View Full Version : Sushi Anyone?

Okay, if you do a quick search on google, I am sure you will find most of this correct (I did a little reasearch before I went to Hawaii)...
I want to know your favorite type of sushi. If you like sushi, you should know that sushi referes to the rice, not the fish. Sushi can be fish, veggies, or a number of other things.
the things i am putting on the poll are:
Maki: the most common type of sushi, served in seaweed (nori)
Nigiri: sushi that is on rice instead of seaweed
Inari: rice stuffed into a small pocket of fried tofu (when I had this, it was actually quite sweet)
Chirashi-Zushi: rice bowl with scattered toppings
i am not going to go into a huge amount of details, i just want to know what one, if any, that you prefer (sp?)

My parents like sushi, but I don't like it. Don't like food raw. You also have to be careful when you eat it, you could get sick. This one food place got closed down for a couple of days just because they didn't keep the sushi at the right temperature.

I hate seaweed, so I don't like alot of the kinds of sushi (NoriMaki, Gunkan, Temaki). And I'm pretty picky when it comes to seafood and vegetables, so I don't like most of the toppings of sushi either XD *picky eater* But I do like the Nigiri with just some smoked salmon on top and nothing else. I've never tried Inari, but it looks like something I would eat.

I like fish, but not cold. So I don't really eat sushi.

it seems a lot of people have problems with raw fish
lol
some of my favorite sushi actually didnt have raw fish in it. I really liked the cucumber rolls (i don't even like cucumbers...) and the ones with carrots in it. Another great one was a california roll (i think) and i don't think it had raw fish in it, but i do remember it had cheese in it, and that was really good...
Edit: and also, you can get sushi at target, that has imitation fish in it, so getting sick is less of a worry

if you like sea food, you should try it.
just remember, if you go to a real japanese restraunt, and are given just plain, raw fish....ALWAYS dip it in soy sauce. I ate it plain and thought it was quite nasty, and the sushi chef had tell me to dip it into the soy sauce...my dumb

You know what is really dumb? Double the meat is doubly good. Double raw salmon is not as good as predicted. ><

I first tried sushi when I was a little kid and I though it was disgusting. Now I don't mind it too much though. My favourite kind of sushi is salmon and crab. I'm not really use to using those Japanese names listed at the top, but I'm pretty sure I've tried maki inari, and nigiri before.
Ew, no I don't like sushi. At least not after watching the discovery channel, lmao. There's a chance you might get disgustingly sick. But I do like fish and shrimp cooked.

ROFLOL!!! i'm not a fan of fish (yes i know you can get sushi without it) so i've never tried it...and this quote may keep it that way.

In this world I have problems with but two things.
Raw fish.
Imitation raw fish.
And if its a choice between getting sick and eating imitation raw fish, I'll get sick any day. ><

I like maki and nigiri but I think it depends on how it's made and the topping/filling and the sauce.

Lucky!! lmao... i don't understand how people can hate it o_0 i guess...i've just been eating sushi for so long that i am accustomed to it :P ...lol...
me and my friend were at target the other day, and got sushi, and it had this tapiocia paper on it...and the paper was so freaking nasty (yes, you CAN eat it....) but had a really good sweet chilli sauce to cover up the taste of the paper...lol :D

Strathfield is about an hour or so drive from my school. It's also pretty much Korean central in Sydney so it's obvious the sushi is Korean not Japanese. Koreans make good sushi though.
So this sushi is hopefully made fresh and goes into the nice air-conditioned delivery van. Drives and hour or so to get to my school. The sushi sits in the fridge for a few days. Then some unlucky person will buy the teriyaki chicken sushi cause everyone has been warned to stay away from the fish.
I go to the same school as Drunken_butterfly, and yup I'm that friend that said "That's from Strathfield" ;)

I love sushi, I just never know what I eat because whenever I go, I make someone else order something random for me, because I know I will most definately love it!

Eh. Sushi - I think - takes some getting used too. When I first started eating it I couldn't really take anything but a California Roll. But I didn't want that because California rolls are fake sushi.
I don't want to just be able to eat fake sushi.
So I conditioned myself. And now -- finally -- I can eat any kind. Eh. At first I felt really sick. Buuut eventually I got used to it. I like Inari the most I think.

The only reason I never liked Sushi was when it contained raw fish [because I had learned there was a chance you could get sick with tapeworms or any kind of raw meat]. Over-dramatization? No. I just take small precautions and make sure my food is fully cooked.
Since awhile back I have finally tasted Veggie Sushi. I think it tastes great with Soy or Duck Sauce.

I like all kinds of sushi. Sashimi not so much, except with mayo, haha I'm weird!
My boyfriend also likes all kinds of sushi but he couldn't stand uni (sea urchin). I guess a lot of people have only tried the raw fish types? There are lots of cooked or non-meat sushi out there, both as nigiri and makimono.
tamago (sweet egg)
unagi (eel)
cucumber
shinko (pickled daikon radish)
kanpyo (pickled squash, or something like that)
ume (japanese plum)
inari (aburage stuffed with rice mixed with sesame seeds)
futo maki (supposed to be filled with no raw fish and the only "meat" would be the sweet egg)
ebi (shrimp, never served raw, typically)
natto (fermented beans)
and many many more inventions, some that are regular menu items, and others only limited by imagination. Some people mix tuna out of the can with mayonaise and top that on the vinegar rice.
I used to work at a fast food sushi restaurant... so although I'm not elite I can generally make decent stuff... :)

Thing is, a lot of my friends and family love sushi, so I've tried really hard to like it (kind of stupid on my part). I ended up nearly vomiting right there in the resteraunt.
But if I HAD to choose on I'd choose the rice wrapped seaweed one...:p
