akira, well it's prob. the most well known anime film in the western world - based in neo-tokyo, futuristic film - more specific detail on http://www.themanime.org/viewreview.php?id=24 - some consider the film to be overrated or overly complicated, but nevertheless it is considered to be one of the main films to put anime on the map along with films such as ghost in the shell

I've never seen the movie, but I read most of the manga and thought that it was pretty good though the art wasn't really my style.

Your english is pretty good for out-of-country, I'm impressed. Back on topic, Akira is supposed to be really good, but i haven't read it, it doesn't appeal to me.

I love Akira, it was confusing the first time through, but the second time over most of the pieces clicked, and I got it. i recomend it if you don't mind thinking about your Anime.

The movie is great, I havent read the manga. Well Katsuhiro Otomo is a fan of Tezuka's work you need to write that down, Im not sure but I think he used to work in Tezuka productions when Tezuka was still alive.

Well, to me it really depends on what you like.
I for one thought it was pretty good. Not amazing but good.
Meh. I haven't seen it in a while so I should see it again and then I will review it.

The manga is definitely better than the movie. I don't think I would have been able to follow the movie very well had I not read the manga. The animation is pretty true to the manga, it's nicely done. I liked the movie, but then I also liked the manga, and I like that "OMG!! Look what we have done to the world with our giant freaking weapon we just built and thought we could use for the good of all kind (our kind that is)!" kind of movie. ;)
One of the greatest manga's and anime's ever, especially for when it was first released. The manga is by-far better than the anime but that is because they manga spanned over a long length of time where the movie was only around 100 mins (I think?) long. Katsuhiro Otomo is a genius. He doesn't release much but whenever he does it is always very good and on a deeper level than most other manga's/anime's. His writings work on many different levels which is the sign of a truly great writer, whether or not someone can bring this out of his writings when reading is another matter. I would describe his writings/anime as looking in to a mirror, you will only ever get out what you put in. If you are willing to open your mind to the world he brings to you, you will instantly fall in love with his work. If not, then there will not be much there than what you can see and what is exactly written and that isnt really how is work should be watched or read.

I want to say there were 6 volumes if you get the trade paperbacks.

That's definately true, it was one of the first action animes that I saw and I agree it is the best movie I ever saw. However since I was eating while watching the movie I almost lost my appertite.;)

Akira is easily my most fav movie/manga ever! It was Katsuhiro's stunning anime masterpiece that brought me into the world of manga and anime, and I'm greatly respectful. I now own the anime, the first 3 vols of the manga, and a poster. ;)
