View Full Version : Rejected from RSOM...?

I'm sure I'm not the only member of this forum who's submitted one or more entries to RSOM without being selected for the top slots. And rather than start another "show us your stuff!" thread here, I thought I'd be proactive and start up a community over on LJ for all the RSOM "refugees" out there on the interwebs.

http://community.livejournal.com/rsomrefugees/

Hope to see you folks there ^_-

Though while I'm posting anyway...how many of you ARE there here on the forums? Can we get some kind of roll call/exchange of sympathies going?

ETA: While I thought I was being funny, a few folks pointed out that some of the original wording in the community's user info page could be seen as much nastier than I meant it to be. I've gone back and edited it, however, so hopefully the good intentions of the project will shine through a little brighter :)

I'm an RSoM3 "refugee" XD Yeah, waaaay back there, no? I decided not to try again until I felt I was much more improved, and hopefully I am this time round ^__^ However, I'm really active (actually, MOST active) over on LJ, so I'll be sure to check that out! XD

My online friend has submitted his work since the first RSOM and STILL hasn't won yet. Probably because he is always mad and maybe hates me. Well, he unsubscribed from my deviantart and could care less about me.

Do they send u a letter of rejection? Or just ignore you?

As far as I know, if they reject you from RSOM they send you a, "Thanks for participating!" certificate.

haha, I draw a lot, but can never make it through twenty pages of story...6 pages into it i think to myself, 'wow, self, this other story in my head seems so much better,' so i end up changing it but never submitting. I do, however have a good story now that will hopefully evolve but I don't think I can wait until next January to see if I win or not...XD <-very impatient.

I've lost RSOM2, 3, 5, and 6. Got "thanks for participating" certificates for 2 and 3, but not for 5 or 6, which I thought was a bit odd. Got a form-letter email concerning the RSOM3 entry around the time RSOM4 had begun (or ended, one of the two), but haven't gotten any more of those, either. I'd have entered (and probably lost) RSOM4, but I suppose I was busy then.

I was a participant in 2,3,and4... haven't joined 5 or 6 cuz
5: was currently in a comic class when the entries were needed and I wasn't finished
6:too much work to do, no good ideas

dunno if I'm gonna join seven... don't get me wrong, I don't plan on giving up.. it's just I'm so busy I don't have time to think of another story let alone actually doing it oO;

I've entered since 3; furthest I got was top 20. That was a huge blow, not getting into the book. it always is.

top 20 oO; that's a huge accomplishment! considering how many ppl enter the contest. and at least it actually gets SEEN by others. >>; shouldn't you be proud of that?

RSOM is a contest for manga. You'd have to pair up with an artist or draw the manga yourself in order to enter the contest. However, TP does offer fiction submissions. There's a link on the main page of the forums, right beneath the link into this subforum, actually. There are many manga-ka who suck at writing (no offense meant!), so you'd probably easily find someone you'd be willing to work with on the art side of things. ^_^

Hun, it's begun already! Back in April. But don't despair, it's not due till...January 12, 2007. But no slackin'! Check out the rules and regs here: http://www.tokyopop.com/news/mangatalent/intro.php , and get your entry form and official rules and stuff together! And don't forget to follow the mech specs--you don't wanna be disqualified just for something silly! XP

I think you totally should. I'm same as you, entered since 2-3rd rsom and didnt get into 20th place till rsom5, but didnt get into the book, In rsom6 finally did, but I remember I almost felt like I won't make the deadline for rsom6, but I pushed my self and I'm glad I did. I was really impressed with your work and I did wish you did get in, I really enjoyed your entry. The only thing it got inthe way is the lettering, it was too small (you might've heard it bazillion times) but my entry in RSOM5 had the same problem, I couldent read my own comic online, it was ridiculous.
But I think your entry was really fun and appealing, it was my #1 entry
out of all. :D

I agree with Ryo K. atmosblue, I think you should either enter next rsom, or send in submission.

I entered since the 3rd-rsom, losing three times straight, and only get into the top 20 in rsom 5.

I've entered since 3; furthest I got was top 20. That was a huge blow, not getting into the book. it always is.

You don't need to win the contest to get your story publish by Tokyopop, you know ;)

I lost too. The closest I got was RSOM 4 top twenty- 'Happy Going Away Day'. I guess TP already had their lesbian sister drama (Rivkah's comic). Hasn't stoped me from publishing agaih though.

I've been entering since number three (I attempted an entry for #2, but wasn't finished in time) And as I look back, I realize how horrible of an artist I was way back then...but then, as I also look back, I realize that this contest has pushed me to become a better artist, and I'm happy about that (But I'm still rooting to make it into number 7! now to actually get down to writing the story >.< )

I entered the first time in RSOM 5, and got my @$$ handed to me, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. :p
Started on an entry for 6, but life got too hectic, and 23 hour days were too unappealing. So here's hoping I can get myself together for RSoM 7, and claim a victory with my ridiculously funny, doomed to be offensive, overly dramatic sports-manga entry. :D

Oi... I've lost three times... Makes me feel a little sad but then my envious side usually gets the best of me for the first month I know I've lost and then I resolve to get better... Standing a few months back from something I notice what a piece of excrement it is..

But at least I know I am getting better at this infernal thing that is comic creation...

My first entry ever was horrendous because I drew on 8" by 10" and then proportioned it disproportionately to the mechanical guide so my lousy anatomy skills looks ever worse than they were in my days of "OMG! I ISH MOVING TO JAPAN!"
Then my second entry was slightly less eye-burning... and has revived itself as one of my webcomics...
Then my third entry completely crashed near the end (there is no actual ending to the comic, it's more like "Okay, I am tired! The end!")
Though I skipped the last competition due to lack of drive...

Now this year... I don't know what I am doing, first I was like "Monsters in the Sewers of Victorian London!" then I was like "Loki crossdresses!" and now I am like "Vampires that count grains of rice!"

@_@ if I wasn't such a flake my life would be easier though it is hard to not be a flake so, eh...

I absolutely loved your story. I really enjoyed reading that one (obviously, since I still remember it).

0.0 Wow, a lot of top twentiests...considering the amount of people whp enter, top twenty is hardly a blow. I'd be psyched.
