Anyone else here love the Lolita fashion? Any of the sub-categories?

My favorite 3 types of the fashion is Gothic, Punk, and Wa. <333 I've been into it only since June of '05, but I've grown a mad love for the fashion and lifestyle ^^

I first discovered it in March of '02. My friend sent me a link to a Miyavi fansite she found telling me to check out the cute guy and I saw Gothic Lolita bible scans. And thus I fell in love.

I tend to like gothic aristocrat more than gothic lolita, but I usually dress lolita because it's easier for me. If I had more money, I would dress in the aristocrat style more often.

Lolita is lovely. I'm also into Japanese street fashion. If I dressed as random as them here, I would definetly get some looks. :/

Ah but aren't the looks nice? Just 'look' back... ^_^
I really like lolita and gothic fashion (it's so pretty and doll esque) and I also like how pretty Mana looks in it... (even if he is a guy...) other types of Japanese fashion is nice (ooo... pretty colours!) even ganguro... although I like pale skin more than dark (probably because mine is dark ^_^; ) both look very nice though... also make for very nice manga character designs...

I'm going to start wearing it as a daily fashion once I make/buy more clothes of the fashion ^^ I can't wait! I'm finishing my first Gothic Lolita outfit some time between now and Friday night <3I tend to get some pretty weird looks at school, but it doesn't really bother me(since I get some really nice compliments too). One teacher came up to me last week and said "I was wondering if I could take a picture of your shoes. I was telling my friend about the crazy girl who always walks around in these huge shoes..." XD

@HIStory: Mana aims to look androgynous, so it's pretty difficult to find any "solid proof" that he's male.

He's a male, there's no doubt in me about that ^^ There's actually been some shirtless pix of him <.< I forgot where they are though... and the pix I've seen with him without make-up, he still looks pretty XD

I still wear the skirt though, even though my sewing job was terrible.

I have to be careful which friends I wear GL around. The one friend I usually go out to the mall with doesn't care, but the other one starts screaming "innappropriate cosplay" every time I dare wear platforms and knee-highs together, even if I'm not trying to dress GL. x_x

Ive been really into GL ever since I read the Doll series, now Im hooked. Ive recently been looking at sites in the uk that do the clothes and varius other sites that are just images. I think Im gonna have to learn how to sew, just so i can make myself some egl clothes lol.
Btw, Id never heard of Mana before, so I did a google image search. Omg, I cant believe that he's a man! He's so beautiful! He looks more like a woman than I do!

I sew quite a bit of my own clothing, or modify some items to get them into the right shape. I've also commissioned some stuff too.

I have actually gotten rid of anything in my wardrobe that is not either:
1.Gothic/Aristo
2.Lolita
3.Punky/stylish
4.Extremely comfortable
5.Essential to have for special occassions

So that I am forced to be stylish... everyday! XD

Lolita clothes - I have:
4 formal one-pieces
2 casual one-pieces
3 overdresses/light coats
7 tops
6 skirts
2 winter coats

in mainly black x black or black x white ensembles. I actually have lots more stuff that can be used for casual loli, or aristo outfits, but then my list would get too messy.

But I always want more... T_T

i prefer aristocrat goth personally. Lolita is cool and all but it freaks me out when a 30 year old japanese woman can end up looking like they are a overgrown preteens.

i only like it on guys when they aren't wearing a corset, dress, high heels, platform boots, or makeup. Tail coats, vests, canes, and top hats are sex.

Well the top seems to be coming out ok... but I know it could of been better ^^;; It doesn't help that I'm a plus-sized Lolita, so I had to settle for a pattern and alter it or resize a smaller size x_x

And my friends oddly seem to encourage my wear of Lolita XD

It's very easy to tell the difference of regular Goth and the Lolita fashion. For example: Almost every sub-category of the fashion envolves a petticoat in some way ^^

I prefer to dress the ameri-goth way. Boots+striped socks, miniskirt, tank top, lots of purple eyeshadow, and spiked collar. It's easier to manage and I have more money in my pocket.

I did the whole ameri-goth thing during 8th grade when I hung out with all the cool highschoolers from the northern part of the county. Then I got into 9th grade and saw all the goths in my school I discovered they were *******s. I decided that I didn't want to associate with them and toned it down a bit so that people didn't think I was actually part of their crowd.

I always thought of that look more as casual goth or teeny-goth. Didnt think it was americanised lol. I tend to dress that way too, but only becuase msot of the time i either cant afford all the fancy goth clothes Id love to own or I just cant be arsed to dress up. Most of the time Im seen in black jeans, black band t's, black sneakers, dog collar and long stripey or net arm warmers. But thats only when i dont dress up ;-)

I find myself new to the gothic scene. I trust that some will be more understanding than others will be, I live in nowhere, in Kansas, which, you might find has very little to no gothic or even punk dress in the area. It sucks. I only know one gothic person and she isn't really gothic, she only wears fake corsets and ripped bondage pants with too much heavy makeup and badly dyed hair. I wish to know more about this and if anyone could give me a heads up and some more info on this I would be much obliged....

