Read StarS, but i was always considering going back to check out the orginal stuff - is it good? I've heard about it, but i don't know anyone that's actually read it...

Well, I've read the entire manga series and I must say it's really brilliant. Much better than the anime IMO.

I enjoyed the manga much better than what i saw of the series...might give it a look in, ty.

I would recommend reading the first series, even if it's just for fun. It's really cute, even if the translation is a bit... questionable. Then again, I have the old, oddly-sized, $12 pocket Mixx versions, and before that I bought the one-chapter paper ones before that, so that could account for some of the mistakes. ;)

How long was the first series? I hope i can stil get hold of the books, i'm finding older prints hard to find these days....:(

Sailor Moon was my first manga and will forever have a special place in my heart. Try your local library, sometimes they carry the older series. Also I think this series is out of print, so if you see any volumes buy them.

SakuraRay

Aw...that makes me sad...hope it gets reprinted! And i'm lucky my library carries books, nevermind manga ones...I'll have to go drown my sorrows in one of my other books...

I think the first one was around seven volumes long. I'm probably wrong though, I borrowed them from a friend and It's been ages since I read them so my memory is a bit fuzzy.

I've dug up eleven volumes in a quick search of the original series, though i thougth there was twelve...all at ridiculous prices!!! I better start praying for that reprint, it seems!

Bishōjo Senshi Sērā Mūn is by far my favorite manga series. In fact, I have all of the Japanese manga volumes. The English-language manga books don't appeal to me, so I avoid them.

I love Sailormoon* and I wish it was still in print, but it isn't and apparently Kodansha are reluctant to allow it to be re-licenced. It's a shame as if it was I'm sure we'd get lovely new "special edition" versions using the new reprinted/touched up material from the more recent Japanese reprints with better more accurate translations and all original names kept (Sailor Moon being one of TokyoPop's first translations mean it isn't as polished as their newer translations). Oh well maybe one day.

(Just a note, I tend to refer to the series as Sailormoon (no space) and the character as Sailor Moon (space) just a personal preferance).

I used to be a huge fan back in the days they actually played it on tv. It was my first anime. It's pretty sad they stopped playing it. I still don't even know how it ended. :(

Sailor Moon 1-11
Sailor Moon SuperS 1-4
Sailor Moon Stars 1-3
For a grand total of 18 volumes

I wonder if it would be worth it to start a petition asking for it, since there are staff on the forums.

Okay The First sereis was, manga wise, 11 volumes which if put it into anime terms covers the first three seasons of the anime. Unfortunaly the manga is no longer being printed in the USA, Tokoypop was the seller, and they lost lisence to it. Just like it is now impossible to buy any Sailor Moon DVDs now due to the face that Pioneer/Geneon and ADV lost license. You cans still find it on Amazon.com, but esecially the DVDs you dont know if your getting a bootleg. Poor Sailor Moon, she died right here in america.

Sailor Moon was the first that ever got me into this anime & manga business! I was crazy about it! Yet, I decided to take a break from anime & manga like 3 years ago since it was so darn cheesy and too much winkings. BOY! Was I an idiot that missed out on so much. Before I knew it, the Fruits Basket anime got me all started again and I wanted to catch up on my Sailor Moon manga and buy more. HOWEVER, I was too late. =( I saw a news article on the same month that said Sailor Moon was out of print!! I was outraged! C'mon Sailor Moon is a manga and anime legend. However, I didn't like the fact that they changed the names and didn't keep the Japanese names. So if ever it is re-printed, I hope the preserve the originality into it and make the manga less sensitive to fall apart. (I'm extra sensitive with my Sailor Moon manga because unlike most mangas, once you stretched them out, it breaks!

Sailor Moon is a classic. I'll love it forever deep in my heart. ^_^ Takeuchi-sensei just knew how to tell a story so well, and knew how much magic a young girl yearns for. XD

I have all the manga in french, 18 Sailor Moon volumes, 3 Sailor V volumes, and I thought the translation was great. They kept the onomatope (sp?) in japanese and stuff. ^_^ Besides Usagi being Bunny, everyone kept their name. And they released it at a very fast pace back in the day! I would go every month to get a new volume! They're very used and torn now though... I'm gonna get the new japanese editions soon. ^..^ I've been wanting them ever since they came out, but people were selling them for so much on Ebay then!!

And yes, Toei let all the US licenses expire, so they could re-release everything themselves with their small branch in US. But I guess things aren't going as well as they thought. :/ No news as to when they re-release anything... ;_; I'm missing the SMR boxset... 'Cause it's my least fave season, but still would've liked a full collection... :/

The anime had its good points, but they were scattered through dozens and dozens of filler episodes. ><; Still loved it when I was a kid though. But GOD how could they butcher a wonderful story like the Sailor Moon manga and make it a monster-of-the-day?! *sigh*

Anyway, wonderful story with one of the largest fandom ever. It's still very popular on artsites, trust me! Sailor Moon is eternal. <3

*big hug* So true! ^^ I even started my own club on SheezyArt. But it got so big, wow! I left for a while and now I'm totally out of it. @.@ Sailor Moon fans are really devoted, even after all those years! The fandom takes a life of its own.

