I love all of Myazaki's movies as well (= especially Spirited Away .. but that's the only one I've seen in English, the others were either Japanese or Chinese. Mononoke Hime is good too =D

I'm going to be a sheep and go with Spirited Away. I know everyone loves it, and nominating it's nothing new, but it's just. so. amazing. :D

Non-Ghibli, though, I'd say one I really enjoyed was the xxxHOLiC movie - wonderfully fun.

Howl's Moving Castle.
Hayao Miyazaki makes wonderful films - Whisper of the Heart is also a good one. :3

I would say Ghost In The Shell. I think that was when my life suddently became one step closer to paranoia. I watched it constantly until every little detail was analysed and understood.
Hoshi no Koe also had a good feeling to it, although I think the storyline could have been more explored, maybe a 3 to 6 OVA would do the trick, still a pretty good movie overall.

Post Scriptum: (I still didin't catch xxxHOLiC and the TC movie, I will probably be coming back to this topic soon enough)

Right now, fresh off the press would be the Nana live-action adaptation. I know its not technically an anime movie, but it was just SO GOOD. *Shameless adverstising ahead* If you're curious about how it goes or what some people look like, i wrote about it and took screenshots here: http://trinityblood.net/animagik9/konosono/?p=294

Well enough people mentioned Miyazaki's and Takahata's (don't forget about him too!) wonderful works so aside from that...

I'd have to say every single Detective Conan movie has been superb.
Lupin III movies are also wonderful (and Miyazaki directed one of them...). I love the movies for those two series.

Grave of the Fireflies. It's probably not what you are expecting but it's still damn good. Other than that the Cowboy Bebop movie. As for はやお・みやざき I like Castle in the Sky and Nausicaa. I'm wondering why I don''t just type these entire things in Japanese.

Yu Yu Hakusho is my personal favourite, and the movie got shredded into pieces. The voices changed, and even some of the names got changed!!! I was disapointed. And the 3 Inu movie rocks.
