Hey, i know people who enter the RSOM have skill, but (no offense) ur manga SUKS... not everyone, just some of u...

SKILL: I Luv Halloween has skill but...seems too much like a copy of "Johnny The Homicidal Maniac" and "Invader Zim", especially the pig...i hope im not the only one that noticed...(no offense to artist but the pig gave it away..)

Atomic King Diadogan is good, MBQ is good, then the Chibi Monsters manga(didnt win during poll) is good art(attractive)

Others have art skill but not the right idea...

EX: Doors-good art and drawings but the idea wasnt as attractive, not something fun and enjoyable to read.

HELP
U need something inovative, different, attractive art, eye catching, exciting,

EX:
Sgt Frog-great example-funny, inovative, exciting, atractive art, action
Samurai Deeper Kyo-great art-some comedy, ACTION, good storyline

MOODY SAD STORYLINE ISNT A GOOD IDEA---people wanna have fun when reading or excited...

The GREATEST example i can give for the perfect manga is... ( I know it doesnt seem that great but re-read it, it is. It has great art, attractive, funny, action, and keeps readers reading. If u think its not great then ur a noob at becoming a manga-ka...lol...NOT JOKING)

... the manga is......

DRAGON BALL

stop what ur thinking cuz im right...

Thank you so much for sharing your considered opinion. I'm sure it will not surprise you, though, to find that some of us have slightly different opinions about what makes a good manga. (To just pick one example from your post, I quite liked "Doors," despite its not being a happy story. I like sad stories, when they're done well.)

I, for one, am happy that we see such a variety of stories in RSoM and Tokyopop's OEL line, even though not all of them are to my personal taste.

Wow... I know we all have opinions, and differing ones at that, but what makes you think that yours are right above all else's?

For one thing, I Luv Halloween is a stand-alone series, not an RSoM entry. Second, just because it has the same dark/choppy/edgy feel to the art, doesn't mean the artist was trying to rip off Jhonen Vasquez. I don't really see how the existance of the pig some sort of hint to this, especially considering that the pig isn't really a pig but a person with a pig mask on his head.

Also, being solemn and tragic doesn't exclude something from being great. A story doesn't have to have action to be exciting and it doesn't have to be fun to be enjoyable. I know a good drama gets my heart pumping faster than any violent bloodfest. The same may not be true for you, just how it's not true for me that "sad stories aren't a good idea."

And DragonBall?! Honestly, it may be yours and many others' favorite, but it's hardly the perfect manga on any sort of technical level. A lot of the story seems too contrived, most of the characters are pretty one-dimensional and the art style isn't anything really aesthetically pleasing.

Dude! That's totally what I was gonna say! XD

I mean... that post has to be a joke right? It's too ridonculous to be real...

EDIT: OMG... this line totally made me LOLZ

The Perfect Manga Is Dragon Ball Z! Stop Thinking Because I Am Right! Go Out And Copy Dragon Ball Z And Submit It To Rsom!

P.S. - I Luv Halloween and it's creators never participated in an RSOM contest.

P.P.S - Neither Kuroro Gunso nor Samurai Deeper Kyo are innovative manga. They're mearly popular comics from their respective genres.

I mirror Klawzie and beanclam--and add my own two cents. You've GOT to be kidding me. I Luv Halloween isn't one of my favorite manga, either, but it has its high points and low points just like any other manga--Japanese originating or not.

Doors was my top pick for that particular RSOM volume. The pacing was a lil off, sure, but the story and the characters were beautiful, and the details were so awesome I've gone back to re-read it again and again.

Dragonball actually became my least favorite manga of all after I got into manga. Why? I love Goku, I love Bulma, I love all the characters from DBZ, but you know what threw me off? How completely and utterly ridiculous it became shortly after the series began. And I wouldn't touch Toriyama's style with a ten-foot beanstalk. I abhor it.

And Atomic King Diadogon was one of my least-favorite manga entries ever. (No offense to the creator!!) Why? Because I disliked the style, I disliked the panel layout, and it was difficult to follow. I didn't like the main character, and it seemed rather two-dimensional.

If you're going to knock other people's manga, first figure out why your OWN manga is bad. And if you can't draw, then figure out how to make a better critique rather than just sit there and try and mind-control everyone else into thinking you're right about everything.

O.o
Not that I don't have all DB volumes(apart from the one that my friend borrowed an still haven't returned...:| )... but..perfect manga? *ROFL*

You remind me:
"I don't like it because I haven't read Naruto and I don't know what it's about" - my friend(?) about my 2 page Naruto doujin...

stop what ur thinking cuz im right...
I'm thinking about hot, wet bisexual sex, what does this have to do with you?

I REALLY hope this was a cynical joke... really...

In I Love Halloween the character is a person in a costume and in Jhonen Vasquez's art its a person in a costume also...

I also understand ur opinion on the ACTION and COMEDY part, i like drama...but when the story is mainly about drama...it dont seem that good
(PS: Im not a big fan of all action manga-actually dont like all action-not some immature reader that just wants action, --- the story is everything...)

Everything u say about Dragon Ball is true, at first glance and second glance, even the next 300 glances it doesnt look good(technically), it looks too simple, but eventually, if u read it... it hits you thats its PERFECT.

PS: I never said I love Halloween entered the RSOM, I was just giving imput on it...Ohh and id like to take a guess-Dragon Ball was one of the first mangas u read right...?

Im not knocking on there work... thats why I said NO OFFENSE... Its input thats not exactlly my opinion---the input is based on other popular mangas, sales, best targets, and even on telling you about manga that noobs would enjoy...

I didnt really wanna mention ShonenJump manga in a Tokyopop forum...otherwise i would have mentioned Naruto(GREAT) , One Piece(GREAT)

AND TO SET EVERYTHING STRAIGHT-------Dragon Ball ISNT my favorite manga!!! Its actually down there...but its just got all the great qualities.

Some Favorites:(not in order)
Naruto
One piece
Love Hina
Bleach
King of Hell
Ai Yori Aoshi
MBQ

Ben Roman gets compared to Jhonen Vasquez all the time. Even I, at one point, was poised to bash him for being so Vasquez-ish. But -- y'know the difference between the two? Roman's actually a very clean artist. His lines are amazing and he understands what he's drawing. Vasquez just seems to randomly scribble out his comics on sheets of toilet paper. Roman's work is so much more polished and FUN to read because... well... you actually CAN read it. His stuff's clear -- you look at it and you know what you're looking at. The books he works on aren't just random compilations of comics that have little to no relation to eachother. They have a story (however crazy and asinine it may be). In any case, he’s not the writer, so the story isn’t even really so much a concern of his. Regardless… Roman trumps Vasquez in the art world any day.

Okay...this thread is pretty much incomprehensible and a personal attack.

If anyone really thinks this thread deserves to continue and serve a useful purpose, let me know. Until then...
