We may not all remember the first things we did, like take our first steps, or utter our first words. However, things that are most important to us, we may be able to remember the best. So, what is the first anime you ever watched?

My first Anime would be robotech. At the time my older brother had the SDF-1 toy and we were amazed how different it was from other cartoons with the romance and actually death of main charcters. I only wish I still had the toys because the vf-1s is a thing of beauty.

Heh. It's a bit strange to me.

I didn't know what ANIME was back then when I was younger. At that time, I just categorized anime as just simple cartoon shows.

So the first one I saw was Dragonball Z.

Then came Inuyasha and Fullmetal Alchemist and (sadly) Yugioh and soon found out what Anime meant. Yosh!

Actually...My first anime show was a little known story called Unico. It was about a little unicorn who befriends this little girl and helps her search for her lost older bother. Of course at the time I was watching it, which was about the age of 4 or 5, I didn't realize it was anime ^^;

While knowing though, I guess it was either Sailor Moon, Sorcerer Hunters, or Mermaid Forest. I don't quite remember which was first, though scarily enough I'm leaning towards Mermaid Forest cause I think that was around 5th grade...Rumiko-san has a scary mind ^^;

I can't really be certain which was my first, but it was probably the anime movie: Winds of Change, an anime with several "short stories" about Greek myths.

The first anime that I knew was an anime was Project A-Ko on the Sci-Fi channel many, many years ago. :)

I got you all beat. I remember snippets of the original American Robotach release. 'Course, I was only like 6 years old at the time, so it's all kinda sketchy.

Then of course there was Voltron. Voltron was da snizzel back in the day. Never could figure out why there were two of them, though...

After that, it'd be another decade before my next brush with anime, in the form of the famed and fabled Ronin Warriors. I didn't even know it was called anime back then; all I knew was that it looked like my favs of yesteryear, and that was about enough to hook me. From there, I learned about the original Street Fighter II movie (the Renegade release, not that cheesy Van Damme flick!), discovered Sailor Moon on some funky Canadian channel (she comforted me when the Ronins got cancelled...:( ), and, well... I guess the rest is history. Took a bit of a hiatus while I was in college (shall we say, spiritual refocusing). Dunno what exactly got me goin' on it again... Perhaps just a lack of stuff to do. Anyway, I suppose that's me as an otaku...:p

I'm surprised how many other people this was the case for as well. but Sailor moon, but I really didn't know what it was at the time, but I knew I liked "that kind' of animation and style. Pokemon and more followed.

For me, it would probably have to be the original Digimon, unless pokemon is considered anime. some of the shows more geared for younger kids can get kind of confusing, distinction-wise

Sailor Moon is the first series I ever watched (and I haven't seen it in a long time, nor do my interests in anime lead me to ever watch it again). In general, my first anime at all was My Neighbour Totoro. Then, after that was Kiki's Delivery Service. I used to pretty much have the scripts to those two movies memorised when I was younger. :p :D

I was OBSESSED with Sailor Moon from the time I was five until 8th grade, when I actually went out looking for other anime. I'd known what it was, but I was afraid to get into it because so many people at my school were jumping on the bandwagon... But after I got into it for real I found out they only knew about the mainstream titles, so I felt better about it. ^_^ I'm weird, I know. And I can't stand people who think anime is all fanservice and fighting plushies.

Yes indeed, a non-subbed Totoro. I liked it so much that my father got ahold of a subbed copy on interlibrary loan and my mother read the subtitles to me, as I couldn't read yet. I was an odd child. Then it was off-and-on for quite a while until at one point I rediscovered it a few years ago via Haibane Renmei! (quite a long stretch...) ^_^;

As a child of the 80's just about everything that made it to broadcast TV I saw. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Transformers and Robotech, and I even seen to recall something that was on Showtime, or maybe HBO back then, but I have such vague memories of it that I don't recall what the show was....I just remember being up at 6 in the morning and sitting in front of the TV because you had to manually push the buttons on that cablebox back then in order to change channels, no remotes for you :)

A good question would be, what anime did you watch before you actually knew it was anime? I remember watching Transformers, Sailor Moon, Ronin Warriors as cartoons, not anime. Many people I know believe my first anime to be Sailor Moon. In a way, it is since that is what started my obsession. However, technically my first anime was Speed Racer and Robotech (though I consider Robotech not a real anime, but rather one that was patched together from editing 2 or 3 different mecha series together.) It is one of the rare early childhood memories that I will never forget. Sitting up late in the livingroom playing with my Light Bright on the floor right in front of the tv as I sing along to the closing credits of Speed Racer just before Robotech comes on the screen.

I can, to my shame, still remember the words to "Stage Fright".

I'm a big softy for romance (sorry girls, I'm married) and I think alot of it comes from watching the love triangle in Robotech.

i think my first anime was a mix really. Me and my brother would get up early in the morning just to watch Pokemon, Salior Moon, and Dragon Ball. now my anime collection is huge.

It was, by US standards, crude visually but had a strong and intelegent storyline, something that was vanishing (now totally gone) from US animation. The first anime I ever watched... Well I can definately say for a fact that It was not Sailor Moon, DragonballZ, or some other thing. It all started with 2 good old shows that most of us might not even consider an anime at all. G-Force (Now relicinsed by AD Vision and going under the original title of Gatchaman) and Speed Racer.

Those were the first 2 I had ever seen now the anime that got me really into the whole anime and manga craze had to have been both Tenchi Muyo! and Mobile Suit Gundam Wing.

Why not? Just because its aimed at a lower age group doesnt change the fact that its anime... every anime doesnt need to be ecchi or violent to be considered anime. And besides, Digimon, even though it lasted the shortest in fame, was still better than Pokemon, Beyblade, and the like.

I actually very vividly remember changeing flipping through channels at my grandmothers in the summer when I was much younger and stumbling upon Dragon Ball (Not that I knew what it was at the time).
I watched it for about a minute and then continued channel surfing. I remember thinking "Wow, that was really really weird". I think it was one of the first episodes, but I can't remember which now. It may have been the one where Yamcha first meets/beats-up on Goku.

I'm not really sure what the first anime title I saw was. I was in Japan and saw all sorts of stuff between 1989 and 1991. I remember noticing Lum-chan (Urusei Yatsura) and Yumi-chan (Dirty Pair) for obvious reasons. ^_^ However, the anime that crossed the language barrier and actually planted the seed that would sprout and take off in 2002 was Castle of Cagliostro. I saw that anime and even though I couldn't understand a word of it, I knew it was good stuff. :cool:
