View Full Version : YouTube's Copyright Infringement

According to an article from CNET News, YouTube is in the process of removing things from its site such as anime, movies, and other copyrighted material. This may mean a major loss of members. Those of you that visit http://keiichianimeforever may have noticed that much of their collection had been taken off of the site as well. Thing is, you're probably still wondering,"What's the big deal???"

Two services run by two people in Australia are giving people new ways to access
and use video content from sites like YouTube and Google Video, and copyright holders may well find themselves up in arms about it.

well thats quite dissapointing...i dont mind the anime taken down so much, i feel that the people should get credit for what they created. But i'm just hopeing they dont take down the PV's...its the only way i get to watch Japanese Music Video's u.u I dont know how i would be able to see my favorite J-Rock artists with out it O.o...let alone listen to their music u.u for me its hard to find sites that have the cd's of the bands that i want to get (Currently been searching for D'espairs Ray cd's for the past 6 months >.< and i cant order from CD' Japan T-T )
but anyway getting slightly off topic here ^^; sorry
but yeah i think what their doing is probiably the best in some cases but in others such as music video's and such should be left on the site, as promotional value for the artists.

brilliant. Someone finally makes a service that allows everyone to do what we've been having to do through carefull planned cdes, thus spoiling everyones fun. Lovely.

Aww man. That's where I watched all the episodes of FMA. When I was gonna show one of the episodes to my friend, it said it was removed due to copyright infringement. So all the episodes are gone. Waaaaah!!!! T_T

See, this si why idiots shoudln't be allowed to create websites. They create something that seems a great idea on the face of it, missing out on the fact that it's obviously ilegal and will cause a collapse.

You know, most of the DVDs are out, right? DVD 10 has shipped, so I'd advise buying them and showing the ep that way.

Licensed ones...yep. Those, like the ongoing second season af Tsubasa and the first season of xxxHolic...still catch them there since they aren't licensed...yet.

As long as there's still unlicensed series, then it's fine with me.

He looks like a stick in the manga too...

Keeping on topic: Did people not see this coming? Considering how much copy infringement abounded in YouTube in the first place...

This is definitely a good thing... I hate it when people watch bootlegs of anime, especially liscenced anime.

Yeah, I suppose Watanuki looks skinny, but I don't really mind, it's still good. But am I the only one that thinks Yuuko is a little like the Sea Witch from the Little Mermaid? Just, she drinks more...and is more....sadistic ^^;

I don't mind unlicensed anime getting shown on Youtube, but licensed anime is a no-no. There's sorta an 'unspoken rule' that when an anime gets licensed, it stops getting subbed and all the little fans have to wait for it to get dubbed. XD Unless it's Naruto or Bleach. That's why you can barely find Tsubasa S1 anywhere.

Woah, thanx. I just read the article and it helped clear up some confusion. Maybe I'll look into Google Videos now.

I don't get why people would actually like watching anime on Youtube in the first place... Or upload it anyway (it takes so friggin long to do so).

No problems for me with videos over at YouTube...but then I do have high-speed. That place is a killer to dial-up folks.

As long as there's still unlicensed series, then it's fine with me.

Actually, we have to remember that YouTube is a website and thus not exclusive to America. From what I've seen, Japanese copyright holders may be taking action as well. My friend had been watching the anime "Air," which is not licensed in the U.S. (I'm pretty sure), and she said those were suddenly taken down for copyright violation. I also went to YouTube to watch some KOTOKO PVs recently, and many of those have been taken down as well. :(

I dunno, I have a hard time thinking of YouTube as copyright violation. (I know, I know, even though it is. -_-) The videos are honestly of such low quality that they're not a substitute for watching DVDs by any stretch of the imagination. You can't actually download anything, either. And as someone mentioned, YouTube by far offers the best selection of the LIMITED ways for people to view things like music videos that are simply unavailable in their own country. (You want Americans to view Japanese videos legally? Then lower import costs and eliminate the ridiculous "DVD Region Enconding" system for non-Hollywood movies, eh?? And start a channel like MTV to play them so we can try before we buy. If such things don't make money, however, those people who want to see them won't get to see them. I don't think that's fair.)

What I've always been wondering is how the heck does YouTube have such seemingly unlimited space to host all those videos?? (Especially when you factor in all the idiots who re-upload a video that's been uploaded 8 times already.)

I definitely saw this coming, and I see the Destruction of YouTube in the not-so-distant future. We all lived, of course, before the advent of YouTube, but it's always very difficult to detach ourselves from something we are used to having. That's just the way people are. ._.

If they take everything off, there will be absolutely nothing to do now.
WHY?
It's like.. someone uploads it correct?
It's their choice to SHARE it.

For example, it's the same thing as someone borrowing their friend's manga book and not buying it themselves.

programs such as limewire, azureus ect. are about the same thing.
Uploading and sharing files.

Same thing with Myspace videos. They have Bleach eps on there. And Naruto I think.

If they take off the copy-righted stuff, then doesn't that mean that all AMV's will be taken down too?
And music videos?
Even all the copy-righted things in other places? Not just the US?

Then what would be the point of Youtube if you can't share videos that people WANT to watch?

Mtv does actually have a japanese website so you can probably view music videos there.

They also have mtv china, korea, and another asian country I can't remember with site in english that have music videos. They are geared toward asian americans.

Heh, without mvs and shows like anime on youtube there will be the leftovers, which shows people acting like fools, trying to get their 10 minutes of fame. :o

But how will non-Japanese speakers navigate those sites?

Its not YouTube that is infringing copyrights but rather their users. It is really not that bad. YouTube still has grounds to stand on as a cool service as it has many legitimate uses and the people suing them are idiots.

If your interested there is an interesting article:

Ah, but (a) suing someone for causing you to lose money is perfectly legal. The law was created to protect people you know.
(b)youtube's also dangerous. Making tentacle hentai available without an age warning is sick! sick!

sentaku-san

YouTube is not supposed to tolerate adult content, if I'm correct. There is a reporting system if you come across stuff like tentacle porn. o.o Granted, not everything can be reported fast enough because the number of idiots uploading random sh!t multiplies every day.

that's probably because Funimation licensed it. Seriously people, wait for 5 or 6 months, and if a show does well in Japan, it's bound to get licensed in the US once it's japanese dvd release is nearing completion....

Anime isn't a right, it's a privilege folks.
