View Full Version : Your Fashion: Where you get it.

Of course, we all pull our fashion from many sources, but the question is: What's the main inspiration for your own personal fashion sense?

Do you pull them from fashion/teen magazines?
How about taking your inspiration from your favorite movies and TV shows?
Maybe you love taking an idea from an anime/manga and turning it into an street-wearable outfit? (NOT cosplay, to be clear)
Maybe another, obscurer source (and if so, what?).

The list is endless, because people are so different.

So where do you get yours?

I am my own fashion. I just wear whatever the heck I want, although much of what I wear nowadays(thanks to work) is black. Thankfully, my mom graduated from FIDM and has some sense to impart to me. :D

I like black which is complained about (my parents want me to wear bright colors). I like to wear dresses and skirts, but I can't wear alot of that because of work and horticulture at school, so I have to wear pants all the time basically.

I buy what I like and just match things that look good together.

My whole family says that I don't have a fashion sense.

Whatever I think goes good together.
If I want to get an anime estique outfit then I go for it!
That's one the things that actually drew me into anime/manga more was the clothing styles that are so awesome that you normally don't see around where I live.

i pretty much take what i like from anything. for instance: right now I have on black finger nail ploish, cargo-ish pants (light green) and a t-shirt. of course it is saturday, so this isn't really a style day.

mostly I just find something that looks cool to me a go with it.

OK i am like my own person, and if i like it i buy it. that is my style, my own. but it has to be at a federated store tho, like Macy's, Marshal Fields, and Saks 5th Ave. (but on the sale rack).

I'm a slave to fashion. :( I don't really get my ideas from anything... Probably just the store itself. Most of what I buy is what is on the display just in colors I like. I own over 50 pairs of shoes and god knows how many purses... *sigh* It's pretty sad I know. But I own a lot of different stuff, sometimes I'm preppy, sometimes I'm punk, sometimes I'm japanese street trendy... what whatever I feel in the mood for really. But I would say that mainly I go after what I like.. that just happens to be what the store puts together as cute most of the time. :) So I picked other.

I get my fashion sense from inside -- it's sort of a conglomerate of everything I've ever seen, that I liked.

I usually get it by walking into different stores than finding what i like in each and throwing them together with all of my jewelery(seriously here i must have over 500 bits of assorted jewelery). I tend to go for plainer outfits (today a denim mini and a white tank and add bangles, rings, and scarfs.

My fashion sense is basically "That looks nice. I'll get it." It doesn't have to be of some particular style or whatever. I just like what I like so there.

For me, it's either punky, goth, aristo or lolita (but only gothic, kuro or classical, I can't handle shiro or ama). And my inspiration of those outfits are definitely influenced by the specialist fashion magazines.

Aside from those, whatever it is, I can't be seen wearing something totally normal! XD There has to be at least 1 thing quirky about my outfit. If it's a t-shirt and jeans, it has to have sanrio characters, or have a gothic print, and arm warmers, and balanced with checked trainers. I may wear a seemingly normal office outfit, but then wear thigh high pirate boots, or crazy socks.

I like wearing bright colors. And comfort over style but I still manage to look pretty good.
I collect Fruits and Zipper when I can get it so some ideas are from those mags.
I also change my wardrobe every 3-4 years when I visit Thailand or Hong Kong.

My style is the popular asian street fashion. Color, wristbands and bangles and layers.

Whatever happenes to peak my intrest at the time. It's usually what's on sale, but I'm inspired by the 70's: putting fabric in your jeans to make your own bell bottoms, and patching up holes that you've made in the jeans, not walking around in jeans that you bought torn up.

I even have a few clothes that get burried under my pile of junk and come out five years later and start a new trend without meaning to, cuz I'm just out for comfort

My fashion sense is mainly stupid, but my best friend's is derived from my drawings. And my drawings have no plan most of the time, ^^;; It's mostly me sitting down and drawing just whatever comes to mind. My best friend, who is really good at sewing, but not so much at unique clothes designing usually makes some of the clothes I have drawn on characters. One of my favorite designs she made for herself was what this guy here is wearing:

http://www.deviantart.com/view/30148903/

Only, she changed the shorts (its hard to tell they are shorts, but they are, you can tell in other pics that I don't have scanned...) into a skirt, and the shirt is a bit longer, though not much. She looks really good in it, but she has a really thin body like the guy in the pic, so I'd never try it myself! I wish I had a pic of her in this...maybe I'll take one sometime ^^;;

I'm a weirdo. I wear whatever I think looks cool. My favorite "style" includes loose cargo pants (preferrably camo) and a fitted shirt. Not TIGHT, fitted. There IS a difference. And a baseball cap worn backwards. I LOVE quirky things on my shirts a caps, though. XD I asked an airbrush artist at Akon to just make me a red cat in whatever style he wanted. It turned out JUST adorable and it's now my favorite. ^-^ Um...I love t-shirts. Any shirt. I like them baggy, too, sometimes, but I like fitting shirts because it's impossible for them to get caught on the whirly-thingie with the bags at work. XD

I get my style by looking at the manikins in clothing stores. If I like how it looks on them I usually buy it, though it never looks quite the same on me. :(

I dress all kinds of ways but mostly with tall tees, baggy pants, and a belt buckle.

as much as i love when people make their own clothes, i don't have the patience, nor do i have the skills..so i'm really uncreative with my clothes. mostly it's band ts, because it seems my life revolves around music for the most part. i wear a lot of black, mostly because it's easier, although i love bright colours too. i like polka dots and stripes (look horrible on me, teh evil stripes) and stars, so you can find some of that stuff on me too.
meh. i have to get less lazy and make an effort.

