View Full Version : Digital or Import?
I was wondering, is Manga Studio helpful if you only import your pencil sketches to be inked on it, or is it based more around creating everything on the program?
Sorry if this is a newbie question, I just don't want to buy something and then find that it won't help me at all:(

It can help at just about any stage, really. If you don't have a tablet, though, I'd say it makes it a bit harder...especially if you have NO artistic talent with a mouse. I have a tiny problem with mice--my middle finger on my drawing hand is numb from a major fixing accident, and therefore I have no stability. So I HAVE to have a tablet. Might work if you don't if you are good with mice, though.
I've done several methods with my MS. I've penciled first and imported. Inked it. Really nice inking tools. But if you don't like that, you can always ink it by hand, and import that to tone and letter and such. I've also done it this way--penciled in MS and printed it out with pale blue ink to ink it traditionally to scan it back in. That works well, too.
So, yeah, to answer your question in short--works really well. ^_^

I've never used it for importing work, as I'm trying out digital for a while, but MS does a fantasic job of mimicing the look of actual pencils, markers, and various lines made by different pen types. It works really well for exporting, and I haven't heard any problems about importing, though I have yet to try that.
Inking in particular I love with this program because of how close I can zoom and how I won't miss any lines I need. Of course, what I do is make the pencil sketch on a single layer, the go over the lines I need on another layer with the pencil tool, then ink those on another layer.
I'd say you'd definitly needs a tablet unless you're Rembrant with a mouse, but that could just be my ineptitude with the mouse coming to the fore.
Alright, I have one more question. What in the world is a tablet??

tablet is a pen that is connected to the computer by wires or just electric signals, it is just basically a pen(with a mat), which is easier to use than a mouse.
You heard of wacom? that's one type.^^

Bascially, there's an area of the tablet, most commonly 4x5 or 6x8, that equates to the screen of the monitor. The pen acts as the mouse, even so you can click tools or icons with the tablet.
They also come with a mouse usually, but you have to use that on the tablet, which is a pain, so I just use both the tablet and the mouse at the same time.
Triple UBS ports are awesome.
Alright thanks for the info, I'm going to definitely check those out. :D
