According to the user's guide of Manga Studio, I'm supposed to be able to paint on tone patterns by using the pen tool, but it doesn't tell me how to do this. The pen only ever paints solid black lines, and the only way to apply tones is by selecting an area and dragging the tone into the window. It would be much easier if I could just paint them like with the pattern brush - is there really a way to do this? I'm using Debut, so it something that's only in EX?

I came across this by accident. I don't have the program in front of me so I'm trying to explain this from memory.

I created a new layer. I used the lasso tool and created a circle. I took my tone from the library and dragged it into the circle I created. I then deleted the tone. The layer remembers the tone I used. I selected my marker tool and I think it needs to be set at tone from the marker library and I start toning away.

And if you want a different tone, follow the steps in the above paragraph.

It's much easier to tone this way. Before I was using the lasso tool and it was really a drag and time consuming because IMO the lasso tool is not very good in M.S. when compared to the lasso tool in photoshop.

Wow, that sounds like it'd give a MUCH better artistic and aesthetic result than a lasso tool. O.o