I get ideas from a lot of different places, and I go off and make my own clothes. I've lately been too poor to do that though as I'm saving up to make a kimono. I wear band t-shirts a lot, and anything with sparkles or stripes. I have a lot of baggy trousers, and I live in my big goggles.

I don't copy what others wear, I put my clothes on in the morning and get ready for the day I could really care less what others think about how I dress...

I wear what I like and/or can wear (I'm not thin, so I can't wear anything I like).
I'm up to current fashion only when it catches up with me... Rarely that is. Basically most my clother rotates aroung black, blues, denim, random color, bit of purple and silver (like in jewlery or chains).. I llike clothes in direction of rock style, but various enought to be described (from the outside) sometimes as metal, grunge, goth-metal or whatever. When needed I disguise myself as "normal people".
Alas, I'm small and so out-of-fahsin it's hard for me to find right clothes (but black t-shirt can always help ^^)

i wear whatever i feel like.
i don't get very "monkey see, monkey wear"

i dress mainly functional and easy going.
workboots, actual fitting jeans, t-shirts

for some reason i can be mistaken for a mechanic.

My style comes from myself. I don't like to wear what eveyone else wears. I don't like to shop at hollister or american eagle etc. because the shirts look alike. Just a t-shirt with some different design on it. Why not try a off the shoulder top or a fitted black blouse with trumpet sleeves? If it has a sarcastic/witty/funny remark i'd probably buy it though.

wow i'm the same way Azn_Manga_Luver ^^
i normally don't like to shop..i normally just throw on some random clothes and hope it looks good.
I sometimes design my own shirts..yea know make some really awesome design and slap it on a shirt.
These days though, i'm exploring into other kinds of clothing..IE more professional looking..
i guess

I decide my own style. I would wear a sweater with long sleeves that cover all the way to my fingers. Or Capri shorts along with them. I might seem a bit odd ... but my friends say that that is what makes me unique. ^^

i use my eyes. yea that sounds obvious, but i've been surprised before. there's my own sense of style of course, but what i look for in the stores is definitely influenced by something i've seen either on someone else on the street, anime/manga/video game/tv, or just plain looking around online. i'm by default some mixture of raver and industrial-rocker (i love baggy pants, i blame partying, and i love electronics toys and hardware ^_^), so a lot of the stuff i'm into isn't really easy to get in a store (at least not all in one place). that means i gotta look online at least for product info, which entails clicking other links to other things and finding new companies and...you get the idea. doesn't mean i don't buy anything else, because the almighty wallet speaks first, but that's mostly how i look around.

i am slowly learning to sew to make some anime and manga styles street-wearable though...

I search thrifts stores and get stuff on sale (being a poor student) also id never spend loads on clothes :D I love thrift stores coz you find stuff no-ones wearing :D I customise a lot. I love long flowy sleeves or half sleeves, mostly comfortable stuff.
I wear most things, i never stop and wonder if i look silly, i wear whatever i want, some people say i look very like an anime character with my kookieness:D

I just buy what I like, lots of shirts and things. Cheap stuff is always good- but of course, if I had enough money I'd love to buy a dress :} Well. I'd like to make one.

I'm a thrift store junkie. It's amazing what you can find in them. And its not like I couldn't shop at AE or A&F I just don't want to. Why should I pay 100$ just to get a pair of jeans that have premade holes and paint stains. That happens to mine naturally when I do anything crafty.
I've found high end designer clothes at thrift stores that originally go for 150-200$ a pop and they're for like 3 bucks or something because of tiny insignificant hole.
I wear what i find to look good on me and still give me a unique personality. I personalize my clothes too, not as much as I used to :( but work gets in the way of me wearing my normal everyday clothes.

I dont really get my style anywhere. most clothes i have i buy because i like it, not cos it is a certain fashion. I like to make my own t-shirt designs though, makes it a bit more unique!

I get stuck with stores, sadly I find barly anything original around here... Hot topic is great but expensive and a lot of people shop there. I don't really stick to one stlye though. Sometimes I get lucky and I can go to Totaly Killer Deals but that's all the way in pismo. I wish there as more cool one of a kind stores were I live.

Mmm. If any of you guys like Japanese clothes and live in the NYC area or clothes to it. There's a really famous store that just opened up in Soho. It's called Uniqlo. If you google them you can get their site and the address to the store in Soho. It's a Japanese clothing line and everything is from Japan. Mm. It can be a bit pricey though.

Well for Japan its cheap. Its like blouses tend to run around 30 - 40 for an example. But thats really cheap if you consider it with Japan.
