View Full Version : Mistakes in RSoM

From what I can tell, Rising Stars of Manga is really good about not having any mistakes in it, however I have noticed one that really bugged me.
In volume 5's "Mail Order Ninja," the nerd kid who's presenting his show-and-tell project (I think that it's on page 7) has Fool's Gold with him. However, he calls it "Bauxite" instead of "Pyrite"--of which there is a difference between the two.
Has anybody else noticed any mistakes in it?

Remember that any mistakes in the RSOM contest come from the artists/writers of that particular story alone. I'm not sure what TokyoPop's stance is on editing RSOM entries, but I'm willing to bet they let the work (and its mistakes) stand on its own.
It's also possible that the artist/writer for "Mail Order Ninja" meant for it to be a mistake - on the part of the character. I haven't read RSOM5 yet, so I couldn't float that hypothesis with much confidence, but read it over with the idea that the character is mistaken and see if it fits!

The only thing I've ever picked up on were inconsistent character designs and typos. I only have the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th books though, so I can't really say about that mistake in Mail Order Ninja.

To Klawzie, I do realize all of those things. I know that it's not the Tokyopop staff that made those mistakes, and I wasn't claiming that they did. I know entirely that it's the individual artists/writers that made them.
And, thank you very much, I have read the Mail Order Ninja entry with the consideration that the mistake was made on purpose--but, it just doesn't fit or make sense if it was purposeful. (So you know, Tokyopop currently has Mail Order Ninja up to read online on their website.) Go read it for youself and see what you think.

Yeah, that's totally my bad. I accept full responsibility for all the children who will be forever turned off of geology because of my foolish error.

Seriously though, I hate to say that this is sort of nitpicky. I never see anyone cry foul at the many continuity gaff's in manga from Japan, especially when Japanese mangaka try to write stories with Western locations. FAKE is ripe with over a dozen or so serious issues like this, but it really is picking nits to go through and list every one. Did this particular issue stop you from enjoying the story overall? I guess that would be the real question.

Well, I haven't noticed a whole bunch of errors in RSoM, though there have been a couple. I think the more specific a story is, the more likely an error is to show up.

Amen sistah. I totally agree with that.
I'd like to add something but you've summed up everything I wanted to say and I really have nothing that could add to your statement.

Oh no! But I still LOVE geology! :D
Actually, being the absent-minded person that I am, I didn't notice the mistake.

*sigh* I realize that this is a really stupid topic, and I would have deleted this thing long ago if I could...but I don't think that it's within my power to do so. T_T (I tend to post really stupid things--nyum, Sorry!)