No, no, and no! XD Who told you that? The hand-made ones are done by the people who can't get ahold of any real brands or can't afford it. Sadly, I fall in both those boats, because It's extremely hard to find even a cool shirt for under $100! :o

Also just curious for any Mana fan, does anyone has acutal proof he is a guy, like picture of him w/out makeup or a birth certificate copy? My friends and I have been curious of this for quite some time, either way Mana still rox!

rotfl! Mana's a man; I've heard him speak. ;) If you listen to Moi dix Mois, listen to the outro track of Beyond the Gate. I'm 100% sure that's Mana. :D

Disagree! XD I own both brand, store-bought, tailored and homemade items.

Some things are worth getting the expensive brand ones, other things aren't. For example - petticoats. That bit isn't really seen, if you have the skills to sew one, why not, and save about $40?

There is also the chance to make something that is absolutely perfect for you, customised - and I wouldn't DARE add my own touches to a brand item XD I have an uncle who is a dressmaker, and he's helping me come up with original designs *love*

So yeah - lots of lolis I know don't shun hand-made items completely, and in fact, opt for it in several circumstances ^_^

EDIT: - of course, as a generalisation, most lolis would prefer all the brand items in the world!!! XD But I think hand made dresses, particularly those with skill and professionalism, should be applauded and not looked down upon

^^ I like cute girls in Gothic Lolita, and I'm not afraid to admit it. Not sure why, there's just something about frills that I like. *Laughs* It isn't for everybody, not by a long shot, but if a girl can make it work and it fits their personality, they should go for it.

it's not that hard just go to your local Wal*Mart or fabric store and open up one of the pattern books and look at the gloves or 'arm warmers' and then just add your own funk to them :D

There aren't any gothic lolita stores in America, are there?

In last month's Shojo Beat, they had a page advertising Gothic Lolita, I think you can order it(Wasn't my magazine).

There are no lolita stores period. You can order from certain Japanese brands like Metamorphose and Baby The Stars Shine Brite though, and the store Closet Child (which sells used clothes).

There are lolita stores all over the world! ^_^ They are just rare, and hard to find! There are shops which stock Japanese brand items, and sellers who create their own designs. Here are a couple of links which may be helpful in finding a store close to you, or finding some places to order online from:

I'm picking up the material for my first Wa-loli dress tonight :) I love the style and can't wait to get started on it heh.

I love the style, and I want to have an EGL wardrobe someday. Unfortunately, the closest sewing machine that I can access is in CHina, and if you're in Canada, that's pretty far. So I handstitch small things-headbands, necklace-collar things, so on and so forth. I'll do the 'Walmart--flip-open-pattern-book' thing someday, it sounds like a good idea. I'm getting a g-lol(as I like to call it) outfit done in China for the AN Halloween party this summer.

Goth-loli is so pretty, but I'm absolutely terrible at sewing by hand, I have no patience. I've got a sewing machine, but I don't know how it works and neither does my mum. Oh well.

Someday I might make a goth-loli outfit, but for now I'm a bit too lazy for that. I'll just stare at other people's pretty clothes.

Another place that might help with make-up and clothing and such is

I'm sure it's not that hard to figure out what the real word is here.

A friend of mine owns it. He's more than happy to lend a helping hand most of the time ^^

I love Goth-loli! But I lean more towards japanese street fashion and a bit of Visual-kei and oshare kei mixed in. I find it a very satisfying style =^-^= I usually buy and alter clothes from thrift stores, but most of the time i create skirts and tops on my own ^^ (i have a hard time with shorts though >.< ) But i cant resist the urge of shopping at 'Hellcat punks' and 'SexPot' *-* my two favorite brands!

Doesn't your sewing machine come with an instruction manual? If you could take the time to figure it out, you'll find that it's worth the slight trouble threading the machine/sticking the bobbin in/etc. Working the sewing machine isn't the hard part; it's the measuring, cutting, and trying to get the right patterns in general that makes me throw a fit.

We lost the manual to my machine long ago... but considering it's been passed down through 3 or 4 generations I can see why. It still works great^^ I just have to make sure not to use it too much at one time or it'll get really hot and I'll burn myself on accident again, since it's mostly metal...

I have a wa-lolita, 2 sweet lolita dresses, an egl, an ega and a punk lolita. Oh and my Dinah (bizenghast) dress is also egl, but that's technically cosplay.
