prints it as long as they get it.
XD
Besides, this means they allow comparisons to the selections of other companies.
Note: Viz Media probably has the highest percentage of great manga compared to total liscenced series (by Shonen Jump alone), but Tokyopop still has plenty of great stuff.

Bleh, most Shonen Jump manga is icky. Viz does have a few good series, but not as many as TP. TP ftw!
Get the pitchforks and torches! We's got us an apostate!

Does that mean we can talk bad about Tokyopop and not have it deleted? Well, to a certain extent.

XD It might not be to your taste, but anything SJ brings over is bound to be good. It did, after all, make it to the number one manga magazine in Japan, which only manga that's better than the best can get into. In my experience, Viz has a lot more of the action/shonen titles, while Tokyopop tends to focus a bit more on Shojo. I try to judge things impartially when mentioning them to other people. Even if I don't like it, it might be good, and I'll say as such. Honesty is the best policy. Besides, the fact that SJ has some great titles doesn't mean Tokyopop doesn't. *Laughs*

Somebody's looked down on Tokyopop here. ^^
The bright side is that they won't delete my thread when I mention what they did bad, then. When my first reviews are up, anyways. *Laughs evilly*

What was suggested in the post I had quoted. You see the little box where it contains text by someone other than Kyaa? That would be what I responded to when I said "It has been done."
Let us use this as a learning experience, mmmkay?

The mangas I own are mostly from tokyopop with viz in second. Every time I think that viz is catching up tokyopop pops up(heh) with new titles and I can't help but buy them.

I don't imagine there would be a problem. The interesting thing is that most of the manga I get anymore is from Viz. I used to get a lot of TP, but with the sale going on right now, I can't see myself dropping a G on what I need to buy. But a Viz sale, I know I'll be kissing said G goodbye.
