I'm from the UK, and the UK RSoM volume isn't out here till the 30th, but I've heard that you already have it on the shelves in the US? I was just interested to know if anyone had seen or picked it up :)

That's a bit unfair, considering it's the UK/EIRE vol, and not the AMERICA vol.
Otherwise, I too will have to wait for it.

Is it printed in the US first or something?
That's odd, I swear Tokyopop launced officially in England last year.

If you're from america, I think it's out already, but for english peoples like me it'll be sometime in the first week of may. Online (amazon etc) it's the 30th of april :)

It is definitely out in America - I saw it on the shelf at Borders today.
If it's still there when we get paid next week, I'll pick it up and let you know who it turned out. ;)

You can read the first two chapters of it on manga online, you may be able to get it from forbidden planet (london, cardiff and birmingham etc. they tend to go by the american release dates and you can get 3 mangas for £15) and they had a big article of it in neo magasine whick has a site which i think has a feature on it.

How does the RSOM work? Whats the difference between that and just doing a plain old submission? I'd read the TP website, but I like to hear people opinions on it.

RSOM is... a contest. And a regular submission is a pitch?
For RSOM, you win a prize for turning in an entry that meets the deadline, guidelines, and is also good material on top of that. As well as earn a sort of "Go directly to the Editor's Desk, if you pass Go, collect $." pass. To put it in Monopoly terms. :3
A pitch goes to the office and probably sits around for at least a little while before anyone looks at it. From there, your chances are about the same as a RSOM finalist. Except the finalists already know the TP people like their work some. :3

Just to back up my London Expo thread - The first RSOM UK book will be available at the Londond expo in May. This will be its official launch, with reps from Tokyopop themselves in attendance - plus several of the winners themselves!
They will also be launching the second UK competition! Woot.

But can you draw & ink 15-20 pages of original work, scan it in, slap lettering & tone on it in under two weeks, without getting a serious case of tendonitis?!?

Felipe Smith did it.

I did the art for Trickster - 25 pages - over sixteen days, one of which I actually didn't work on because I had to drive for 12 hours. My hands hurt, and I didn't get much sleep the last night before the deadline, but no tendonitis. (Mind you, I wouldn't want to keep up that pace on a regular basis. I was a zombie for the next few days after I mailed it in...)
A lot of the winning RSoM stories have been done in very short timeframes. Keeping from developing hand problems when you are drawing a lot requires pacing yourself and knowing when to take a break, but it isn't impossible.

Felipe Smith did it.
hehe - I have to admit that I created my RSOM piece in just over a week!! ;^_^
Mind you, I did have get a bout of tendonitis shortly after. lol. It was worth it in the end though!:D
Why would you need to create a piece in two weeks though? (don't do as I did!!! heheh)
The competition doesn't end until several months after it starts - plenty of time.

Ah I see. ^_^
These events are launching both the release of the first rsom book and the start of the next competition, hehe. So fear not, no tendonitits needed! ^_~
Hope you can come along to one of them!

Everything starts at 11:00 - with The Manga Phenoemon at the Park suite on Saturday, but there's not much else until 2:00 on Sunday with RISING STARS. What's there to do for the intervening 27 Hours?!?
Yes, even before I typed it, I knew that it was a very silly question...

Dunno what's happening inbetween events. Maybe tokyopop'll have a table, in which case me and any other winners (emsie, you're going right? :) ) will probably be around to talk to and stuff ^_^

the only problem I foresee, and I've known about this for about a month now, is that the hotel is fully booked, so unless there's someplace I can get a limitless supply of coffee...
But then there's the problem that I can't stand Coffee...
I could always find Liam Sharp (after he's finished in the Park Room) & ask him why, in a televised interview back in 1992, he said that it was okay to copy...
But of course, that would be silly...

There are plenty of hotels in Bristol :) Not even the official one is right next to the convention, so you're not really missing out on much. You can still go to the events in the hotel too.

Yeah, the problem came about because I'm just too lazy to book in advance...
right now I've got to check on Train Timetables & pricing.
And because it's a Saturday, that means changing at Reading.
