Hi there ;) There doesn't seem to be an introductions section on this forum so I'll have to do it here ^^;

My name is Kajika, I'm 20, live in Scotland and I draw manga (well, I like to think I do XD). I'm going to post up a couple of pages I've just done for a manga I'm making. It's a restart from a very old manga of mine, but I love the characters so I've decided to remake it.

Please read the pages right-to-left and let me know what you think of them! All feedback is much appreciated 'cause it lets me know where I'm going wrong ;_;

I'm looking forward to the next RSoM UK! I didn't get a chance to enter it last year but I'll have a crack at it this time round.

Wow! You've got some extremely smooth, clean artwork there. :)
I really like your style. The bottom panel on the first page is gorgeous. I love how you've made the butterflies and feathers solid white sillouettes. The handling of the guy's hair in the panel above it is beautiful as well.
My only crits would be about the panel that says "It hurts so much I could cry." I think that the top of his head is too small. The eye kinda bothers me a little too. In a profile view the eye wouldn't be shaped exactly that way and you probably wouldn't see that much of it. The iris and pupil are shaped fine but the white and outside part are a bit jarring. It looks a little those ancient Egyptians eyes.
Other than that I think you've got some really excellent artwork! (I love the butterfly motif too.)

Dig it! You've got more style/originalty than we usually see in doujinshi work around here. P.S. I write my manga in right to left format too. I do this because my dream is to do work good enough to be accepted in Japan. Don't let any haters tell you it's wrong or stupid.

OMG your good. You make mine look so crappy! :sob: It's so awesome! What pens do you use? I can't find a good pen that gives a variated line..

EDIT: Just read, 0.05 fineliner. Okies su. But how do u get the variations? Going over it over and over?

Kajika

I use staedtler (I'm sure that's spelt wrong, but I can't spell XD). To get the line variations just go over the same line over and over. You can of course use a thicker pen but I have less control over them :P If you make any mistakes, just edit 'em out in photoshop.

I never get how to use photoshop -_-" very slow w/ teach stuff.

The feathers and the butterflies are lovely in the 1st page. As for the second page, I think there’s a bit too white on the top of his hair where it says “I hate that feeling”, his chest is too short, and his back is drawn to high. It should be more leveled w/ the neck. That's all I have to say. If you think I’m wrong please say so. I’m learning myself XD

yo kajika!! (i already know you a little~ ^0^ )

i must sya i rlelay love the alyout of the comic!!! you;ve got this beautiful way of doing it, which i love, and it deifnatly makes me wanna read more...the layout is just...!!! it feels like a poem, if you know what i mean, you've done it an a beautiful unique sort of way~ i love the way the butterfly and the lamposts come out and blend with the other panels--the paneling itself is also awosme!! and the drawing style is elegant~ *sigh* all in all it's great! ^^

This looks great, and I pretty much agree with everyone who's commented so far.

However, there's a little too much tone. Overall, the pages feel too grey -- yknow? Next time, I'd suggest avoiding so many gradients or filling entire areas with grey tone.

I like your drawings a lot.

I would like if you posted up pages that had a bit more figure work in them.

Keep on cartooning, cartoonist.

Very neat work indeed. It's smooth, and it looks like you've got a good grasp on drawing. You might want to watch the tones though - they kind of make my eyes shift @_@.

I have to agree with everyone here. I saw this post a few days ago and I can't stop looking at it. Very very nice clean artwork. It looks quite professional. You shall go far if you can keep up that quality.

Yeah, looking back at it now there is a bit too much gradient in it, but the character is in a 'dreamy place' so it does look weird. When he's in the real world things will come down. Also, the first two (and the third, though I ain't posted that yet) are set at night. I've never drawn a night scene before so I probably went a little gun-ho with the tones XD

Thanks for the feedback ;)

wow, I never realized photoshop can make something look so professional. Then again you need the talent of being able to draw to make it look so great without the aid of Photoshop. I suck with technical stuff. Plus I don't have the control or patience that is needed. Animation alone is drivng me up the wall.

I would love to learn but for the moment I like working with just the hand.

Kawaii-neko163 -

Photoshop was even able to make my very very poor stick figure art seem cool. But you are right talent is still necessary.
