Well, I'm planning on starting to work in Manga Studio, but having just spent $3,000 on car repairs, I don't seem to have that much money to spare. So I was thinking of starting with Debut & then upgrading to EX later on.

Has anyone here worked with both versions of the software? Are the interfaces for the two levels effectively the same? I am concerned that I will get comfortable with Debut, then upgrade to EX and have to go through the whole learning curve again just to do the basics (not just the new features).

Anything that can be done in both programs is done the same way, as far as I know.

How far do you know?

Or rather, have you worked with both programs?

You got me...they are both installed on my computer, but I have never used them. :) Barring anyone posting a contradiction in this thread though, no one I have ever heard from who has used both has ever mentioned otherwise.

EX has more features than Debut, is all, but the interfaces are identical. It's kinda like going from a four-cylinder base Mustang to a V8 Shelby model.

EX stores lines as vectors while Debut converts them to bitmaps when the pen is lifted, EX has more tones, EX has a 3-D module and can preserve Photoshop layers on import. The list goes on. The different between EX and Debut here (http://www.e-frontier.com/go/mangastudio/chart)

In EX you got extra feature like:
vetor layer
Raster to Vector features
Extra computertone (it's call powertone in japanese version)
-In extra computertone, you can set the tone to white ink color instead of only black. But the tone is not vetor base.
Word balloon templet (you can also make you're own templet and save it as vetor layer)
2D and 3D background import (can import as tone, lineart or both)
Tone brush...I think debut only get one. (you can make your own brush in EX)
shortcut editing
PSD file import, can be multi-layers at once..but I'm not recommand if you're computer is slow.
Some filters and rulers layers

If you're hand ink rather than digital ink, I think debut is enough to take care for the toning need.

We aren't comparing Debut and Ex. We're comparing ComicWorks and MangaStudio Ex.

Aren't we? Why compare Debut and Ex? You can read up on it. Works and Ex are the ones I've heard are similar.

If you'll read the first post, we are comparing Debut and EX because the poster wanted to know if she bought the 50 dollar version would it blow her mind to upgrade to the more expensive version. A lot of programs work very differently when you buy the cheap version and then upgrade to the one with more features. :)

So if we're comparing Manga Studio and ComicWorks, it'd be in another thread.
