I did have about 2000 dollars worth of manga and anime at last count tho.
It's not as bad as it sounds considering how long I've been collecting, but as it is mostly funded by me...well heh ^^;

What I think is more productive for me, however, is to ask you for your recommendations for English anime/manga. Seeing as how you're probably a definitive guru on the subject, which localized series do you think made it over to the US pretty well? As in, were the translations done well, few to no edits, etc.

I'm wouldn't say I'm a purist, but let's just say that localized anime has been driving me nuts lately.

I'm really picky too. If I don't feel 100% entertained by the story I generally drop it after the first volume.

I've only been reading manga since I moved to WA about 3-4 year ago but it has become a serious part of my life. Of course, my collection would be larger if alot of the books I've read hadn't come from the library. But the library has saved me hundreds of dollars.

Lol.. I'm accually more of a manga lover then anime.. since i'm a slight manga purist... i don't like alot of changes and liberty's that the anime does to the story and what not... I prefer right from the head/hand of the Creator..

I must have several hundred manwha and manga books. After a while though, I sell some that aren't my favorite. Simply because I have them stashed Everywhere! And am constantly running out of room.:/ But like I said, on average, I probably spend anywhere from $120 - $200. a month on the books. And while most are in English, some of mine are in Korean and some in Japanese.

Yes, my manga collection can beat yours, and I'm fairly certain most people's here. I know I've got well over 1000 manga, and am extremely certain I have over 2000. I'll take a picture one of these days and post it, along with a list of what is on the shelf.

How do I own this much? Simple:
My mother worked part time for Borders (33% discount anyone?) and I share the cost with my older sister who still lives at home. It averaged out to about $3 a book for me. We've been collecting for years now, so it's not like we did all of it within months or a year.

The bad part about having this much? Occasionally you buy doubles, and sometimes finding where the series and volume you want can be an issue. (I ran out of shelving space long ago.)

Well i'm born english XD... and canadians are taught french in schools since grade school, so i picked up enough to understand whats going on most of teh time... and just from buying japanese books and reading them, I've taught myself ... i'm still not very good.. but i can get the basic sentences...

i wish i could pick up on Japanese, and i took some French but i got bad grades in that class. i was going to take Japanese in my school, so i could buy some Japanese books, but sadly budget cuts killed the class, same with French, all we have is Spanish and i tend not to read Manga in Spanish (being sarcastic, dont like Spanish). on top of that i live in WI in the US so we weren't required French nor Japanese but Spanish.
totally sorry got off the subject i am thinking in adding to my collection of 54 tonight, all i need to do is get my dad out of bed and in the drivers seat of the car.

Ok I am going to give you a list of what I have, for some reason I cannot upload a pitcher of my collection.

1. Tsubasa 1-3 so far it is the 1st Manga that I have liked by CLAMP, I am going to get the rest just not at once.
2. D.N.Angel 1-10 I just love this one, the characters are so cool, can’t wait for #11 to come out.
3. Fruits Basket 1-12 the first Manga was the first one I ever have read, looking forward for #13, oh ya I have the 06 calendar and a 3D poster with this.
4. Gravitation 1-12 and the novel I love this one just because it is funny, I hear there is like a season 2 coming out, I am not sere.
5. Aquarian Age Juvenile Orion 1-5 I have all and enjoyed this series to the fullest, and I have the 06 desk calendar.
6. Diabolo 1-3 this is a sad series it made me cry at places, I highly recommend.
7. R2 1 all I want to know is when the rest of the series is coming out.
8. InuYasha 1 I never got interested into the Manga version, I like the anime more, sorry.
9. Off*Beat 1 has an American art style then again it is done in America, I think, I like this one, it is #4 or #5 on my fav. list.
10. Gundam Seed 1-4 I have been hesitation on buying the 5th one, it is too much like the anime, I bought it with out looking at the cover that said “AS SEEN ON TV” my stupidity.
11. Our Kingdom 1 waiting for the second one, I like the story, it to me is intrusting. Oh ya this is Yaoi and I am a guy that reads it, I just like it that is it, ok.
12. Desire 1 this story is a love story and I like some love stories. And yes this is Yaoi too.

I have all the over looked titles. I have all the short series, so my collection isn't that big. I hate well-known series with a passion. I think my longest series is about 11 books? It's still going though so we'll see. Anywho, for starting out this year with a major Manga obsession, I'd say 96 isn't too bad.

I'm very picky about my translated manga. I have some untranslated there but very few. This isn't all (because I'm at college), mainly this is what I've amassed in a year and a half away from home. Also, the bottom two rows are stacked double. There is another row hidden behind the first.

I need to catch up, I'm falling behind with so many series (Rurouni Kenshin, Bleach), and I'm giving up a few I'm losing general interest in collecting (Chrono Crusade, Naruto). I may donate them to the libary or something just to get rid of them so I can make a bit of room for series that I am far more spent on completing. One of my nasty habits is buying up manga just for the artwork alone so I have more and more refrence material for drawings.

I've actually been collecting for a little over a year since February of 05 (sorry if my wording was misleading). As for money, most of that would be my parents. I've been a book whore all my life, so biweekly trips to the book store are nothing new. When I started getting interested in manga, they were just excited that I was reading something that caused me to become more interested in my Japanese heritage (I'm half). Plus, my dad collected American comics when he was my age (and still does to some degree), so he understands the madness, and also gets some really good deals from Viz and Tokyopop. ^^

The library around here doesn't carry much manga. Just Marmalade Boy and Chobits. I've read both already, so I can't rely on the library anymore...

I can't read Japanese but I did memorise katakana and most of hiragana, so I can read phonetically only. If its a word like 'purinsesu' (princess) I can usually figure it out. I've had fun reading labels in supermarkets, trying to decipher things. :D

Wow. You beat me. I have exactly 260 English-translated volumes. So it's not including my 3 freebie ones (samplers), my various artbooks, my huge stack of magazines, and the stuff in Japanese (the Wolf's rain artbook and vol. 1 of the manga). I only have a small stack of DVDs (under 20) because I'm not a big TV person.
