Where does Tokyopop usually figure out what manga/novels/art books to bring over? I thought it would be cool if there was a sticky where people could suggest interesting graphic novels (along with who the Japanese/Korean/Other publisher is and a synopsis, etc.) and get other peoples' opinion, too.

The Acquisition Team does a lot of different things. We go to Japanese bookstores and get samples of what's hot. We read the catalogs of new books coming out for various companies in Japan. We get samples sent to us from licensors every so often. We do some research on the Internet. We listen to fans when they make suggestions. We get a copy of titles that arouse our interest, evaluate it, and vote. Then the Greenlight Team says yay or nay and if yay, an offer is made and negotiations begin.

There is a thread in the manga section about this:
Which Manga do you want licensed? (http://messageboard.tokyopop.com/forums/showthread.php?t=117)

Blu_moon, thank you for that concise and informative explanation of how y'all come up with titles to license. I really have wondered about that in the past. (No sarcasm intended even if this sounds slightly sarcastic.)
