Goth rock? Is that really possible? Aren't they really two totally separate genres?

Anyway, I listen to lots of Gazette, Kagrra, .Lab and Lareine. And Due le Quartz, afterall, who cares if they broke up?

Most of these aren't even goth rock to be honest.
In fact, a few of these bands are as pop as you can get or aren't even bands.
Shonen Knife which was one of my first loves [I have a signed poster I got from them] is now broken up.
T.M Revolution is pop and is a one person act. Puffy Ami Yumi is also pop.

Miyavi is just really rock, DEG has changed a lot going from V-K to just rock.

One of my all time favorites because SK is gone? eX-GIRL. Listen to them, they are most awesome. <3

If those bands are goth then I'm an alien.

Actually BLOOD is pretty goth (according to what they say about themselves anyway).
I'm too lazy to explain about those other bands though.

According to what I say about BLOOD, they're a bunch of arrogant pricks. :DDD~~

That's what I thought too, but apparently some guy in Japan decided to mix the two genres up I guess.

I prefer Japanese punk rock emo goth bands myself.

Rock is about the ONLY form of goth, unless you count the whole industrial genre. X3 I dunno where the "gothic metal" thing came from ... but if you go back to the original gothic bands back in the early 80s, it's all quite slow, melodic or dirgey rock.

I don't really know any Japanese Goth stuff, I just sort of browsed in hoping that there'd be some good stuff recommended! ^-^;

One wonders Is this goth or does the band simply like lamps?

Bands that consider themselves goth, and not visual kei, would be Moi dix Mois and BLOOD. I don't know what other bands consider themselves goth... Ones that look goth, although to my knowledge are still considered Visual Kei: Malice Mizer (Klagha era), Sito Magus, D... (blanking out, can't remember what any of the bands look like...)