I own some of Takeuchi's other works in japanese, I can't wait 'till I can fully read them, haha! But I wish she would release other stuff... I guess she's too busy at home. :þ (A Sailor Moon and Yu Yu Hakusho crossover manga would be awesome! XD Haha)

They stopped showing the anime here after the R season but afriend had all the manga so I borrowed it from him. I thought the manga was brilliant but I really want to see the Super S season of the anime.

I read the whole manga series but was actually disappointed. I felt that, other than Usagi-chan and Chibi-usa-chan, none of the characters had real personalities. In the anime they're so well developed. Plus the fact that Hotaru-chan is so much sweeter and adorable in the anime and the Starlights are AWESOME!! Sailor Moon S and Stars are the best seasons! Helios is sooo cute but doesn't quite make up for SuperS deficiency.

Glad to see fellow fans!! (Isn't my Yaten clip cute?)

I love the Sailor Moon manga, I think it's the most beautiful I've ever seen. I have all 18 volumes, all of the art books, and I also have those huge comic size mangas. I LOVE the manga even more than the anime, and that's saying something because I fell in love with the anime the first time I saw it 10 years ago. I've spent a large part of my time over the last 6 years trying to share my love of Sailor Moon on my website. :) I hope someday Sailor Moon can be sold in the U.S. again, it's such a shame about the problems between Naoko & Kondasha.

Well said! I agree completely that the manga was a little dissapointing, but maybe thats because I have'nt read them all yet. Its so hard to find them anymore*sigh* Though sailor moon was the first anime I ever saw. it spawned from there....and now i'm an even bigger fan!^-^ I recently got the Stars sereis on Dvd for my b-day and absolutley fell in love!!! Iv'e waited sooo looong to see it and finally know how Sailor Moon comes to an end(*cries) though I wish It wouldn't, but it will never come to an end in my heart /end cornyness* But anyway the pegasus series used to be my favorite, but when I saw the Stars series, I loved It way more!! I kinda wish Seiya could be with Usagi^^; o well! I was never fond of Mamoru(don't kill me!) I think yaten was hot, but I didn't like his attitude^-^ O well! Now I have the first, second, pegasus, and stars all on complete box set yay! I'm still missing a few of the R episodes wich I only have a few of on vhs, thre're so hard to find though i've seen every episode, I still need them on dvd like a true SM FAN!!! Now then, Sailor Moon Is THE best that started it all for many otaku out there^-^ IT LIVES ON FOREVER!!!!!

Because we're not you maybe? You're welcome to your own opinion, and I don't mind that you don't like it as we all have diffrent tastes, but please extend we moonies the same honor. I'm not trying to get on your back or anything, I'm just saying everyone is diffrent, and that's a good thing, wouldn't the world be boring if we were all the same?

I've seen all of the anime except for the dubbed/edited season of SuperS. I've read the first 2 mangas and the third of supers. I've also seen the live action show and own it on bootlegged dvds, of coarse that's the only way you van get it if you dont want to spend billions of dolloars on it importing it from Japan.

Sailor Moon is the best; no one can deny her power. I've finally finished watching Stars and S. Next I'm going to watch SuperS and finally I'll go about watching the first two seasons.

The manga was really beautiful. The style is very distincitve; something abou the way she draws her jawlines...

I love both the Sailor Moon anime and manga, but I just resently started getting into the manga, so they've been hard to come by. But I have a question about the manga that is a little off topic: What is the difference between the Tokyopop and Chixx Comix versions or the normal kind and the Chixx Comix, I've been trying to figure it out but since I don't have any of the chixx i just dont know!

Sailor Moon was the second anime that I saw. I use to have mangas, but I lent them to someone and she never returned them. Otherwords, she stole them. GRRR. Now I can't find them any more. Tear. But I love the series. My favorite sailor is Saturn.

Tokyopop and Chixx Comix are one and the same. Sailormoon was one of the victims of the name-changing that went on for awhile. First they were put out under "Pocket Mixx," then "Chixx Comix" (still a part of Mixx, just given a different sub-name), then "Tokyopop." So, it was all done by the same company. (Two companies can't have the license to one series and be publishing it at the same time.)

I think its amazing Naoko Takeuchi-san never even went to art college. She has such a beautiful style. Its a great inspiration.'

I wish for a reprint as well; I'd like to read a better translation.

Also, what exactly happened? I heard rumors, but why can't they re-license the series or whatever?

frecklegirl
08-02-2006, 11:45 AM
Naoko Takeuchi has frozen the series for all licensors outside Japan. In other words, no one outside Japan has permission to publish it/reprint it unless she decides someday to un-freeze it.

Who can say why...
